Around 13:54 you said the 32awg was slightly better because it tested 30.1w vs the standard cat 5 results of 29.9w at 51v. This isn’t true, the higher wattage usage is due to the higher resistance of the smaller wire. To figure this out you would use watts law (not ohms law) of W/VxR. Cat5e was 29.9w/51v equals a resistance of .586 32awg wire was 30.1w/51v equals a resistance of .590 So the resistance the power supply is having to overcome is higher with the smaller cable and is why the wattage was higher in order to compensate for the loss and maintenance the same voltage. However, this was a very small difference. Cable lengths over a long distance could add up to a very large difference in power consumption. Hope that helps understand the results.

Another fine piece of extended unboxing! Love the simulation of real-life application. Price might be a bit steep at first sight but will save a lot of headaches during installations. I’m ordering one.

I've been using a VDV II Pro for a few years now i think. works well. now i want this one. I don't recall the VDV II Pro being able to load test. it does read some information about it. voltage and pins carrying. don't think it IDs the type of poe. Edit: just got to the portion of the video about toning on different pins/pairs. this has actually been useful for me. I've had issues due to noise tracking a cable. changing pins/pairs has helped. I kind of want to add this tester to my bag at work; but i kind of want a tester that will also power devices. i've expanded VoIP phones and poe cameras at work. sometimes i just run into odd issues where i wonder if it's power related, cable issue, or line ran past something very noisy. Or as more often, something gets moved or added to the plant floor that causes noise in an existing line.

You should have a option in your settings that lets You can change and set the correct distance of the particular cable being used. I think its propagation of attenuation meaning how fast electrons travel in a medium/copper. You can actually dial in that setting using a cable. just test a known footage marked on the cable that you have and dial in your tester. Have fun with the new tester 👍its a lot better than that Klein cable scout you been using for sure.

The testers has built-in TDR which means the correct NVP of the cable can (should) be dialed in to allow for accurate lenght measurements. However, plugging in the remote to the end of the cable gives you a much better lenght reading.

Good info about PoE. I'm trying to enable the PoE from my (used) HP 1920-24G-PoE+ (180W) Switch, and the manual for my version (at least I think it's my version) says to use a crossover cable. Problem is, it seems there are several ways of wiring a crossover cable. I bought a box of crayons and started coloring the boxes (simple diagonal stripes for the White & Color-Name for 4x2, and heavy coloring - i.e. 3/16" - around the solid Color-Name plus coloring over the Color-Name for the other 4x2 looks worthy of being on a refrigerator door). I've made a total of 5 sheets and one is finished - it's labeled TIA/EIA and it's supposed to be for 568B at one end, and 568B 'Ethernet Crossover' for the other end. I'll use one of the other sheets with straight through 568Bs. So any suggestions as to which the three other sheets should be colored? (I'm in the USA, if that is important.) I need to practice crimping and I have a long piece of plain old CAT5 with staple holes, so I guess I should try them all. HP workstations have great support even for buyers of used workstations. Was the 1920 series developed by a different company?
@MikeJamieGavin
@MikeJamieGavin 5 жыл бұрын
Cross over cable is pretty simple. Basically you swap the green and orange pair so that one end is wired to the TIA-568B scheme and the other end is wired to the TIA-568A scheme. This page has a nice picture: www.cctvcamerapros.com/CAT-5-Wiring-Diagram-s/293.htm As to your question about the PoE on the 1920, it's on page 478 in the manual: h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04463799-4.pdf I don't see anything about using a cross over cable to do that.

@@MikeJamieGavin Thanks Mike Davis. I bought my switch used and the eBay seller couldn't tell me anything beyond telling me that she had several HP 1920's. I returned with a bid $5 less than the already low price and she accepted. My HP 1920 works great. But there are two big problems: I need to make sure that any 'Green' features are turned OFF (Audinate Dante has problems with anything 'Green'), and I want PoE. Those two features are controlled with the 'Web interface.' To get to that I went to page 6 which says: "...to log in to the Web interface of the device from a PC: 1. Connect the Ethernet interface of the device to a PC by using a crossover Ethernet cable..." So I'm stuck on page 6. That's because I found several diagrams that talked about 'Ethernet' and 'crossover' and they didn't all agree. I think the Wikipedia diagram en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable is probably the one I'll try first. Should be fun for somebody that avoided networks on purpose for years because multi-channel sound back then wanted the computer only for itself. Thanks, john

the wires at that distances with power will not be much of a problem, the resistances wont alter too much untill you get really long runs and higher current. those thin cables will be far more of a problem data wise than power

@dennisrossi2158

It's not possible to electrically determine at which end the miswire is, not even with a cable certifier. If it's a short or a open it tells you the distance from the main unit, though.

@davewilson1411
@davewilson1411 2 жыл бұрын
Deeper explanation. Picture the cable and connectors as individual segments. You have a jumper cable that is known to be good and wired correctly. You are testing a run with keystones on each end. In a nutshell, tester will send signal out pit pin 1, signal will go through pin 1 of jumper, through pin 1 of keystone, down the cable to the other keystone. Here, it will tell you whether the signal comes out through pin 1 of the keystone, or, if it comes out through a different pin. BUT, it's important to understand that it isn't able to test and determine if the first keystone was wired correctly. It literally just maps the ends, that 1 connects to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, etc. If it says that pin 1 on the first end connects to pin 2 on the other end, obviously, that's wrong, but it can't tell you which end is right.

Have you tested BiDirectional simultaneous transmission of data to view throughput and any packet loss / cross talk? Compared to thicker cables. Can they handle simultaneous bidirectional 1gbe ? Also there are cat 6a cables being sold in slim form, can they really handle 10gbe simultaneous bidirectional? If you made this video, please post link since i have not seen it done yet.

Oh man...tempted to dislike based on the wrong information given: PoE has only 1 voltage! 44v to 54v (actually up to 60v that is considered “low voltage”). The PoE Class depends on POWER (amps) NOT VOLTAGE!! Yes, at the end is total power (volts x amps), but the PoE voltage does NOT change!! Is anybody else (informed) paying attention?!
@LAWRENCESYSTEMS
@LAWRENCESYSTEMS 5 жыл бұрын
You should do some more research on PoE. There are multiple voltages.
@garryholmberg6502
@garryholmberg6502 5 жыл бұрын
Perhaps your point was that PoE standards are describe in terms of wattage. But those standards also speak to voltage ranges -- different voltages. And even if there was only one voltage for active and one voltage for passive, that would still be two. Your own comment includes opposing statements, "PoE has only 1 voltage!" vs "44v to 54v (actually up to 60v..." . You second statement makes the first incorrect. Your other point was that PoE class is related to wattage, which was shown in Tom's video at the 2:44 minute mark when he walked through the manual. We all misspeak, I didn't catch whatever irritated you, but I did catch that Tom did catch himself when he misspoke and said "over time" and then corrected to "over distance". I doubt I would have caught it as I would have been too nervous being on camera, lol! Do you think you could explain a topic on the fly, while controlling multiple cameras at the same time without misspeaking here or there? Tom's KZfaq content is very educational, and he tells you stuff nobody else brings up. I have learned a lot and I am appreciative of his efforts. So give the guy a break and realize you too occasionally misspeak, as you did in your comment.
