I wondered this myself when I didn't know there was a smaller light on the other side. However, I'm assuming this is most often used by securing the magnet under the hood of a car and opening the extension just 90 degrees to illuminate the engine bay with the longer light. It's not my ideal use case, but since a majority of Icon tools seem geared toward mechanics, that's my assumption.

That makes sense. I find myself preferring the modified orientation but there are times I miss the other way. If only the head could rotate!

Long side makes 800 lumen, short side 500, so no exactly earth shattering difference. I can see applications that benefit from the default setup, as well as situations that would have it reversed.

I find myself using/preferring it in the modified orientation more than the formed but they both have been handy. Maybe version 2 will have a rotating head?
