One of the best salchow tutorials but a pity that the video file is corrupted in crucial points throughout the video.

@@IceCoachOnline 😭 I needed this video, but it's so choppy! It's like, I almost have to imagine how the hook and half turn on the ice and jump off from the toe pick and then land. 😔 And I love Jono! He explains things do well and in detail and it's also very clear when he demonstrates what he's talking about. Very thorough. But this video is not. 😔🤣 Hope a re-upload comes up soon!

We do apologise for this inconvenience. There was a technical issue with a few of our videos that has caused the issue that you see. We have tried to find the original files but have not yet managed to. As a result, we will be filming a tutorial on the Salchow jump again in the future. In the mean time we decided to leave this video up and answer any questions people have about it.

Not currently, but this is a great idea and something we will look at setting up in the future. In the meantime, feel free to email us your video at team@icecoachonline.com and we will upload it to our Facebook page so that you can get some feedback on your salchow.

Does any part of your right blade ever touch the ice after the 3 turn and before your left toe pick jumps off the ice?
@IceCoachOnline
@IceCoachOnline 2 жыл бұрын
It can if you are doing a two footed salchow entrance. If you watch high level skaters, I would say it's more common to see the two footed entrance vs the one foot entrance. I have a video on my website detailing the two foot salchow entrance if you are interested to learn more about it: icecoachonline.com/

Thank you very much for the video! Just one question, the right leg swings to generate rotation, on the moment, does the blade of right leg have contact to ice? Or it is actually in the air? Thank you very much.
@AwkwardBasilHealth
@AwkwardBasilHealth Жыл бұрын
According to my coach, it can touch, but it really shouldn’t. If it does touch, it should have no power in it.

It is traditionally done with the swinging leg not touching the ice, but it is acceptable to do it touching the ice, but that's an alternate technique so you need to look up instructions on how to do that. I'm pretty sure it's going to be way easier to learn if you allow the swinging leg to touch the ice.

What do you mean when you say yo use a "hook" like in a spin ? do you have to make a move with the hip or ankle like in a 3 turn ? do you have to give an impulse from the ankle to initiate the "hook"? how do you do the "hook"?
@IceCoachOnline
@IceCoachOnline 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, the hook refers to the shape that you leave on the ice with your edge (you should also draw a hook pattern on your spin entries). The hook is initiated by your bodyweight and knee bend, your ankle will naturally bend with the knee bend but you will use the ankle and your hips to initiate the jump once you have completed the hook. The curve should tighten up right at the end before take off as this will create a great base to begin rotation. Thanks for your question!

It's hard to say without seeing it, but your'e probably leaning to far forwards and grinding your toe heavily into the ice. If thats the case, you need to stay over your feet better!

Good video (except the fatal flaw of the video corruption). Lots of high points and stuff to like about this. I especially like the educational content about the importance of pre-rotating and jumping forward, as that's a point of confusion for many. Although covered in more detail than some other videos, I still think the subject of the "hook" is glossed over. That is the magic moment that makes this jump difficult. I think these expert coaches don't cover that in enough detail....maybe they have forgotten how hard that is to learn, maybe they are talented skaters and it came easily for them, maybe it's not as hard as I think it is and they don't think it deserves that much detail. Anyway, normally reliable Coach Julia's video on salchow is not very good. The best video I've found is: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7V4fcWDyqyolJs.htmlsi=5lKbJQ3Ek-uQNt8I
