Great walk through. I've just ordered the X18R for my band and will at some point be looking to install it in a rack system. Question about the tray for the IEM transmitters, where did you get this as the standard rack kit is for only 1 transmitter? I have the LD Systems MEI 1000 G2 transmitter (as does my oppo) and would be looking to recreate your setup. Cheers Andy

Hi! Awesome video! But I would advice using splitters with input and direct output in front and second output in the back. Like ART S8 3way. Yes its more expensive but makes your kit cleaner and wont require keeping all wires for FOH hanging out of the rack. Cutting the hole in the XR18s rack mount will make it easier for cable management especially for those racks where you will have to leave one unit empty for cables and you wont need to take out behringer from the rack to change cables. OR just put xr18 with its inputs inside the rack. XR18 does not have any faders/buttons/triggers on it that are crucial on the stage

Thanks for info, as the splitter is only occasionally used, I have gone over to a 0.25m 8way to db25, and plug in the other side of the db25 when needed which is much better. I also use an X32 rack which has inputs on back. Thanks for sharing your advice - all useful to others building racks

Ohhh, cutting a hole in the fins of the XR18 is an inspired idea! I'm trying to adjust how my system works because it's a pain running all the cables every show - currently I use 2 6U soft bags and have to cable it all up for each show. The split snake I bought is a floor box so there's no way to leave that plugged up. Looking at a new 14U rolling rack w/rack mount splitters and all of it contained and hooked up. When running a show with my own sound, just plug in mic inputs like normal. When running IEMs only - allow house tech to plug directly into my rig and hand him (marked) tail. Should work a lot more efficiently and cut down on set-up time by 15-30m. Only problem is how to get a 14/16U rolling rack up/down stairs. Does a hand-truck work OK for that? I'm getting too old to just

Greetings - do you have a workaround for sending a stereo output for each of the individual Aux outs where my IEM amplifiers are connected to? I essentially just want to be able to pan different instruments on both my left and right ears. I currently use a Behringer PM-1 and all my sound comes in on the left ear which is a big mush of sound.
@tmmmusicstudio
@tmmmusicstudio 2 жыл бұрын
Behringer make the powerplay P1 which is a powered stereo unit. Thus it can take a stereo input. The XR18 also has ultranet output, so you can use the P-16 16 channel units, which I have just bought, and they are amazing as you can pan and eq.
@darrylday30
@darrylday30 2 жыл бұрын
The XR18 can only do 3 stereo aux mixes: buss 1/2, buss 3/4, buss 5/6 plus the LR mix. Stereo mixes always use up two busses. If you need more than three stereo mixes (plus the LR mix) the P16 is your best option. If you just need one stereo mix, the PM1 will work fine. Note: the PM1 is great unit but it’s not designed to work from balanced aux outs. It’s designed to be a remote volume control for an unbalanced headphone output. Lucky for you, the XR18 has a headphone jack. Headphone jack… plug your PM1 into the headphone jack on the XR18 with a 1/4” TRS to XLR cable as shown in the PM1 quick start guide. You will still need a pair of busses linked in stereo on the XR18 (BUSS 5/6 for example). To get your stereo linked buss pair to the headphone jack instead of the aux outs, go the the monitor page in the app (“monitor” means headphone output on the XR18) and assign your linked stereo buss pair (BUSS 5/6 for example) as the “source” for monitor (the headphone jack). This puts your linked stereo buss pair into the headphone jack. Turn up the headphone volume control on the XR18 front panel, turn up PM1, turn up the buss (BUSS 5/6 for example) and mix. You could use a balanced aux out on the XR18 for a mono mix into the PM1 or even get a stereo mix by using two aux outs into a Y adaptor that converts the two balanced mono signals into a single unbalanced stereo stereo signal, (see the XR18 quick start guide) but just like mono, you might not have enough volume. If you really need to use the aux outs in stereo, just get a P1 and a pair of XLRs.

@tmmmusicstudio
@tmmmusicstudio 11 ай бұрын
Yep I have looked at that - just a cost issue as it is a few hundred pounds, which I have not got at present! It is a great solution though. The splitter also protects the x32 sockets from damage as well…
@AdamWhiteAcupuncture
@AdamWhiteAcupuncture Жыл бұрын
The Midas DN4816-O makes the splitter unnecessary. Use the ultranet out from the mixer to the DN4816, which requires one shielded CAT cable and provides 16 XLR outs.
@tmmmusicstudio
@tmmmusicstudio Жыл бұрын
Indeed it does. Very good point. I don’t think this was available at the time I built the rack, but it is something I have looked at, thanks. I also use my split now for a backup mixer - connected with xlr to db25 at the splitter, and then a db25 to mixer pre connected, so I just have to plug in. I also have a separate db25 to xlr for connecting to a managed PA if needed. If the DN4816 is used, if the mixer failed, it would not work…. I always like a backup plan!

What about phantom power, is there an issue with it? the splitter passes the current?
@tmmmusicstudio
@tmmmusicstudio Жыл бұрын
Most (or many) splitters work by having a true wired link and a second transformer link. As long as your mixer or source of phantom power is on the true link, then it passes. So when we play in a venue with a managed PA we give the PA the transformer split, and control the phantom power ourselves. Hope this helps.

@tmmmusicstudio

Unfortunately not. Its a fairly cheap unit that provides surge protection only, and the rack ears are fixed. @tmmmusicstudio
@tmmmusicstudio 3 ай бұрын
Difficult to say without looking in person. Make sure the input gain on the mixer is at a good level, set to 0db (although some people will set at -6), and then have a good signal that is green on the meter and only occasionally peaks into yellow. I assume your in ears are fed through a bus, so just make sure the levels to the buss are good. Are you using cables to a headphone amp, or to a wireless box. The headphone side needs to be active to amplify the line level signal (I know its obvious but just checking), some wireless in ears will also have a gain knob you can turn up. Use good cables. They dont need to be mega expensive - for live stuff I use visiosound or stagg, cheap but good quality. Hope this helps. Also splitter does have ground lift and link buttons - make sure these are off unless you want them on…

@@tmmmusicstudio thank you - in reading the MS8000 manual, I found that part confusing. What about the warning here: "WARNING! Be careful when using phantom power on linked channels. If two linked channels both have phantom power sources connected to their respective LINK OUT XLR jacks, phantom-powered mics or DI boxes may receive too much current." I don't think we will be using the link function in a traditional in ear mixer setup as we need 1:1 inputs/outputs for all the different instruments. Any information you can provide would be of great help! THNX!
