In psychoanalytic theory, the Id, Ego and Superego are three distinct, interacting groups in the psychic apparatus, defined in Sigmund Freud’s structural theory of the psyche.
They were introduced by Freud (1856-1939) in his essay Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920) and later developed in The Ego and the Id (1923).
Freud used them in order to describe the basic structure of mental life as it was encountered in psychoanalytic practice.
In this video, we will talk about what the Id, Ego and Superego are according to Freud, as well as some of its criticisms.
