It's honestly making me want to root against the Lions now. Dallas got screwed over just as much and the play the Lions get "screwed" on the Lions were trying to be underhanded and confuse everyone anyway. With all this reaction, at this point I say Lions deserve it.

If the refs were our friends we'd have made it past the divisional round in 2014.

The only reason the Lions had that chance at the end was because of that tripping call on the Cowboys which clearly show it should of been called on the Lions.

They couldn't scheme open a wet paper bag. The players are doing too much. Go beat a defense when blind toddlers can see you plays coming. Whenever casual observers can call all of your plays as you run them, opposing defenses know the plays too. Nick Siriani looks like a drunk playing video games after trying hard drugs. Every opposing quarterback looks like Joe Montana with Bill Walsh. The defense couldn't contain a prepositional phrase.

I can see why you would think that, being a Panthers fan lol. Honestly, rigged? Sure, I'd accept that. But there being an actual script for how every play in every game turns out? The amount of rehearsal it would take to pull that off for 18 weeks would make Broadway actors tremble.

There's a difference between "scripted," "rigged," and "fixed." Rigged: includes point shaving and manipulating penalties to keep a score closer than it should be for betting lines; Fixed: the overall outcome of a game is predetermined; Scripted: the events in a game are known in advance -- eg: "team A goes up, then team B takes the lead, then team A wins on a miraculous final play." Rigging is common and becoming more common with the way people now can bet on games with sliding lines in real time. Fixing is rare, but does occur, usually for some monumental reason. Scripted is a canard used by people trying to deflect that games are frequently rigged and occasionally fixed. You would need every player, coach, and owner involved to script. You only need a select few involved to fix. You only need the refs to rig.

In fact, the first time I read about games being fixed was in a book published by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. You start putting the pieces together and you'll see the NFL has been rigging and fixing games since 1920. They had to crack down on players throwing games after 1958 and that continued up til free agency removed the ability of bookies to buy off players. At that point the NFL gained the complete ability to control its product without a player undermining results. I mean, the federal government had a task force that looked into players throwing games (you can only ensure failure). Keep in mind this is during the 60s and 70s -- sports betting as we know it was illegal. A lot of the books were local and not run in Vegas (ties to Vegas, yes; run directly in Vegas, no). Now, think for a hot second: why would the federal government have a task force to ensure an *illegal* operation was on the up-and-up if 1) players weren't throwing games to alter outcomes; and 2) the NFL wasn't working towards certain outcomes? You also have to know the NFL had to meet certain congressional standards for the merger to occur in 1970 -- and then be granted immunity from anti-trust laws since it was now a monopoly. In short, the NFL *has* to control it's product. You cannot both control your product *and* let things "just happen." The NFL has over 100 years of experience doing just that. Pro football goes back at least to 1906 in-so-far as manipulating games to improve revenue. People who say the NFL is rigged or fixed or scripted generally don't understand the ins and outs. They just see something and see it's off. But they also don't even know what constitutes holding or pass interference beyond whining "the other team did something that looked like a penalty and didn't get called, so the fix is in." For instance, last year's SB, everyone cries about the refs wanting KC to win. The game was being rigged, but their bias didn't allow them to see how it was really being rigged. It was Philadelphia getting a bulk of non-calls and even a catch-move-fumble overturned in their favor to keep them in the game. The first year that live, in-game betting was introduced, every divisional, championship, and Superbowl game came down to 3 points at the end of regulation or O/T. That's pretty coincidental, to put it mildly. Vegas didn't lose on a single one of them. It wasn't about which team won or lost. It was about maintaining even action so their natural payout schedules worked to the house's advantage. Did you know the year KC lost to the Bengals in the playoffs, KC was up big at halftime and someone placed a "sure-money" million dollar bet the Chiefs would win? I mean, the payout was only $20K on $1 mil, but a free 20K is a free 20K. But you know there were a ton of people lining up for free money besides that guy. So what? Well, last year when the Chargers were up 27-0 on the Jags, guess what happened? Right. Someone placed a million+ sure-money bet the Chargers would win. And a bunch of other somebody's made that same wager with lesser amounts. How'd that turn out again? I was talking about the long history of rigging games with a guy at the bar. The Browns/Ravens game was on. Out of market. No one really cared. It was towards the end. Pretty much out of reach. Browns had the ball. The guy goes, "This one's over, unless it's rigged." I replied, "We'll know if Cleveland throws an interception." The very next play, no QB/WR miscommunication. It wasn't a bad throw or the receiver went in when he should have gone out. No, the ball was simply thrown right to the DB. Hit him in the face and fell incomplete. The guy looks at me. "How did you know?" At the end of the day, enjoy the games for what they are. Entertainment. Don't get up too high if your team wins. Don't get down too low if your team loses. But most of all, never bet on anything you don't control. Vegas Never Loses
