Just got my score from the Exam from May 3rd, L 9, R 8.5 W 7 S 7. Well sufficient for immigration purpose. Boosted my CRS score by 16 points and now it is well above all recent draft scores. Great tanks on the IELTS videos. I just watched Chris' videos and did not take the class, but I'd definitely recommend whoever has a weaker background to join his class and VIP service. This is a guy who really understand the IELTS test.

Honestly speaking, I cautiously avoided almost all of these overused idioms in my Speaking test. Instead, I opted for the less frequently used expressions. My flow , while speaking, seems uninterrupted. In the last section, when the tougher questions are to be fielded , I am more inclined naturally to use complex and somehow longer sentences with minimal grammar lapses. The usage of academic and formal words, along with some idioms and phrases, helped me score 8.5 band in Speaking. It was two years back ,though. Now that I am vying for band 9, I must go above and beyond. Yours are greater tips to follow. You are greatly appreciated for your strenuous efforts to bring forth some gems and nuggets for rather hapless and hopeless students. By all accounts, scoring band 8.5 is not a cakewalk. You gotta go on a painstakingly hairy and uphill journey. Burn the bridges behind and burn the midnight oil till the cows come home.

Hello there! I got a band 7 certificate in late 2019 and am glad to know about this channel. If I do not forget, I'll report on what score I have on June 9. Chris' advices are so valuable to me, especially those concerning the speaking and writing modules. Want to score at least 7 in both of these, while keeping my listening and reading skills strong. A contribution that no one requested here: I took a certification test last month and really thought I could achieve a C1 because I assumed it would only take writing as I always do, but I couldn't make it and got a B2 level instead. My reaction to the results was "how's that even possible? I've been speaking this language for years. There must be a mistake". And I blamed not having used bunches of idioms in the writing and speaking part, but after this clear explanation, it's quite obvious that I indeed need to study 😂 because I took the examination without even knowing they deduct points hehe.

Interesting video! Idioms is a cool thing 🙂 I think it also depends how you usually talk in your native language. If you like idioms you might use them in English either 🙂 But I would still be a little afraid. It kinda looks like another, higher level of speaking. So you probably can‘t hide your mistakes and look confident at the same time using idioms 😃
