Here's a session video of one of the first times I ever played this song. So crazy how things develop over time. It went from one singular song to be the title track on my Sophomore album. Enjoy.

Seriously Colby, this song is your masterpiece. My 82 year old grandma insisted I make a CD for her to listen at home. Her jaw dropped open when I read the lyrics to her. Her comment was "I can't believe how apropos these lyrics are for our time". She was born the year The Great Depression started. She tells me she's never seen anything like this before, but your song captured everything she's been feeling. This is a song that will stretch generations, and it already has.

This is literally my favorite song. I actually heard this while listening to Ian Noe. He’s from Kentucky, along with good ol Tyler Childers. Colby Acuff is one of those who will save country music. Especially this kind of music. Thank you for my new favorite song.

This is honestly one of the best written songs I've heard in years. I'm ill at home teaching myself to play this, and honestly it's getting me through this illness. I can't believe what an amazing songwriter Acuff is, and how I didn't come across him earlier.

Enjoy the Lyrics: If I were the devil, first thing that’d I’d do Is I’d come off as somebody who gave a damn about you I’d let you catch a peak of all your greatest desires And I’d watch the flames in your eyes burn like hell fire Find all the wolves, in the land And I’d make them fight each other Tooth and nail and hand to hand Find all the sheep, make ‘em stir up the pot ‘cause once the wolves have killed each other, sheep are what I want The devil walks among us friends, I know this is true And I don’t know if he’s red, and I don’t know if he’s blue One thing that I know we need to take a look around If I were the devil, this world would be my playground ‘Cause I’d place that thorny crown on my furrowed brow Well I’d shine in all the tears of joy, yelling from the crowd I’d want to brain wash some parents, and I’d have the world I’ll be in every schoolhouse lecturing little boys and girls The devil walks among us friends, I know this is true And I don’t know if it’s me, and I don’t know if it’s you But one thing that I know we need to take a look around If I were the devil, this world would be my playground For my final act, I’ll tell you what’d it’d be I’d have everyone so medicated, they could never see My cloven hooves or horned head would be all disguised And the best part of it all, is they’d comply with their demise The devil walks among us friends, I know this is true And I don’t know if it’s me, and I don’t know if it’s you But one thing that I know we need to take a look around If I were the devil, this world would be my playground If I were the devil, and this world was mine to see Well id see all the atrocities and it’d probably frighten me So I’d run back home, with a story to tell I’d tell all my demon friends that I always preferred hell

That’s funny, take all the wolves and make them fight, it would be like gathering the people who start wars and having them fight it out instead the rest of us. And the devil would be a set of beliefs between a generation, passed down to the next. Some terrible idea. The reason why the song is so scary, it’s probably because it’s true. Who or what is all behind all these horrible things orchestrated it all starts with one person. So many people live in fear so many people live in dogma. This song is truly a masterpiece.

Yeah I've always thought putting all those who are about the fighting,killing,looting,burning, just take em all put em together n let em do what they wish and leave the people who's only intentions is to keep their family and loved ones safe, alone. The only way I'd kill someone is if they are harming someone in my family or anyone that they're forcing their will on and willing to take a life in the process (color of your skin won't be a deciding a factor). I was a firefighter so I'm passionate about saving/aiding someone whos in a tight spot with a life threatening issue, whatever it may be, taking a life is something that I hope I never ever have to do. I hope y'all have a good day and stay safe out there everyone.
@JustAnotherSmith Жыл бұрын
He isn't exactly talking about "people who start wars". He is saying wolf in the context of those strong enough to stand up and fight for themselves. The next verse tells the tale, "‘cause once the wolves have killed each other, sheep are what I want". Sheep follow blindly, scare easily, and do as told.
