In GR, it is fun to take pictures by loving the camera.And it is the camera that can contribute most to the words that Daido Moriyama said, "There can be no quality without quantity."

Another way you can set up the GR III to use snap focus is by setting the touch screen to fire the shutter in snap focus - that way, if you are using the shutter button to activate AF and suddenly want to take an image in snap focus all you need do is touch the rear screen. This avoid having to jab the shutter button all the way down quickly increasing the chance of introducing blur due to camera shake. Note - if you set the camera up this way you do lose the ability to select a specific AF point using the touch screen - so depends on the type of shooting you are doing and your preferences. Further note - this touch screen snap focus option was added to the GR III through a firmware update that came out when the GR IIIx was introduced - so if you want to use that option you need to install the firmware update first.

I typically carry both. The X-pro 2 with a 27mm or 35mm lens and the GRIII in my shirt pocket. The GR comes out when things are too close for the X-Pro or I just want to use the GR's high contrast B&W mode.I have no problem switching back and forth between the two. Love both cameras, have used them for a number of years, and don't want anything else.

GRiii is the best tool for the job, just very unsatisfying to use. The fuji xpro or an X100 range camera is a lot more engaging for me, hence I sold my ricoh.

I have an Xpro and GRIII and agree with your comments. I definitely shoot the GRIII more, and I know that has to do with size and ease of carrying it. I like how with GR most people don't even give you a second look, whereas with my XPro I would get suspicious gazes at times.

I love how you reference classic street shooters, Gary Winnogrand, Fan Ho. I use the X-Pro2 (along with other X-T, X-E class) simply because using a rear LCD just doesn't work for me. Too much flare in bright sun, plus I'd need to wear reading glasses to give the frame a critical look. Enjoyed this video! Subscribed!

In summer of 2022, I am seeing X-Pro2 go for closer to $780-$1000. I don’t know if prices went up this year. I know X-Pro1 prices went up a little bit from summer of 2021. I just picked up an X-Pro2 and I love it - crossgrading from the X-E3 because I loved the X-Pro1 body but liked the X-E3 brains. The X-Pro2 gets weather sealing and many of Fujis primes have it too (I would love a weather sealed update to the 18mm f2!). The GRIII is attractive to me for pocketability but I find my 2013 Lumix LX7 compact is a great little B+W camera at near the same size (a little older and slower, maybe, but still great). I do wish Fuji would follow up their old X70 with an X-Trans compact that is cheaper and smaller than the X100 series.

For me the X70 is the perfect pocket camera, and if pairing with another Fujifilm camera as i do its way more intuitive. I agree i think Fujifilm have missed a trick here by not continuing this model, its a thing of beauty both in its design/build and most importantly functionality. fingers crossed...

I'd pick the GRIII as well, snap focus is a great feature and image quality is outstanding. The positive film simulation output is gorgeous and the contrasty B&W images are probably the best in the market. Playing with all those Fuji recipes is fun for a while but those two in the Ricoh is all you need. And all that in a compact stealth body with a large sensor. The only downside is the dust issue, which I don't think they have fixed in the GRIIIx.

if anyone is interested in the snapfocus or the highlight metering mode heres the solutions. for snapfocus adapt a vintage lens or manual focus in a certain distance. to highlight meter, set your camera to spot metering and point the camera to the sky and properly expose the sky, then your highlights are gonna be exposed and your shadows will be looking great

I have never used a Ricoh GRIII, therefore, I cannot comment on it. On the other hand, I have used a variety of film and digital cameras for street photography. The Fuji X-Pro2 is my favorite digital camera for street photography. My Leica M10 is my second favorite. When shooting street photography, I set the X-Pro2 on the silent electronic shutter mode. When shooting the X-Pro2 with only one lens, I use the 23mm f/2. When shooting the X-Pro2 with only one lens and under good light conditions, I use it with a 16-55mm f/2.8 zoom lens. When shooting the X-Pro2 under low light conditions, I use it with 23 f/1.4, 56mm f/1.2, and 16mm f/1.4 lenses.

Liked my Gr3 but sold it for Fujifilm x70, and much prefer this little camera ( although sadly discontinued ). Although neither compare to the X Pro2/3, its a beast...Excited for the 4th iteration. Keep up the good work :)

Nice vid …. Totally agree with everything! As a side note, highlight weighted metering and snap focus aka zone focus is possible with a manual focus lens with distance scale markings and spot metering.

The Fujifilm 18mm f2 is seriously underrated. I had it for a year eventually selling it off for the 23mm f2. The 18mm was great though, looks good, feels good, performs good, shame it doesn't get much love.

Thanks King, As I love my XPro1, and XE1 as they are 16pixel as they do the job right, and also I use my Nikkor Manual Focus lenses, and shoot Stop Down metering on Manual Mode. I like them, as I also got adapters for Nikon F, 42mm, and 39mm Threaded, so I love using the Carl Zeiss line on both models... Good Video

Can’t pay almost 1k for the gr3 when there’s no viewfinder. I know there’s a hotshoe attachment but that’s not ideal. With my cheaper digicams I find myself trying to look through a non existent viewfinder too much.

dude have you found the x pro 2 to be a bit slow sometimes on the streets?
@JJ_Photo
@JJ_Photo Жыл бұрын
Yes. The x-pro2 is slow. And useless in manual focus mode. But a great camera never the less. The GR is the best street camera. The x-pro the best allround camera, if you ask me. If you can live with one lens, one camera, I would suggest the Leica Q. But that one is a bit expensive, even used.

He probably realized he was losing a ton of money and not the next coming of Meyrowitz and is switching to digital. Also, youtube-tographers tend to be obsessed with color, which is expensive AF now. So digital is a great way to keep shooting. Probably got tired of finding cameras in a single thrift store and making videos. He's likely attempting to transition from film. I just come here to get a few giggles at the pretentiousness of it all and then move on with my day.
