It's hard to explain but seeing another surface floating around the sky is horrifying. The moon since it's far away from us, we barely see anything on it, which is okay. If I saw Saturn everyday I went outside? I'd probably never look into the sky.

This is the result of the planet's physical characteristics (diameter, density, mass, etc). However, when it comes to determining which planet orbits what, only mass matters. As the planet Uranus has a mass 14.5 times that of Earth, it would be Earth as the moon in this situation, not the other way round.

okay i'm getting trashed on lol. basically the distance between earth and the moon is aprox 384,400 km and the radius of the sun is aprox 696,340 km. my initial point is that there wouldn't be any earth to burn, since it would be *inside the sun* if the sun were to replace the moon. so no, overlaying the image with flames is *not* what would happen. :P

@D CYou've got a point. Still, there are definitely some holes in the upload. 1) The sun is not a planet 2) The moon is not a planet 3) The moon replaces itself, with itself? I don't know. 3) Pluto should be on the list, as it was considered to be a planet once. 4) If you're talking 'proximity', if the second Earth were to be placed exactly where the moon is - it would be a lot closer than depicted here. Even closer than the GIANT Jupiter. Wouldn't it?!?

Can you imagine the tides if Jupiter was our Moon (or we were its)? It would be tsunami for every coast for every day, and 1 day per lunar period, would be a solar eclipse. We would even feel the gravity distortions as Jupiter passed over our heads.

It's because, even though it's not real, when you start seeing all these planets so close to the Earth you let that become the reality. And if the Sun is at this range with our planet it would be pretty scary.

Guess what? I used to have daydreams of that exact view of Jupiter or Saturn THAT CLOSE to the earth, slowly but perceptibly turning in the sky. And that very idea used to scare the living daylights out of me too…..!!! 😨
