I get why people ask for restaurant recommendations, etc. on Facebook. You're asking people you know and who know you and your tastes. Sure, you can Google it, but word-of-mouth (and its technological extensions) is still relevant in today's society. What I don't get is people who ask completely informational questions on KZfaq or Yahoo Answers. The sort of stuff you can literally type into Google, and it would take just as long as typing it into a text box as a search bar. Why would you wait hours or days for someone else to answer a simple question when you can do it yourself in 10 seconds?

Yeah that's the same thought I had. I usually ask because I know my friends know what I like. Heck sometimes I ask just because I hope it starts a conversation that leads to us going and doing what people suggest (i.e. what good movies are out? Anyone want to watch it with me.) Nothing entitled about that.

I like Yahoo Answers. I don't even need to pose any questions there myself. But when I google my question, other people who asked the same thing on Yahoo Answers show up as the only viable result (everything else is usually pretty off-topic and not helpful). Information from other people is often a lot more condensed. Like for example, today I tried to find out how much time one has to wait between a failed driver's license exam and a new try in different countries (for a discussion). Yahoo Answers immidiately had people ready who had failed and therefore asked that exact question, while everything else was definitions of driver's licenses and books with hundreds of pages of traffic law that SOMEWHERE within all that also contained the rule on how long one has to wait between exam tries.

It’s funny I use to think people on Facebook were weird asking these questions to people when they could easily Google the answer but then I realized it can be nice and handy getting suggestions from certain people. That’s why I’ll ask questions anyways. Lots of times I feel I’d prefer the opinions of local people and people that I have things in common with.

That's nice. But the sarcasm in this skit is the 'vague' question. Like, not listing what kind of restaurant you want, or your pricing range. If you notice enough, there's difference between people who genuinely ask and people who just want some attention. The former would end the conversation pretty quickly when they get enough information while the latter would prolong the conversation by invalidating most of the answers just because. Ofc not all people like that, but they do exist.

Ted Talens I don't trust all of my Facebook friends but most of my Facebook friends are people I know to some extent and can evaluate how much knowledge they may have on the subject I'm asking for. Besides, do you seriously expect me to message EVERY SINGLE PERSON on my Facebook that I think may recommend a good restaurant in town "Hey, do you know any good restaurants?" Instead of posting it on my timeline? That makes a lot of sense.

The reason people say that is because nearly all of the younger generation moved on to Twitter, Instagram, etc. barely anybody under 18 goes on Facebook anymore, it's filled now by parents & grandparents & businesses.

Facebook is a utility used by all ages. On the play store alone it has a billion downloads. I can't imagine those billion downloads are from grandparents. Since when did they learn to use smartphones? I'm over generalizing of course. What people speculate doesn't actually matter because at the end of the day Facebook is still worth billions.

Seriously: There was once a guy in a fb group who asked something and several engineers who work in that field told him that he should do it completely differently, because it's just botch what he's doing there (not for his hobby project, but actually in the production in the arms industry). And then he was pulling off a huge rant that we are all too stupid to read and that we didn't answer his question. Yeah, sorry... This is like making home-made brake discs out of wood and asking someone how to coat them for better endurance. This is just completely wrong right from the start, sorry...

+ClandestineOstrich On KZfaq, you can find a heap of people who are totally interested in every little obscure one of your favorite topics. The chances of having a bunch of friends that are fascinated by all the same things as you is zero, but KZfaq doesn't limit you to only speaking to friends. Better yet, on KZfaq you'll find people who oppose your views, and they challenge you. That's the only way to learn in life. You never learn anything if you only speak to people who already agree with you. It's people who disagree and explain the counter-arguments (and force you to further research the validity of your own perspective) that really expand your mind. And yes, you will encounter the odd turd-flinger while you're on KZfaq, but you know, whatever. They're just letting off steam or having some harmless fun, and you can ignore them if you like. Maybe KZfaq isn't suited to people with tissue-paper skin, or who are only happy when in a "safe space", but for the rest of us, it's frigging awesome. Anyway, I totally agree with you. Facebook sucks. KZfaq rocks.

Getting suggestion from friends is better than google because if you go to a restaurant that your friend likes or listen to a podcast your friend likes you can talk about it later. So yea it's easier to look stuff up, but when an awkward silence comes in a conversation with your friend, you will have nothing to talk about. Nothing....

asking for suggestions from friends isn't asking them to look things up, its wanting to know what your friends' experiences have been - places they went and enjoyed, books they read and enjoyed. I can't think of a ruder response than "look it up yourself." Sometimes people care about their friend's opinions, and want to converse with them - that's how you keep up a friendship.

This one went completely over my head. My FB is just my friends and family, and they know about me and I them. What is wrong with saying, "Anyone have a book/ podcast/ restaurant idea?" They'll give me better recommendations that Google, who doesn't know anything about me. How is that weird/wrong?

TheAsianPlaysGames Seemed like they were mocking ch's video saying it more likely to appear on buzzfeed to me but I thought it was pretty good and like sketches they have done in the past so I don't know why they're commenting it other than to likeseek after seeing this comment get voted up on nearly every other video sketch. If they're going to try and mock something for being a mimickery of something else then their own comment would prove very hypocritical. In short this guy needs to stfu....

Hot damn. I actually read the Devil in the White City. Its actually really good for a nonfiction book! Though I definitely don’t count it against it. The dips into metaphor are where it really shines. Its quite good.

Maddi Pollard you can't make general statment like that. lots of people have lost weight and got back to shape by eating a all meat diet. meat also contains proteins you need that you can't get from anything but meat.
