This is absurd and I can tell all the reasons why. And please dont equate key words with just the same word. Synonyms, having the same context and lastly specifics such as names and examples are worth taking note of. Candidates dont have the luxury to read an entire passage and to expect them to paraphrase in multiple ways. This will only work for C3 level examinee

Partly right, it works for some names and dates, but the time invested in that will cost the candidate overall - namely, the overall content which is often needed for many questions. Simply put, Band 5 level IELTS students will score a Band 5 in IELTS reading whether they skim read or not. However, Band 6.5 and higher (7, 8, 9) will score lower if they skim and scan because they will take too long trying to figure out several answers which cannot be solved by skimming and scanning. Point-and-case, you cannot skim read for a "Not Given" answer in T/F/NG - it will take way too long to realize that the info is not given. Next, you cannot skim for "Which Paragraph Contains the Following Information" because the first question can be in Paragraph G - meaning you just skim read the entire passage to figure out one answer! Think about this.

Skimming and scanning only works for name, date and number. You are suppose to match the meaning not the words that's where you have to do close-reading (understanding the paragraph/sentences).

@@nosiphomakoba8942 Do a lot of timed practice tests for reading and listening. I used to take two tests everyday for a week before I gave my exam. When you get an answer wrong, look at the correct answer and find out why you did not choose the correct answer. Practicing really helps you manage the time. Time can be a huge factor because the exam day chills will really slow you down. All the best and keep us updated!!

@@annusharma540 I used to have a co-worker who scored like 8 bands. Everyday we took a 30 min break and walk. He gives me random topic and I have to talk about it for 2 mins with just one minute of preparation. That really helped me quickly think and come up with something. Doing a mock speaking test with a friend or family member helps a lot. All the best!

Some people say that Skimming and Scanning will save your time and help you find the answer, no matter you understand the content of the passge or not, but In fact I don't think so, some Reading passages are too difficult, and it requires you to understand them pretty clearly to answer such mutiple choice questions or matching heading, you're totally right, however, time is so restricted :)) I never use Skimming and Scanning in Ielts reading, instead, I choose to comprehend each passage, this gives me the best answers but never keep pace with time limits

You're r great :))) but like in some abstruse passage how can u understand it well or maybe that passage has so many unfamiliar words somehow you cannot know then what will you do :)? try to comprehend it well, impossible . So I firmly believe although sometime skimming and scanning is worse, most of the time it do well their job :))

That's the exact thing I instruct my students to do. But one thing, I always tell my students to read 1st questions of the each question type which comes orderly, and all questions of those that doesn't come orderly. For example, in the reading passage provided, after reading 1st paragraph my students would read all questions of 1st type, which is headings. Then, to save time, they will read the first questions of multiple choice and complete summary question types. What do you say about it?

Scaring is not the solution of the problem. I have given the exam of 7 of Jan. I was too scare at that time because of it was my 1st attempt. Be calm and feel relax. You will definitely get success. Examiner just want to know whether you are capable of speaking, listening, writing and reading.

I don't know abt others but first i started skimming and scanning but now i don't reason cant manage time. Instead i remember key words of 2 question and solve if paragraph deals with 2 types of question then i note down key words with paragraphs because it is easy to remember 😅

Got 9 bands through skimming and scanning and finished within 30 mins. So had the leisure to read ALL the paragraphs twice in the remaining 30 mins.

I think you were misunderstand what the tutor meant, this is a strategy for those questions about heading matchings which is not really to be the same as that tests ;

Today I got my results ( L-7.5,R-7,W-6,S-6) and overall 6.5. I had practiced a lot speaking and it went really well on exam day. I don't know why I got such low band score in speaking. Should I opt for EOR?

yeah maybe you right, but I think you forgot to consider the whole viewers. I mean not everybody can find it easy, of course it depend. And a abstruse paragraph can not help you to understand more about this strategy. In contract, it may cause many people feel reading tests are over their ability and they will scare of reading test somehow :(

I think it mainly because of your poor vocabulary, I used to be same as you but yeah like when I came to study synonyms of words, for instance: pencil can paraphrase to writing utensils somehow :v
