Day 2 out on the snake pond job, starting to mulch down the larger trees and vegitation with the Prinoth M450e-900 mulcher on the Kubota U55. Also got some cool footage of a snake eating a frog!

You answered my question about bank soil erosion before I asked it. In Texas, I guess that's a pond. In Colorado it's a small lake. If that pond were stocked with Crappie, Bass, and Catfish, you could practice fly fishing and get dinner in the same visit! Your work turned that pond into the perfect fly fishing practice place. It would be nice to have a swivel attachment with that drum mulcher so you could turn it different angles to trim limbs off trees where the entire tree wasn't coming down. You could also have better control over which way the chips are ejected when mulching on the ground. Not saying go get one or you're not doing a good job without it, I'm only saying it would be neat to have a swivel attachment. It would also help with finish grading on slopes when combined with a bucket. I think they are a luxury item though and the work can be done without one and look just as nice. I have one thing to suggest to you after watching you clean up around ponds that you might want to consider being you touched on the subject of getting debris in the water. When you travel you seem to work more toward the way you travel having the areas of the mulcher and cutter that discharge the debris toward the water. My suggestion is to work with the open sides of the mulcher parallel to the water. If you can pull up straight/perpendicular to the water instead of sideways that would put the closed side of the cutter and/or mulcher toward the water. That might help keep more debris out of the pond and off the surface. I know its impossible to keep everything out of the pond but that might help seeing as the discharge sides wouldn't be pointed toward the water. It doesn't really matter as much here like you said but it might help at other places where it would matter. Don't exactly know if it's feasible to do that way because I've not run a cutter or mulcher from an excavator before. I ran a side arm cutter for a year for a company that contracted to the NCDOT cutting back brush and trees on the side of roads from the ditch back, not the mower doing the grass. I run a big John Deere tractor that had the side arm cutter so I got a small amount of experience with this type work. By no means am I as experienced as you with it. I have always been more on the digging side of equipment where you take the entire tree stump and all out at one time. The work you did around the pond come out great. Really opened up the pond where it can be seen and fished in if they want to now. Stay safe. -Wil 👍
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would be super cool and I've seen setups on some mini ex's on youtube. You make an good point about trying to discharge the chips away from the pond. The issue with that is being perpendicular when trying to push the tops of the trees away from the pond, you have to swing too far out over the side if you pull up completely perpendicular and it makes the machine unstable and it will tip over. I will say that you make a completely valid point and that I am trying hopefully to keep as much out of the pond as possible, both the chips and the tops of the trees LOL! I will be back out there tomorrow and I'll see how it goes, the wind will be the main thing, if it isn't blowing too hard I might be able to keep stuff out of the pond more easily! Thanks William!

@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Tommy. It's really not a slow process, considering how much vegitation is there. And no, if any mulch goes into the pond it just sinks and biodegrades naturally, in a few days you'd never know there was any in there.

Hello I just recently found your website and started watching what I wanted to say to you was at the snake pond you seen that striped snake he is more like a Garner snake. And sometimes they're called rat snakes. But the black snake that you seen hanging from the tree that's exactly what moccasins do and if you're on the water they will jump into the boat with you in a heartbeat. But moccasins are black and they have a single whitish pink stripe going down the middle of their belly underneath. So if you see a black one hanging in a tree and you get a chance to look for that one single stripe you know it's a moccasin I've killed him any of them. I even got one that was 7 ft long and my son took it to school for show and tell when he was in sixth grade. Yes I got a call from the office but it was dead. Be safe.

A safe snake is the one with its mouth full. I remember hiking as a child and suprising an Australian Copperhead ( very venomous) with a mouth full of frog. I stayed clear but watched as it tried to gulp it down. I think the snake felt vulnerable in that situation. After, it just slid away. A cool experience.

Nice job and I like that mulcher, it would be cool to take that out for a day or two. I do agree with the others that it would look nice with a few trees by the pond but that's up to the owner. Btw, I bet those snakes are living down in some of those big holes, that would be a nice cool, and safe place for them to sleep, keep cool, and have babies. I don't mind seeing them on my screen but I'm not the one holding the camera. lol

Thanks Alan! The mulcher has been great so far, I really like it! I would have like to have left some trees myself but the owner wanted them gone so what can you do LOL! I love seeing snakes but I am not picking one up LOL! Thank you for watching and commenting!

I like the way it looked before the cuting, guess im.a big nature freak, and also its destroying the wild lifes habitat, where they gonna go now ?

I am sorry you feel that way, but we are just cutting this stuff, just like grass gets cut, we are no digging anything out and much, if not all of this will regrow fairly quickly. There is still alot of space and woods around this area for the animals to go and they will be fine. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Was that the best way to tackle that i somehow dont think so that machine while it does mangle the saplings up is reasonably slow at it i know there are snakes around but a chainsaw would have had them out a lot quicker then pile them up and mulch away
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you could have hand cut those trees, but then you'd be in there with the snakes and ticks and all that stuff. And by the time you cut that tree and haul it someplace on the property to be piled and mulched I would have already had the tree mulched down and on to the next one. It seems slow but it is actually very efficient. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Walking around there you need some heavy rubber high-top boots those snakes can't bite through them. Just be careful you don't fall through and flip the tractor into the pond. Thanks for the video review!

How tall r the largest trees & circumference? This takes skill to run this machine. U do an excellent job. How much does machine cost? Wouldnt like the snake part. Deadly snakes. Ive never seen a water moccasin that big. Guess it depends on their menu. Yuk. It would look prettier to keep some larger trees around edges of pond maybe? Dies brush/trees get stuck in machine? What would shut it down? Anything? Maybe screw in a piece of metal or bulletproof plexiglass across botton to not ruin paint or rust? Or HEAVY DUTY paint...ha. Enjoyed watching u do ur work. How is machine run? Fuel? U know us gals, we like asking questions...2 more. Do snakes live in the water & around pond year round? R they there permanently? Never want to fall in pond or swim in it then. No snake lover here. Will the trees come back since root still there?

Just curious, as careful as you are, have you ever gotten yourself stuck in the hole while on camera? I'm sure others would like to know that too. You do an excellent job and it's extremely entertaining. Thank you.

Very cool machine. Would it have taken longer to just loosen the base of the trees and pull them out with the thumb? Obviously this would create a brush pile to deal. Not criticizing, just curious. Made the area look awesome.
@idigit4967
@idigit4967 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Jeff, yeah I explain this in the vid, that would take alot longer and thus would cost much more money as you would have to go around the pond twice. It is more efficient to just mulch them in place. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@ezl8002
@ezl8002 3 жыл бұрын
You need to have the mulch housing powder coated and that one cutting blade must have hit a broken off fence post or marker. Those blades are high-carbon steel and they can take a beating. We use to raise cattle on the farm and used a silage chopper to chop green corn stalks as silage and I would sharpen the blades while it was running with a special abrasive attachment while it was running which was dangerous. The silage chopper was almost like a wood chipper and the sparks would when the blades were being sharpened. Farming and running power equipment is one of the most dangerous occupations a person could be doing.

Do some of these trees grow back, since you dont remove the roots?
@jake-bw7rw
@jake-bw7rw 3 жыл бұрын
There is a possibility of the trees growing back but because he's taking most of it down and its not a clean cut the trees shouldn't grow back i work landscaping and we take care of alot of trees and we have to remove alot of those small trees when a car hits them and scrapes the bark because it can't carry water or nutrients to the leaves and it dies
