If I Could Have Only One Lens

If I could only have one lens, which one would it be and why? There's a clear winner, in my opinion, and that's the question I'll answer in this week's video. Shopping around for the perfect lens can be a daunting task for anyone. With a non-technical common sense approach, I keep the answer short and to the point.

Another winner here! Why this Gentleman does NOT have a lot more SUBscribers, is beyond me? But we are all living in most curious of times. The News events of Today certainly bore that out! But I digress… I usually use the 24-200 on my Z7, for landscapes etc. ( A Henry Turner wannabe perhaps? ) 😆 😊 I have been recently shooting with the ‘cheap’ little Nikkor Z28f/2.8 lens. It actually works rather well on my Z7, and while not the sharpest lens, it does have ‘character.’ I’m saving up for the NIKKOR 24-105 S lens. I have read good things about that lens. Not as fast as say, your 24-70 f/2.8, but maybe a bit more versatile. The slower aperture not of importance if on a tripod, and it offers VR. Stay safe and Happy Shooting!

George, more versatility is excellent. Indeed, I would like to carry one lens that does it all. Sharpness is always at the top of my list, but it's not the only consideration. I'm hoping Nikon comes out with my dream lens one day. I've been looking at the 24-120mm f/4 and giving it more and more thought. I could drop over 3 pounds on some of my longer hikes. I truly appreciate your heartfelt comment and your support! Thank you for watching, and thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I use a Nikon 28-300 mm f4-5.6 zoom on my Nikon Z6. I use an 80-400 mm f4.5-5.6 zoom on my Nikon D750. My two camera two lenses cover wide-angle to telephoto everywhere.

I would probably pick up the 28-300, but I’m not sure how often I would take it with me. I don’t know for sure, but I think that would be a great lens to take on some of the ridge lines I often visit in the Ozarks and Red River Gorge 🤔 thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thank you for watching!

@@ScottymanPhoto I bought the Nikon 28-300 mm f4-5.6 AF-s VR many ago, new, paid the full price of $1800.00 and I never regretted it. I first used it on a Nikon 6006, Then on a Nikon D750. Now I add an FTZ adapter and use it on a Nikon Z6. A true one lens!. The title of this video is "If I Could Have Only One Lens". The 28-300 mm is the only one. A used one on eBay goes for less than $500.00.

When I got my first full frame camera the 24-70 was my first lens. Then came the 70-200. These two cover most of the work I do on video BUT they don't excite me for photography. On a recent trip I just took my fast 50 and that was it. I have added a 20 and an 85 so now feel I have just about all I need. So my ONE lens for video is the 24-70 and for photography is the 50.

Well, it looks like you pretty much have it covered. In fact, I’ve been considering making a video about the Nikon 14-24. If they made one lens do it, I’m sure that would be my new go to lens. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thank you for watching!

@@moozarksphotos458 Yeah, I bought a set of Lee filters for it years ago. In fact, I use the same filters on all My lenses using adapter rings. It's an interesting lens that I mainly use for arches in the Red River Gorge.

I prefer to carry my 24-120mm f4. It's not a heavy as my 24-70mm f2.8 and I get a few extra mms of length. I'm willing to give up the extra stop of light.
@ScottymanPhoto

That's a good focal range. Also, f4 works well for landscape photography. Except for a few occasions, I'm usually in the f4 to f13 range anyway. It usually comes down to personal preference, and one's genre of photography plays a significant role. Thanks for saying your thoughts, and thank you for watching!
