If worth were found through the praise of men
No hope could be hoped for
Through lips of sin and the flattery of men we often lose our way
If worth were found in the quantity of our earthly possessions
Surely no hope could be hoped for
It would amount to nothing but vague obsessions
That lead the heart astray
If worth were found through righteous deeds
No hope could be hoped for
All that would be planted would be self-righteous seeds
To proclaim our good deeds to the world unseen
Our hearts set to boasting
Before a world with no hope
If worth were found through the expectant desires of being loved by others
Of finding a place to belong
No hope could be hoped for
One by one all fall short
Longing turns to dust
We often turn our faces to see there is no one to trust
If worth were found through beauty
Surely no hope could be hoped for
Beauty fades with age
Many succumb to this stage
Vainly hoping for recognition
For life
But if worth were found through the love, life, death and resurrection of One
Truly hope could be hoped for
When love is our ammunition
Against the chaos and pain of a dark and dying world
Through the doubt and numbness through which our existence whirls
There is hope in One
There is worth in One
Through Him we have worth
Through Him we have hope
Through Him we have peace
Through Him we have won
On a bloody cross planted in the ground
Outstretched arms drew all in to a pounding, beckoning heart
Radiating pure love
My worth is finally found
Through Jesus Christ
Who breathed one last breath
Crying “it is finished!”
Now through the brightest of bright lights
The purest love my sin has demolished
My worthless stains washed clean
All forgotten and forgiven
Through His bleeding wounds
His majesty is shown
And in His life
I have found my own
