I don’t believe in evolution, or hominids but still it’s definitely a survival gene. I believe it was created by God to know when something is wrong. Mainly when detecting dead bodies, demons, or maybe some extinct animal that used to hunt humans. I’d prefer not to think about the last one 💀.

There would be no reason to be terrified of them though. In fact one of the primary theories being floated in the science community as to why other human species don’t exist anymore is simply because we interbred with them until we became homogenous. The uncanny valley likely has much more to do with things like corpses. It makes sense for humans to fear the corpses of other humans, especially in a survival environment. First and most presently, whatever killed them might still be around, secondly and more long term, decomposing bodies can spread disease.
