All though what you said is true, this incident is slightly different. The car in front of that woman was braking, but stopped braking and kept going. That woman on the other hand shouldn’t have come to a complete stop. She slammed on the brakes after the cammer honked. That was a result of the horn, not the person in front of her. The front headlights keep going while she kept slowing down until the brake check. By the time she got out of her (quickly), the person she was apparently “stopping for” was all the way down the road. That last slam on the brakes is how the collision happened and was a response to the horn. Not to mention she received a hit, but than ran. Out of all the bad POV cammers on here, this one was mostly the other party’s fault even if you include his late braking. The POV cammer would’ve come to stop if not for that unnecessary slow and stop by the runner. Number 14 is a much better example of what not to do in the snow.

@JohnH01305 ай бұрын
Trying to leave a safe distance from the vehicle ahead in congested highway traffic is nearly impossible; other vehicles jump into the gap constantly, and trying to slow down enough to maintain the gap constitutes a separate very dangerous hazard. Gotta tip your hat to that driver's situational awareness, though. He sensed what was about to happen and jumped out of the way. Took some damage, but avoided what might easily have been a fatality.

6:11 another commercial driver who doesnt brake at all
@billedgin24965 ай бұрын
He was on the brakes before impact. Precisely when he hit them, I'm not sure. Commercial drivers have a habit of forgetting how slowly their brakes react. With a car, brakes are virtually instantaneous. The only delay really is the reaction time. On a commercial vehicle, the brake pedal basically compresses air. There is a delay between the time the foot hits the pedal and when the brakes fully engage. If you're tailgating and/or not paying attention, the truck simply is not going to stop in time. You can put the brake pedal on the floor all you want, you're going right through whatever happens to be in the way. In this case, I give a lot of credit to the minivan for trying to get out of the way. They saved themselves from what could have been a much worse collision.
@steveroyer16285 ай бұрын
0:40 if the car in front of you is tailgating, you should leave extra room. If the car he's tailgating hits the brake, you know he'll hit the brakes as hard as he can. Cammer has 3 cars lengths in front of him and very slow reflexes apparently. Use the 3 seconds gap if you have his reflexes.
@stephenLarson-vs7fu5 ай бұрын

About a week and a half ago I flew from Texas to New York to pick up a RV that we had bought then drive it home. When watching You Tube videos about how to drive an RV the advice was 'do what the truck drivers are doing.' When I saw the truck drivers driving fast in snow and poor visibility - I started being very picky about which truck drivers to emulate.

@2:20 it’s a car from early 70s, passenger mirrors were still an option and were not required by law. My 87 civic didn’t have a side passenger mirror either, only the driver side was mandatory.

I was born in 1970. It was not until my parents bought a new car in 1984 that we ever had a car with a passenger side mirror. My old fiat spider still does not have one, as it was never even an option for that car. Thankfully I only ever drive that car with the top down, so it is not that hard to turn my head to look.

#3, if only there was some type of sign of what the car in front of you was doing. Like, I dunno, bright red lights, to pick an example entirely at random. #9. If only you were driving at an appropriate speed to your visibility. #17. Another who needs to lose their CDL.

5:15 - Fiest off, buy winter tires. Second, you forgot rule 1; look where you want to go. Chances are you will make it. Had you looked hard right, your instinctive response would have bern to let off the brakes, allowing the front tires to gain some traction.

At the 3:38 mark does anyone else need a reason as to WHY you turn headlights on when it's foggy?
@kdmq4 ай бұрын
At 0:45 is the reason why I try not to use the horn in some situations. Many drivers instinctively just slam on the brakes and stop when they hear a horn. So, as a rule, I only honk if the other driver stopping would actually make the situation safer, which it wouldn't in this example.

2:29. Just for people's reference, cars from that era were not required to have passenger side mirrors. Many cars had them as an option, but not included standard. I have a car from the late 60s that has no passenger mirror. The rear view mirror is chrome backed (from the factory), which would be illegal today. The seats have metal backs, which would never fly. And, so on. Lots of things have changed.

To the guy @2:06...a tip Dont hold the brake...When you come up to a hill. Put your car in the lowest gear manually. and let your engine do most of the braking. Youd be surprised on how effective that is. But doesnt help also if you dont have winter tires on. That I cant tell you. BUT I do know you were holding that brake the whole time making sure you're pants were clean.
