Wow, very quiet! Do you find it has the same torque curve as an ISB or DT, or does it need to rev more for power?
@KodieS
@KodieS 6 жыл бұрын
It's nearly identical to that of the Cummins (Which is now just the B series). There are charts out there which show the torque curves side by side. The DT always seemed to rev higher, but some of that may be transmission programming.
@09ThomasEF
@09ThomasEF 6 жыл бұрын
I see. From what I remember (from 2008-2011 buses), scientifically-measured in how hard I got pushed back in the seat, it seems like a DT had more power at the low end (from takeoff) than a Cummins (more gradual). Maybe gearing or HP was different, though.
@KodieS
@KodieS 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, horsepower and gearing can make a huge difference. Most IC's in NY run 6.14 gearing, some as high as 6.50 so they have major torque on take off. It's common in states with flat terrain to have 5.97 gearing which is fine on level ground but horrible on hills.
@roundsm18
@roundsm18 5 жыл бұрын
The ISB was comparable to the MaxxForce 7, and was also offered by International as an engine option for repower. The Cummins ISB redlines at 3,000 RPM, irreparable engine damage results at 3,400 RPM. MaxxForce DT redlines at 3200 RPM, again or irreparable engine damage. A gas engine usually redlines at 4,500 RPM or higher depending on design. @@KodieS Beautiful bus Kodie, hope i get to drive one soon. Im sure it warms up much faster than the diesels in winter right?
@KodieS
@KodieS 5 жыл бұрын
@@jstkyoshi I would say yes to that, generally. Comparatively, a diesel that kicks itself into high idle will warm up just as quickly as a gas left at normal idle, based on my testing. If both are idling normally, the Gas/Propane will warm up a bit quicker.
@jstkyoshi
@jstkyoshi 5 жыл бұрын
@@KodieSOh alright, cool. Would you also say that the likelyhood of diesels (mostly older ones) taking longer to warm up in the winter is because of the viscosity of engine oil used? Perhaps a thinner oil in the winter would circulate better and allow for quicker warm ups? :o
@KodieS
@KodieS 5 жыл бұрын
@@jstkyoshi I don't think the viscosity plays a part, it's not that far different than that of a gasoline engine. The core functional differences between gasoline and diesel are the bigger factor. Gasoline engines as you know use spark ignition to fire, creating a high heat situation pretty quickly, whereas diesels rely on compression, creating high heat as well, but in a different way.
