I am glad you showed the antenna mount. I have the same old direct tv dish on the roof and was thinking about re-using the base for the last year. It is cool to see that someone else had the same idea. I am definitely going to try it now.

@theghostly I found this video while searching to see if anyone else took the dish off and used the bracket/arm for a ham antenna 😎

Very clean brother, I have the 2730a in my GMC Sierra, I just picked up an Icom 7100, I'm replacing my truck rig w/ the 7100 and putting the 2730a in the house as a base station. I have x2 Diamond NR770HB antennas on my truck w/ K400 lip mount and mag mount.

I've had my 2730a since they first came out a few years ago it's been a great reliable radio. I love the cross-band capability. Been thinking about adding the Bluetooth module.

What antenna do you use it with? What would you recommend? I live in a metropolitan area
@sporty05 Жыл бұрын
@@ivrsn_1569 Depends on what sort of space you have to mount it. I used it with a home-brew wire J-pole, a metal Arrow J-Pole, and a Diamond Tri-bander, they all worked very well. The Diamond was the best mounted outside on the roof. If you are in the city and need to keep the antenna discreet google J-pole antennas it may be what you need for low profile and conceal-ability.

Good video, thanks! I have the Icom 2730A and I also didn't want to spend the money for a control head mount so, while velcro works fine no doubt, I mounted it on a homemade mount using 2.5 mm machine screws. Hard to find 2.6 mm screws are indicated on the control head but 2.5 mm work just fine.

Checkout McMaster-Carr. Guaranteed you'll find them there - great resource.

I appreciate the vid, since I'm new to ham I was looking for a inexpensive startup. The 2730A's are out of stock at most places because they are so popular, so I have to wait for a few weeks. I too have an abandoned Dish on my house and I'm going to put a J-Pole on it. Thanks again for the vid.

We moved the antenna 4ft higher to the peak of the house. I was playing with it all day today. Good timing with your comment post!

If you could only own one, this or the Kenwood TM-V71a, which would you choose? I'm looking at both and can't decide! Thanks for the great videos! Subbed!
@fotomotoxxiii5 жыл бұрын
Oh kenwood all the way. If the money is no object I'd go with kenwood. Buy icom is excellent too. Cant go wrong with either bud.

Would love if you did a full setup/overview on it. I went through a few to give you a bunch of likes on other videos... i can only give one sub tho :) Keep up the radio vids man!

Thank you! I will be sure to make the video of setup.

@@fotomotoxxiii you got it! Really think it would be a huge improvement if you could set you camera down on something or a tripod. Will look way cleaner. Looking forward to that setup video

@fotomotoxxiii2 жыл бұрын
Yes you have low power option of 5w and reception is good. Solid radio

@@wesarrington we dont get much out here but all it takes is one. So I'll be looking into it asap. I'm just going to run a grounding line to my water pipe or drill some rods into the ground. But even with every protection possible I've heard sometimes it doesn't help. All depends
@wesarrington4 жыл бұрын
Disabled2Able ok, thanks, I was just wandering, all we get is lightning where I live.

This is why want to use my existing dish Mount since it’s already grounded.

I'm sure the menus are designed better in the ft-8900 because they can't be worse than the 2730a
