In this episode I tackle the nasty red glue that many older Roland keyboards are plagued with. I cleaned up the inside, removed all the glue, re-glued the key weights, added new felts and replaced the 2 prong power receptacle with a 3 prong to make it easier to deal with.

Nice job, was really helpful to see this! I'm currently going through this same ordeal myself. Repairing a recent JV-80 pick up with this nightmarish red glue of death, stuck keys, and a broken button. Will be making sure i play the hell outta this keyboard once this is done lol.. But ngl it was an interesting fix, got to properly experience the insides of a Roland keyboard.

That's probably the best video I could find on this issue so thanks! One question: What felts did you use? The cleanup worked well but the felts are hardened because of the glue and I couldn't find any information on this.

Thanks! I bought some craft felt at a craft store along with a roller cutter and glued the felt in place. The problem is, it's not all that thick. It works, but isn't a true replacement. And gluing it is a pain. Syntaur and other keyboard parts companies do sell some self-adhesive strips that I'd use going forward. They aren't fancy colors, but they appear to be thicker and you don't have to deal with glue. Here's an 88 you could easily cut down to size: syntaur.com/Part-3786-Felt-key-cushion-88-note
