Want to really confuse an OnStar call center assistant? Drive your Silverado a couple miles out onto Lake Winnebago, push the concierge button and ask for directions to the nearest Kwik Trip. Their reaction when you show up in the middle of a lake on their locator map is priceless.

I miss growing up in Wisconsin. Half the folks I talk to out here have no idea ice fishing is even a thing. Well, not just "a thing", but a way of life. Yeah, no.

Many years ago, I was transferred to the Detroit area but the family stayed behind till the house was sold, etc.. We would do just that, save up our worthless cans and every time I returned after a home visit I'd load up bags and bags of cans. I'd set in the local Meijer's stuffing cans into the machines and made a surprising amount of money! Eventually a co-worker explained that it was illegal and I didn't want to gamble becoming a bad man's boyfriend in a MI prison so I quit doing it.

This actually happened to me a couple years ago on Upper Red Lake in MN (same place where some of those news clips took place no doubt lol). I was fishing in my ice shack and suddenly realized I couldn't see my lure on my 'ducer screen because I was trolling on a floating ice sheet... Looked outside towards shore and was like uh-oh...

Yikes I can’t beleive this video I’m over here in Arizona and can’t imagine this scenario at all. Guess I would have to get over the fear of walking on ice over a lake And then get over staying in one of those ice tents over night This video was great though Had no idea they can break away Glad you made it back to shore Josh

@@anybodyoutthere3208 Most lakes totally freeze over so you won't have to worry about floating away. Lastly you can safely walk on 2-3 inches of ice, sometimes less. I know it's different for someone like me who grew up going out on the ice with uncle's and dad but there isn't anything to be afraid of.

Went to upper red once for 5 days with my dad and cousin when I was younger... I've never had better walleye ice fishing in my life. Absolutely crazy fishery.

Used to go up to upper red in the middle of may every year for opener. Never knew if you were going to go home with frostbite or sunburn. Usually frostbite.

I've never gone floating but when I went ice fishing in Saskatchewan (Canada) with my in-laws you could hear the ice cracking underneath the truck while we drove on the ice. Scared the heck out of me. That was nearly 20 years ago, I wouldn't want to try getting a truck out there now.
