Idle issue fixed on my civic (idle screw)

What it do budget crew so I think I finally fixed the idle issue on the civic i did multiple things but ultimately what tamed our idle was adjusting the idle screw on the throttle body for now everything seems good so stay tuned

You shouldn't be pulling sensor plugs if you don't know what they are for. "That" sensor is the most important one of all . Tells the ECU the motor temp.,Doesn't turn the fans on, that one is a switch on the thermostat housing

That screw is Air Mixture. There is a set screw and that has a little play on the arm where the throttle cable is. About a 1/8 th of an inch i guess. It is hard to get to on my Y8 but that is really the only true idle adjustment. Like a carburator. The spring wheel stop for the butterfly.

We have the same way to open up that idle screw full close then halfway open hahaha. Been my headache for years now

Throttle plate has a specific fixed position. Messing with that will compound your problems.

Yeah Forsure!!! Close it all the way and open it little by little turning the car off when adjusting

If it has an IAC valve. Clean it out with simple green, and carb cleaner, or get a new one. Also change that pcv valve.

I actually did end up replacing both of those parts and they really did help alot but the timing belt snapped and set the build back alot now 😅

A iac valve is never the answer it’s just a easy go to for people to say because they don’t know anything about cars

@@Sup251usually its just a simple cleaning that fixes it, Fast idle thermo valve, air in the coolant etc… annoying shit lol

I'm having the same issue, on a cold start it's idling at 900 but once it's warm it'll idle at 600-700, if I turn on the AC it'll idle at 500 shaking the entire motor trying to stay on, I've replaced the idler thinking that was the issue but didn't solve my problem, so I'll be giving this a shot

mine surges then it goes up to 3000 rpm and doesn’t go down. It runs and drives fine. Any ideas on how I could solve it?

Iacv? Try cleaning or replacing I'd also replace the pcv valve

you pretty much only need an idle/ecu relearn if you try starting the car with throttle body disconnected. typically for these you need to tighten the iacv screw all the way, then unscrew 3 full turns.

I believe your idle is rough because your distributor looked as if you had your timing all the way retarted. set your distributor in the middle somewhere until you get a timing light.

I would refer to the owners manual for the exact position but ideally you'd want to be in the 500-800 range.

That screw adjusts air/fuel mixture. Not idle speed

A throttle body, not a carburetor. With the iac unplugged, that air bleed screw sets the base idle speed. That is if everything is working correctly. Which in that car it obviously is not.

my 95 Civic Coupe idles at around 600. seems low to me.

@@derpy4335what makes you say that? It’s probably the IACV like most other idle problems. I bet a new alternator couldn’t hurt tho. These motors are supposed to sit at 600-800 and never touch the idle screw, it’s fine how it is from factory

Yeah I do I mean I don’t really drive it every day more like once or twice a week but so far so good

@@budgetfixes yea I've got a low idle on my 94 civic after it warms up I tried this today but after further inspection I found my radiator fan to be not functional pretty sure it's the coolant temperature sensor since it worked when I wired it to the battery
