YES I would well rather it be animated! it would be perfect because of the magic you can create with animation. Also then Idina would be in it and the whole original cast! It's 2018 and I've seen lots of Elphabas and yet Idina is still the best Elphaba not because of her technique, since let's be honest, hers is not the most perfect, but because she gave Elphaba the humanity she needed to be relatable to everyone who's gonna watch her the best. Idina's imperfections that time are what made her the perfect one to play Elphaba.

@@twobirds5921 they rushed the hell out of a song that was already cut down for the allotted time. I'm a musician, and rushing when you don't need to isn't impressive, in fact when you do it in instances like these where you're acting as a backing track for someone else, it makes you kind of an ass which is what the conductor was in this instance unless he was trying to slow them down, which I doubt.

a_m_w 2007 If you are talking about the last ahhhh, her first arm movement is for the ensemble. Usually there is a second arm cue for the orchestra, but in this there wasn’t, so they went ahead. Also the first ahhh, is cued by thrusting her broom downwards. It is all dependent on how the Elphaba wants to perform the song. Similar cues are used for The Wizard and I. Also, holding a C#5 in a chest voice is very difficult. Also, they had to fit a nearly 10 minute performance in a 5 minute time slot.

Now that I think about it, I don't blame all the 9,11,30 year olds who sing "Let It Go" non stop, whether it be in the shower, videos or just breaking out in song. When I was 13, I saw this very same Tony Awards show and by the end of the performance I was stunned. I listened to "Defying Gravity" over and over again, I even sang it countless of times. I then dreamed to pursue theatre but had gone to the architecture field instead. Luckily for me, 10 years after seeing this, I finally had the chance to watch Wicked when I was in Singapore, and seeing this performed live sent shivers down my spine. Now that i'm 25, I have the instrumental for this very same song still playing in my earphones while I'm at work, and when no one is home, I still sing it with my all. I still dream the impossible dream of being covered in MAC PRO Chromacake Landscape Green, performing this on stage hahaha Idina Menzel is very influential, I love this woman. No Tony performance will ever ever ever ever outdo this. I've listened to this song and seen a performance of it hundreds of times, and this STILL gave me goosebumps. Performed to perfection!!

I saw them perform this in December of 2003. It took my breath away. My daughter was a sobbing heap in her seat. It was one of the BEST shows I have ever seen.

No matter how many times I hear this song or see this video, I can't help but want to cry when she rises up like she's flying. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in a musical.

Honestly i find the trembles in idina's voice and quickness so fitting in the situation. Especially towards the end genuinely thought it was intended at first watch

HELLO. So for everyone hating on Idina, she had a fever, cold and she had an asthma attack minutes before she went on! She hit those high notes better then any of you guys could and she doesn’t usually go that far with the expressions ( I think she was trying to take attention off her voice) give her a break smh 🤦🏼♀️

Unpopular opinion: I think Idina did amazing. We're too quick to judge her but she was acting the song here, something not a lot of bway actors are good at

I don't see why it is an unpopular opinion if all of us agree with it.

Ciara Stewart Thats just untrue, many Elphaba's have and still do it better than her technique wise, like Alice Fearn for example. Idina strains far too much, which is why her vocal range has declined throughout the years.

Can we talk about the harmony at 2:29 ? 😍 Perfect✨ Also, for everyone who says that this perfomance is bad because of her breaking or whatever, this song is perfect. Because you're gonna remember it, and it's all that matter 😍 saw it years ago by being lost on youtube and it's this special perfomance which makes me love Wicked and musicals ! And Idina of course 😁 So just enjoy how amazing Idina and Kristin are together 💚
