Should Christians make promises to God? It’s common whenever we really want to get God’s attention, to make a promise to God that we will either do something or not do something again. Amen. That's why I stopped making promises to God, such as to never commit the same sins again, when the truth is: I PROBABLY will. Although I try not to sin, I am human & it is in our fallen nature to do so. Since I came to terms with this fact, I am now instead asking God to help me to prevent committing the same sins again. Asking for God's help is more truthful & biblical than making promises to him that we know, deep down, we can't keep. God bless you, my Brother Allen.

Brothers and sisters could you guys pray for me I’ve been sick in a digestive and body disease since almost now 5 months I can’t eat or have energy I’ve lost weight wasted lots of money on medical treatments but no benefits So seems only prayer is the only way through it

I keep crying out asking for prayers because, I’m losing hope. I know our prayers are stronger together so please pray for me. I’m struggling to provide for my two autistic children since losing my job over not getting the vaccine. I have pre existing health condition (Lupus) My husband passed away three years ago, so I’m all alone. Both of my sons are non verbal so things are very difficult for me. I don’t know how we are going to make it. We are facing eviction, every month is a struggle. I’m so embarrassed of my situation. BUT NO MATTER WHAT I have Faith that God will provide!

I made a promise to God once, and broke it. The very next day, i lost my job. Over the next few days, my daughter and myself got sick, my wife had a bad experience at work, and I found my designated prayer spot (outside close to a dam) burned. Since then, I have learnt to FEAR making or breaking my promises to Yahweh.

I was foolish in my late teens and made this ignorant elaborate negotiation with God. I feel that this conversation still haunts me 10+ years later. I’ve learned that the words I speak are phenomenally powerful. I feel like I continue to have that memory because God taught me then don’t play with Him. My yearning for forgiveness, grace, and prayer persist because I want nothing of my foolishness to continue to wreck havoc on my life. I pray for love and grace for anyone with similar experiences.

I can relate. I made a stupid vow out of ignorance and impulse and I just broke it. I am super scared of the consequences that I said should come on me if I broke it. I am really sorry that I did this. I really want God to forgive me

I made a promise to God and i went back on my promise and it seems I’ve lost everything that I’ve accomplished 😢😢😢. My son was delivered from drugs for almost 10 yrs. And he’s now back on them and lost his children. I blame myself for my broken promise. 😢

I needed this video I keep making promises to God but end up breaking them sometimes and I feel super awful about it afterwards but even after all of that he still loves me and he still forgives me. His Love, Compassion, Forgiveness, Mercy, and Greatness are far beyond anyone's comprehension. He is the Way the Truth and the Life. His Love never fails it never gives up and it never runs out and in Lord Jesus Mighty name I pray. Amen.

I’ve told the Lord that I would share Christ with my neighbor. I’ve had opportunity after opportunity, but I’ve avoided it or let fear overtake me… (I’m 16). Or I just dawdle. I’m such a fool. I feel this burden on my soul because I have already made this promise. I must do this. I know I have to. Please pray for me to fulfill it quickly. I even missed an opportunity TODAY. Lord bless you. I once promised to read the Bible every day for the rest of my life younger I thought it would push me into it and I feel guilty about falling that promise and wow the spirit is speaking to my heart to let that go yes Lord!

If you make a promise to God keep it if you break it it is a sin , so always be careful you don’t anger God because you may destroy every thing you have worked for . It’s best not to say too much if you can’t keep your word . Amen 🙏🏻

@@svensvenforkedbeard170 Im in the same boat as you. I promised out of impulse and ignorance but I plan to keep because at the end of the day I made the promise. I plan on fasting and reading his word to help guide me. I promised to not do a specific sin and I’m truly afraid of myself especially in the future. I shouldn’t have done it but I plan on keeping it. I’m scared of myself in the future but Ik that God can help guide me.

@@paolahenriquez3766 I appreciate the tips, and I will maintain them. I promised rashly but reassuringly I have had many signs and wonders to accompany the word he gave me that I promised on. Mine is not related to doing a sin as such it is promising not to do something without him moving first and I've waited a while but I trust in him. Remember he will keep you and guide you and if you do not want to do a sin that you know is a sin he will: A:Aid you in overcoming it B:If you slip and fall he will catch you and forgive you Remember it is his strength you are relying on and he is the one who started a workmanship in you and he will not give up on you.

I’ve made some promises to God in the past. Thankfully, the ones I remember I’ve managed to keep. However I will definitely be refraining from making promises after watching this! Growing up my parents would always tell me “don’t swear; let your words speak for you”, and I never understood them until now.

I made this mistake years ago, LOL. Thank God for His mercy! When it comes to sin, we will NOT overcome by sheer willpower, so saying "Lord, I'll never do it again, I promise" will not override the sin nature. Instead, it is daily, moment-by-moment reliance on the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16), as well as being intentional to allow the Word to challenge and uproot the attitudes and desires (Romans 12:2) that drag us into sin. The Spirit of God ALONE enables and equips.

I have not broken my promise yet, but i feel I've already broken it because my thoughts are preparing me for it. Im not entierly sure of the future right now, but i do know im leaning more towards breaking this promise. Everyday is getting a bit more stressful, and i can feel within myself that i want to relapse. I gave up marijuana for the Lord, and it's been a year and a half without it. I can feel myself caving every time the temptation is presented. I have an amazing family and support group, i know that the scriptures are against its use, and the worst part is this is the promise i made. Im dreading the day this promise is broken, but im mostly dreading judgement say of being rejected. I am a sinner, and my lord is Jesus Christ, but what if God can not forgive me for this sin... I am all deserving of his rejection, i know i deserve it, im a filthy sinner and dislike myself for it at times. I was foolish for thinking sacrafice was a choice, but not reading his word. If i had read my bible, and gave him my time of day, i would have known not to make such a fool out of myself... i'm afraid to break this promise, but i am starting to cave in.

I made a promise to the God before I had any knowledge of the lessons that were in this video. Although I didn’t make a give and take promise to the Lord. I made the promise wanting to show my dedication and faith to God. Well, I failed. But again I made the same promise. But then after I saw this video I Quickly prayed to God to forgive me for making such a promise out of ignorance. Although I didn’t make a promise wanting something form God and me giving something in return. I still feel bad and asked for forgiveness. Pleas pray for me as I for-fill my promise I already made to show my love and dedication to our Lord. 🙏🏾 (The promise was to self improve for a number of days to show God my dedication for him and growth In faith with him.)

We can't do anything in our own strength without Christ. We have to seek GOD for strength to overcome sin struggles and temptation. John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" Philippians 4:13 "can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Great message, totally agree👍. I've also learnt not to make promises to people I couldn't keep especially when I tried to give something up, it just brings disappointment. Instead of making that promise its wise to hold what you say and just do it. People want to see your actions not empty promises. I suppose that's the same thing for God

Jesus Christ is Lord. He died for our sins and Rose on the third day. If you believe, confess with your mouth that he is Lord get baptized put God first seek him with all your mind body and soul love your neighbors as yourself. Seek God while we still have time. Be blessed brothers and sisters

Man I just sinned against the lord and I made a promise just a day ago that I promise I wouldn’t do the sin again and I just gave in I felt confident when I was promising god that I’d stop and I just failed I feel bad and I feel like I let him down I didn’t realy no about promising to god or not I thought I was realy done with that sin and just like that I took full responsibility and I did it the next day I hope the lord forgive me but I still have hope and if your going thru sum like this i prob know what you feel I believe if you tell god your sorry and next time I’m just going to try my best to please god and stop sinning and sinning and the lord still loves you the way you are so from now on man no more promises unless ik I can keep man it don’t feel good to break a promise to the lord anybody if you have a promise to the lord and are tempted to break it please don’t man never again

This biblical theme increase my suffering because I struggle with OCD, intrusive thoughts, the enemy attacks me with blasphemous thoughts. I feel a huge grieve, struggle and weight in my shoulders to be accepted and loved by God. I saw testimonies of people having unwanted intrusive thoughts about making promises in their minds and they are afraid of never visiting the hospital because of the intrusive unwanted vote, (These are examples) they are afraid of never eating lobster, working in wallmart, playing baseball.

Remember 1 John 1:9. God knows we are sinners, and isn't surprised when we do. God forgives promises. I have similar fears, and knowing that we are in the embrace of a loving God can be wonderful thing. We don't need to shrink back when asking for forgiveness. We should be mindful when making promises, but God is a God who knows all, and knows our weaknesses. Nothing we can do can make God love us any less. God also forgives intrusive thoughts.

I am suffering from a mental health condition, and made a promise to God but broke it today, I am in guilt and feeling disgusting about myself. I don't know what to do? Will the reason I made the promise for be affected?

@so-cool- Like I said, this is a hard topic for me too. I had to ask for help as well. Remember that God is a forgiving God. He knows when we will succeed and when we will fail. He is more than willing to extend grace to His children.

I think it would depends on the kinds of promises, and the circumstances in which the promise have been made, many times Christians find themselves in situations that goes against the faith, in which it is displeasing to God, most times it can be based on old habits, and we confess them to God and made promises that we will never do them again, and break our promises, and most times it can leave a deep guilt in our hearts, in 1John 3:20,if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts and knoweth all things, he knew the conditions of the heart before we even made the promises, and I think the reason why we feel sorry about is because of our reverently fear towards him, and our desires of having a closer relationship with him, i don't know if making a promise to God from the heart, with the intention of keeping it ,and falling short, is worst than never making the promise at all, and again sometimes our promises to God it may not be what he desires of us, in 2 Samuel 7 king David desires to build the house of the Lord, and God rejected his offer, thanks be to to Him for his grace and mercy, whenever we makes promises and fails to keep them, He is faithful in his promises towards us.

In my early days I promised God something and I didn't keep my word and I lived with that shame for many years, to the point I didn't feel worthy enough to ask for anything on my behalf. We used to sing a song that said I made a vow to the Lord and I won't turn back.

@@kathure638 First of all, keep something in mind. The devil will do anything to make you feel like you've messed up so bad that you have lost your chance to be saved. That is why he is the "father of lies." In the old testament (Daniel 9:9), it tells us that God is merciful even when we have a point of rebellion. Mark 3:28 tells us that all sins can be forgiven except for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. That is hardened opposition to the truth (which you obviously don't have). Mt 5:33-37 tells us that in the old testament, God told us to keep our promises but now Jesus says do not promise at all because we are powerless and He knows it. The way you go about this is simple. You find a quiet place and you talk to God about it as you would talk to anyone else. Mt 6:9-13 tells us how to pray the Our Father as well. If you feel you have sinned, the Bible tells us to confess our sins to one another. This is why they have Confession in the Catholic Church. However, you can always confess and talk to God who is all forgiving about your concerns. Like Hebrews 12 says, God disciplines his children for our good as a earthly father would. Talk to him and try not to have fear. He will hear your confession just as he heard your promise!

But clearly you said that reverting a promise will anger God and he may refrain all the achievement he has granted on to you. I'm really afraid of God's anger🥺💔. I really am. So how do I go about it. As always, Brother, so very blessed by this video along with your others. The account of Jephthah is indeed very troubling, and I have researched it considerably. His is the ultimate lesson, along with the New Testament Ananias and Sapphira, for why we should be so careful, and at all costs in general, avoid making promises to our Lord. Given the fact that our God absolutely abhors human sacrifice, I can’t imagine him accepting a human sacrifice from Jephthah. Scholarship seems to indicate that the young lady was essentially dedicated to God entirely, which makes sense given that she wanted to mourn her virginity. If she were to be murdered through human sacrifice, I doubt virginity would be the first thing on her mind. Still, a lesson not to be forgotten.

As a young Christian, what you said at the very beginning is 100% true. I often made promises to God and I often offered promises for something in return, like: “Dear God, my Lord, if I pass this test I promise I will stop lying.” then it happens, I pass the test but I also continue lying the next day. That’s because I made a promise which I can’t keep. I have done this more times than I like to remember and sometimes I managed to keep my promises but I have also broken some (and not so rarely either). If you know that you can’t keep your promise then please don’t promise it. You are making grave sins by doing this. First you are breaking a promise to God and second you are asking things from God which you have no right to ask in return for anything. You should strive to do all those things that you would promise God in exchange for NOTHING because that’s what being Christian is all about. Ask for things from God in prayer and in utmost humility and don’t promise anything because God will be much happier with you trying your best to improve for no rewards in return than with you making empty promises. Don’t make the same mistakes that I did, protect your soul from sin.

It's so cool to see young Christians like me in the comments. God asked me to tell my friend about him using "Isaiah chapter 55 verse 6-7". I tried telling my friend about that verse but I forgot what the verse said before so I didnt really explain it that well to him. The second day I tried telling him but I forgot to. Today was the day I was gonna tell him but I didnt because I was afraid that he wouldnt want to talk. We went on the same bus together, I tried saying hi to me and the thing is that he saw me say hi but he gave me this nasty look so I just backed off. I was so regretful that I didnt tell him and obeyed God. When I went home I prayed and promised God that I would tell him next Monday. Now I watched this video it makes me kind of sad that I made that promise and idk what else to say

12 years old. Struggling with touching myself. It doesnt interfere with my school work. I still get all A's and try my best on tests. But still. I dont know how to stop. I made a promise and i didnt keep it.
