Idea Tango - Argentine tango technique
In this video I am sharing with you tango technique hints and simple exercises to improve your body awareness and to achieve an effective tango posture.
Have you always had many questions on how your posture is supposed to be when you dance? In this video I am going to talk about the posture of all the parts of your body, from head to feet, so that you can experience them and improve your body awareness. Then I am giving you simple exercises that you can practice alone at home (or when waiting for the bus, in a boring meeting, in the queue at the supermarket,....;-p ).

Hello! Reading all the previous comments, I'd only like to leave a huge "Thank You Sooooo Much!" for having shared this content. I've spent nearly a week deciding on what to show someone who has recently started dancing the imense work leading to "Dancing". Your consistent style and calm pace while introducing people to these important concepts (specially emphasizing the "do's and don'ts") earned you a new subscriber! === Happy 2024! ===

I really appreciate you explaining the "tango muscle" - I discovered this only after years of not understanding how to engage these muscles. I wish I'd seen this video years ago!

Hi Madalynn, thank you very much for your comment! 🙏🏻 I am very glad you appreciate it and I am very glad you eventually discovered the tango muscles 😊 The beauty of tango is being a long discovery journey. It doesn’t matter when you discover what as long as you keep discovering and you keep enjoying the journey 😉❤️

At the end of the day, tango should be enjoyable. I'd lose the will to live if I had to go thro this routine. My Bronowski method is to dance with a partner and refine these 'tips' as you go.

Hi Hector, I am very glad that you found the right method for you! 😊 At the end of the day, everyone is different, enjoys different things and learns in different ways. The most important thing is to find what works for each of us. And if you have found what works for you, great! Keep it up! 💪🏻🤗

Hi Silvia! That was a great video! You gave very nice tips about the posture with easy examples for everybody to find the sensation of the right posture in their body! The belly tip was really helpful to me, because sometimes I get to break the connection between the upper body and the down parts. The breathing part is also something that put me into thoughts. I generally try to breathe with my belly, as it is deeper more relaxing (it's our natural type of breathing) and it helps me connect with the other person a bit more. I sometimes also think that it even helps in the connection of the body as a whole, because it feels like activating the belly a bit more. But in that posture it feels easier breathing with the chest. I think that breathing is still a field of experimentation for me. Thank you for the video!!! :D

Hi Μαρία! Thank you so much for your comment! I am very glad it was helpful and gave you some food for thoughts! :-) In my videos I try to give the tips that, based on my experience as a dancer and teacher, works for the majority of the people. However, it is true that we all have different bodies and what it works for someone might not work for someone else. The beauty of tango, in my view, is that there is not only 1 way of doing things but it gives us enough freedom to find what works best for each of us. So, definitely experimentation and searching are the keys! ;-) Regarding the breathing, what I can say is that when I dance I am not breathing from the chest all the time. When the mood is relaxed and the moves easy, I allow my core to be more relaxed (still active though), then the rib cage opens more and I breathe more from the belly. However, when I need more balance or to be more compact, I tense more the core, close the rib cage and breathe from the chest. In my opinion, as long as you keep your core active and you can quickly switch from one position to the other as needed, then you can allow your diaphragm to dance together with you ;-)

@@silviamezzasoma yeah I agree with you more than enough about the different approach of tango from different people! And the exploration is really important because I think apart from finding what is best for you,it is important to adapt in order to communicate with every body without of course changing your style . That's why tango hugs and dances are all so different and so unique! Thank you very much for your sharing and advice!

@@user-cl3bm6cb8v so sorry for this late reply Maria...youtube is set to notify me when receiving a comment but, obviously, it doesn't do its job properly :-/ . Indeed, what you say it is absolutely true. With different partners different things might work better and the more "tricks" you know the better the chances of a good communication ;-) Very glad to be of help! My absolute pleasure to share and advise :-)

A little note to the breathing aspect: Indeed, if you need balanced, swift and and powerfull movements the body will naturally tense up the core stability muscles, implying the pelvic muscles, deep back and belly muscles and other oblique and lateral belly muscles. Since these muscles all together form a sort of internal belt between the pelvis and the ribcage all around the belly, it is practically impossible to breath naturally (belly breathing). Closing the ribcage and breathing thoracally is the most logic solution for the body and it happens all the time during sports. However breathing with the upper part of the thorax can lead to a lack of ventilation to the deeper parts of the lungs and therfore leading to hyperventilation complaints as exhaustion, heavy breating, dissyness, pressure on the chest etc. If you try to expend the lower thorax in a lateral way while keeping the belly tensed, you wil use the diafragm more actively then the upper thoraxal breatinh and therefore ventilate the lungs more. It needs some practice but it has good results on not getting uncomfortable and exhausted. BTW, this is a technique used by Chris froome (professional cyclist) during tour de France and as I believe he won once or twice...

I think your videos are very helpful. A suggestion : you could change your chain's name to idea tango. It's easier to remember, or include it in every video's name. That way you're easier to find if someone forget to subscribe and wants to find you again. Keep on the good work

@silviamezzasoma

Spero questi consigli ti siano utili 🙏🏻. Se vorrai approfondire l’argomento, potremo sentirci online 🤗

the breathing you advocate is not only incorrect, it is unhealthy and dangerous
@silviamezzasoma
@silviamezzasoma 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Dusica, thank you for sharing your opinion. There are several ways of breathing, for this reply I would like to focus only on - applicable breathing - basal breathing - abdominal breathing Applicable breathing is when we breath from the most up of our lungs, we use it when jogging for example and allows to pull lots of air in the lungs. Basal breathing is the one I try to explain in this video which is the most effective way of breathing in dance and the most used in ballet, modern, contemporary and also in tango. Abdominal breathing is the natural way of breathing that pushes the diaphragm down and relaxes the abdominals. To keep balance and posture you need to keep the abdominals activated, therefore no abdominal breathing. I do not see how the most effective and used breathing in dance can be unhealthy and dangerous. According to my recollection no dancers has ever experienced any health issue due to the breathing.
