This video is a verse by verse study through Romans chapter 6. Many people in the church world believe that they can be Christians and continue to live in sin. They claim that since the bible says we are saved by faith apart from the works of the law, they can live however they want. This is nonsense. The bible is clear that if someone has truly believed the gospel then God has given them a new heart. They have been changed and they now seek to live a holy life. This doesn't mean that we are sinless, but it does mean that we have been changed and we no longer live in sin like we once did. This is called being born again. Romans 6 makes it clear that if we have been united with Christ, then we have not only died with him but we have also been raised in newness of life.

Semantics. Christians will continue to sin. It's a matter of amount and severity. I think David is a great example of one who loved God, yet continually found himself missing the mark. David hated his sin and God forgave him those sins because David's heart was truly for God. There is no such thing as a sinless believer. The thing we must address is intent. Thank you for sharing your testimony with us.

Right. Jude talks about those who pervert the gospel of grace for sensuality and deny our only master and lord Jesus Christ, and say they’re condemned (they were condemned before the foundations of the world) I think we find an example of this perverting the gospel of grace in rev 2 in the lady of jezebel teaching others to fornicate with her. Jesus said “I gave her time to repent and she refused to repent” This is living after the flesh. Perverting the gospel of grace. Living lawlessly, and perverting the gospel is using grace to justify living lawlessly (“we’re not under the law, so let’s sin”) The grace of God does account for sin, of course the example you gave and the account Paul gives in chapter 7. “That which I want to do I do not, and that which I ought to do I don’t” continuing in that he understands that what he does is evil which means his conscious bares witness that the law of God is good. So it is no longer him that does it, but sin that dwells in his flesh. Therefore there no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. I think it’s important to make a distinction here that walking after the Spirit is referring to cooperating with sanctification. We know that the Holy Spirit sanctifies those who are indwelled by him, and those who are indwelled by him are saved. Ephesians 1:13-14 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guaranteeof our inheritance until we acquire possession of it,2 to the praise of his glory. The Holy Spirit is received after we believe (I received Him in Baptism and many accounts in the Bible minus an exception or so all have them receiving the Holy Spirit at baptism) So in belief you get baptized and receive the Holy Spirit. Once you have the Holy Spirit inside you, He is a guarantee of your inheritance (part of that is salvation) So if we receive the Holy Spirit at baptism, when we first believe and he guarantees our salvation, the only possible way to “Lose” salvation is to “lose” the Holy Spirit. Can a sincere Christian sin away salvation? No, Roman’s 7, Romans 8. Can someone who refuses to cooperate with the Holy Spirit lose salvation? Perhaps. See Jude. Of course, some people believe it is a fine line, i however do not. I believe it is a MASSIVE GULF. Attitude is a good way to put it, I’m agreeing with you by the way lol. Just putting this here to add on. But there is a major gulf between trying to be a good Christian and having times where you’re better or worse at that And out right perverting the gospel and turning God’s grace into a license to sin. John puts it very frankly. Do not sin, but if you do sin, we have an advocate : Jesus Christ who will forgive us all of our sins.

We cannot continue to live in sin, but we do sin. This is why we depend on God’s grace - not as an excuse to continue in sin; but to recognize God’s faithfulness - and to humbly depend on him for our salvation and sanctification.

Then essentially you're saying that salvation is not only believing in the death, burial, and resurrection for your justification and remission of sins. You're essentially saying that salvation is partially works-based and the Bible is clear that there is no grace in that. Because you say that you "cannot continue to live in sin". The correct statement is we should not continue to live a sinful lifestyle, but sin is sin, and no many is justified by his own righteousness because we are sinful and would fall short.
@Open2Reason
@Open2Reason 9 ай бұрын
@@willp.8120 No, I am not essentially saying that. I am “essentially” saying that our salvation fully depends on the work of Christ in us, evidenced by a sincere desire to turn from sin. If we are motivated to continue sinning, we need to examine ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith. Our sanctification is not our work, but God’s work in us. Should not vs. can not is merely semantics. It’s the same thing. If we should not allow ourselves to sin, then the proper attitude is “I cannot continue to sin.” That’s God’s work in us. Edit: perhaps “must not” is more correct.

@@Open2Reason > If we are motivated to continue sinning, we need to examine ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith. Hi Brandon, you are confusing SALVATION with SERVICE, God keeps those ideas separate in scripture. SALVATION is a free gift that cannot be earned. SERVICE to the Lord is for rewards that are earned. For SALVATION I don't have to keep the law to be saved, to prove I'm saved (Acts 15:24). For SERVICE to the Lord I do have to keep the law to have FELLOWSHIP with my heavenly Father God, to be approved, to be perfect (mature), to be "in the faith", to do the will of God. In reference to salvation Paul writes in Romans 11:5-6 God has decided at this present time to save people by grace, not grace plus living a holy life or repenting of sin or not practicing sin. Grace and works do not mix when it comes to SALVATION. Romans 11:5-6 5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. The Apostles had a meeting about whether someone who has faith must also keep the law to be saved. The Mosaic law has the Ten Commandments in it. They concluded by saying they never commanded anyone to keep the law after faith...TO STAY SAVED. Acts 15:24 24 Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law”-to whom we gave no such commandment The people who teach you must keep the law, AFTER you believe, for SALVATION, are false brethren (Galatians 2:4, Matthew 7:23), because they don't believe what Christ did on the cross gives EVERLASTING life. Its only temporary life until they practice sin again, supposedly proving they were never saved. Living a Holy life isn't AUTOMATIC because the Holy Spirit is present. The bible teaches the only way to grow in Christ, to abide in Him, is to read the scriptures and do what it says. If a Christian does this they will go from immaturity to maturity. What if a Christian doesn't do this? This means they are CARNAL and will act in the flesh, it doesn't mean they aren't saved. If Holiness were AUTOMATIC than Paul would never have to warn any believer of anything they are doing wrong because the Holy Spirit would fix the problem eventually. A Christians sins are paid for completely by the cross and God gives Christians the ability to have POWER over sin in SERVING the Lord which is what Paul is talking about when he says Romans 6:12-14 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Christians have to "become" servants to God, its not AUTOMATIC. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. Living a Holy life, pleasing the Lord is by a believer's choice. If a Christian is motivated to continue sinning that doesn't mean he isn't born again, it means he is abiding in the flesh or it means he is immature in the faith or both, nothing more. Since tares look just like the wheat (outwardly) and since a born again Christian can abide in the flesh as well as the Holy Spirit, and since the bible shows examples of believers who practice sin, and since God says you can't tell a tare from a wheat and since some believers can lose their faith, are still saved, you can't tell from appearance who a born again believer is from the way they act. The idea that every "true" Christian will grow in holiness over time is only true for maturing Christians, NOT FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE.

@@iThinkBiblically I have an issue with looking at fruit as evidence of Salvation. Fruit is evidence of maturity. Paul said some believers are babies in Christ, especially the Christians at Corinth. Sanctification is a life long process and most Christians fail terribly. Imagine telling them that “you are not saved”. That’s terrible and unbiblical. You can’t say salvation is by grace alone through faith and then turn and say you will have to produce good works. That’s backloading works to salvation. Our evidence of salvation is the risen Christ. Born again believer should walk in their new life, knowing that all their sins have been forgiven. Telling someone that they need to see a change in behaviour as evidence of salvation is dangerous as one will constantly look to themselves worrying if they have changed enough, instead of just taking God at his word, ie he that has the Son has life. If good works come naturally, why does God chasten is then? We are even told that we will all stand at the judgement seat of Christ and some believers will lose everything. How would you explain that, if works come naturally?

@@emmanuelmoses7249 Yes. We shall give an account of everything we do. Even the good we do shall be weighed. But the judgement of the believer will not lead to condemnation, because we are justified instantly the moment we believe the gospel. Our sins as believers are not covered by the precious blood of Christ, they are completely removed as if they were never there. No believer is condemned or shall ever be condemned. That’s why the gospel is the good news, when it comes to salvation, works are not part of the equation, wether we talking about before or after salvation. All the scriptures most people like to use to try to slide works in are exhortations for us to do good like Titus 3:8 says. I don’t think a born again believer can live in unrepentant sin and have peace, chastisement is not fun and games like Heb 12:11 says.

I agree in many ways. The older I get and the closer I walk with God, the more sinful I realize I am. The bigger is the gap I see between my best actions and a Holy and Righteous God. No one can rely on their “good” works, and I'm not sure that is what this individual is promoting. We are saved by the redeeming blood of Christ. BUT John says… 3And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. -1 John 2:3-4 ESV No believer obeys all of God’s commandments perfectly. But the one who John points out here is the one who claims to walk with God but does not. It is possible to obey all the “rules” and still not have fellowship with God. But by willfully not keeping His commandments, one actively denies their fellowship with Him. John does not hesitate to call these people liars.

It's always a tragedy whenever a Christian lives a sinful lifestyle. But that should not take away from the simplicity of the Gospel. Here are some thoughts I had after watching. 1. Not everyone has such a dramatic change. 2. With the view mentioned in the video, assurance of salvation becomes impossible. We're allowed some leeway to "struggle with sin" but cannot "let sin reign". That is a subjective grey area which no one can quantify. If we need to stop sinning to be saved, then logically all sin must be stopped. Break one and you break all (James 2:10) 3. The viewpoint mentioned in the video mixes grace and works. If stopping the reign of sin is required for entrance to heaven, then stopping the reign of sin actually becomes a condition for salvation. No amount of re-articulation can change this. 4. Paul describes himself as "carnal, sold under sin" in Romans 7 almost 20 years after his conversion. Yet we would all definitely agree he was saved. 5. Lot was guilty of a wayward lifestyle, yet he was still labelled by Scripture as righteous. Again, this is NOT meant to justify sinful behavior. As a certain writer put it, "the remedy for carnal Christianity is preaching more aggressively on the manifold blessings that accompany the sanctified life and the importance of the Spirit-filled life (Eph 5:18) so as to avoid the prospect of forfeiting rewards at the Bema Seat (1 Cor 9:24-27; 2 John 8; Rev 3:11)."

Here’s something I wrote to someone who was mixing works with grace: Me: “Works is works… Grace is grace. We are saved by grace, not by works. There’s works and then there’s grace. There’s works of the flesh and works of the Spirit, and both are still works; the latter doesn’t apply to salvation any more than the former. Person: “Being obedient to the teachings, commands, statues and decrees.” Me: “This is works of the law…” Person: “The other works is that of the world and yourself.” Me: This goes against the law and is sin. My overall response… Here’s the issue: The law does not save anyone, the law only condemns (Romans 3:19-21), because the requirement for the law is to keep it perfectly; if you break one law, you break all the law (James 2:10). If the law must be kept at all, all the law must be kept. Sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4), which means keeping the law is the opposition to sin. Thing is, since the law only exposes you and makes your sin known, the law does nothing for you except condemn you. So you’re stuck in a loop. Paul spoke of this in Romans 7. This is why Christ came, because only He could perfectly keep the law and ultimately defeat sin and death, as death, which is the result of sin (Romans 6:23), could not hold Him. That’s why we must believe IN HIM to be saved; once you believe in Christ, your sins are eternally forgiven and you receive the GIFT of eternal salvation and the Holy Spirit, Who SEALS you unto the Day of Redemption (Ephesians 4:30). To be clear, we should not grieve the Holy Spirit, but we are sealed unto the Day of Redemption, which is the Rapture, which takes place before the tribulation. The Gospel is very simple: Believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ; He lived a life we could not, died a death we deserve, and rose from the dead, defeating both sin and death so that we could have eternal life via His imputed righteousness (this is ultimately Grace). I didn’t write this part in that comment, but I’m going to go back and add this…

@@Nighhhts That’s excellent notes. I even took some notes because I liked the way you worded some things. If I were defining the Gospel, I’d say something as follows: The Greek word for gospel, euangelion, means “the good news.” The good news is that salvation is a free gift from God and that our Lord Jesus conquered sin and death for us through His death on the Cross and resurrection from the dead. Jesus’ work on the Cross did 2 things for us. Jesus didn’t just take away our sins, but He also imputes to us His righteousness. We receive this free gift of salvation by faith in Jesus’ finished work on the Cross; and it is not by our efforts at all. I like stressing our new nature in Christ, because I think that is critical for people’s understanding that a Christian cannot lose their salvation. We have literally been changed. We are made up of body (flesh), soul (personality), and spirit (God’s breath of life). By faith, Jesus’ resurrection purified and made holy our spirits. He did nothing for our flesh. Our flesh still harbors our sin and by nature is always defiant against God. Jesus is going to raise up new bodies for us one day. Our soul (personality) is becoming sanctified (made more holy) through God’s discipline and our spiritual growth. Our soul is always battling between the desires of the flesh and the desires of our new spirit. Our spirit has already been made like Christ and is ready for Heaven since conversion. The Holy Spirit in us seals us for that day. Titus 3:3-5 says, "...He saved us not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior..." We had a literal rebirth of our spirits the moment we got saved. Ephesians 4:24 says, “…and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Your new self was created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness, which is why the new you is incapable of sinning (1 Jo 3:9). God gave you Jesus’ righteousness. Hebrews 10:10, and verse 14 say we have been made perfect and holy forever. We are a new creation in Christ. The old has gone; the new has come (2 Co. 5:17). Job 32:8 defines what our spirit is. It says, “But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.” It says that our spirit is the breath of the Almighty and this is what gives us understanding. Our spirit is what gives us understanding and connects our minds to God. Animals lack this. This is why humans are capable of prayer and understanding and animals are not. Recall when God created the animals, He spoke them into existence. He said, “Let there be sea…and land animals…” and it was so. When God got to Adam, He breathed His own breath into his nostrils the breath of life. We have God’s spirit in us. That is why we can understand who God is. Animals don’t have understanding because they were not created with the breath of the Almighty. Because of Adam’s sin, we are born with a contaminated body, soul, and spirit. Christ purifies our spirit because of our faith. When we drop our bodies in death, then our soul will no longer be under the influence of the flesh and we are immediately completely fit for Heaven without any purgatory or need for Christ to have die again to purify anything we might have done just prior to dying.

@@brianmatthews4323 This is talking about 2 things: our new nature in Christ, and how to spot an obvious Christian. The theme of 1 John is fellowship: i.e., abiding with God. Notice that it says that the believer “cannot sin.” It doesn’t say that they don’t continue to sin; rather, it says that they cannot sin. It is impossible for a believer to sin because God’s seed remains in him, and he cannot sin because he has been born of God. This is regarding your new nature in Christ. Romans 3:10 says that there is no one righteous not even one. Salvation requires perfection. It requires that we are righteous. No one is righteous. James said that if we break one law then we are guilty of breaking them all. Only our faith in Christ justifies us and imputes Jesus’ righteousness to our spirits. It is possible to be a prodigal son and fall out of fellowship and God's blessings, but you remain His son through your faith and are still saved. The only exception to this is that a Christian can lose their salvation only if they forgo the very faith that keeps them saved. So if a Christian next week decides to become an atheist, or Buddhist, or Jehovah's Witness for example, then they have forgone their faith and lost their salvation. What is the difference in living in sin and living under sin? Jesus. We as children of God are under sin and those living in sin are above us persecuting us while they live in sin hiding their sin in covetessness but we are in the light baring our sin. But it shall not always be this way for those who exalt themselves shall be abased and those who humble themselves shall be exalted

No one can be Sinless this side of Eternity. We are Justified being Sanctified waiting to be Glorified! A person who is Born again and Indwelled with the Holy Spirit Cannot live in Habitual SIN. @@jdaze1 John was an apostle to the circumcision (Galatians 2:9) along with Peter, and James. They were not writing to Paul's gentile audience in the Body of Christ, as that would violate their agreement with Paul (Galatians 2:9). Those who are "born of God" are the born again nation of Israel (Isaiah 66) who are going to keep God's law perfectly without stumbling at a single point (James 2:10). That's not you, you are not a nation of priests, you are not a holy nation. You do not understand the New Testament. Read Romans 16:25, and understand the two programs, the mystery revealed to Paul (the Body of Christ), and the prophecy program designed for the nation of Israel. Read Romans 11, understand the fullness of Israel, and the fullness of the Gentiles. Two programs, two groups, two destinies. One will rule the earth and the nations (Israel), one will rule the heavenly places and judge angels (The Body of Christ).

Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith his counted for righteousness. Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Luke 18:9-17 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein. John 6: 28-29 They said unto him, What shall we do, that we work the works of God? Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and i will raise him up at the last day. Say youre talking to someone who may be doing some things in their life that they shouldnt be, struggling with drugs, or anger, or lying, any sin you can think of, and you ask them if they believe they will go to Heaven, and they say yes because the trust in Jesus Christ, theyre set. I will grant you only God knows someone's heart, but if the tell you they believe in Christ, no matter what their works are good or bad, telling them theyre not really saved is not the right thing to do, because its not true.

Last year, I was so happy to have found Jesus and tried hard to live what you call a "holy life". I eventually got lazy, complacent, strayed away, and have been trying to return from it ever since. I felt like I was saved at the time. I don't know if I've blown it - I wilfully returned to my sin, and now I regret it. Some might say I was never saved in the first place, and others would say what you described above, that it doesn't matter due to God's grace. I'm just asking, what evidence do you have of your salvation if, after several years, you fall back? You can try to get back on your feet again, but there's no guarantee you won't fall again.

I can tell my story. I wasn't a criminal or drug addicted, but I had still many sins. I was lazy, addicted to the PC/Video games/p0rn, I ate a lot and unhealthy stuff, also I was angry and really disrespectful towards my parents and more. Then the hardest phase of my life came and I found God. I saw many miracles in a short period of time. Once I asked God if all is real, if Jesus is real. I wanted a sign. I stood up from the bench I was sitting on and walked for like 5 min and I saw written on the ground with chalk "Jesus Christ is real". During this time I was freed from my sins. I stopped eating too much, I ate healthy, I lost around 20kg in few weeks not even doing any sports, I saw women as they are, my lust was almost completely gone (except towards one girl), I didn't play video games and I read the Bible daily, went to church, the youth group, watched and read a lot about christianity. But sadly I fell back into sin few months later and for like two years I am struggling. But I know that with the help of God I can free myself again

Are these Christians back slid? Are they lost? Are they damned for eternity? Are they allowed to repent? Are they hopeless? What if they have lived with a heart condition as such for six months, or a year or two or five or twenty- five or more? 1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him Jude 1:8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, Matthew 15 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man Matthew 5 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. 21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

It's a slightly different perspective. What he's conveying is that when you truly believe, undergo a spiritual transformation through Christ's sacrifice, and are guided by the Holy Spirit, you'll experience a process of sanctification. It's essential to remember that we are saved by Jesus' work on the Cross, not through our own efforts, my friend. Whether we choose to grow in our faith by embracing the teachings of scripture or feel challenged by them is ultimately a personal choice, and it's up to you to decide.

Great teaching! When people believe they don't ever sin, that itself is a sin of a lack of humility. It results in psychological projection, blame-shifting, gaslighting, etc. It's much worse than it seems. We are in a fallen state while alive in this material realm & this is unavoidable. We all sin. What needs to change is our spirit / intent. This is a much more serious issue than it seems. Because people who believe they no longer sin at all are falsely equating themselves with the divine, which is the outcome of satanic doctrine. The effects of this are all negative.

Though my parents had nothing to do with my addiction they don’t have the slightest clue about drugs and addiction and finding out about my issues which I’d hidden from them was a huge shock and learning experience for them on what addiction looks like and how a child who they raised in church, instilled godly values in since I was a baby and gave the best possible opportunities to make wise choices could get involved in that sin and addiction. the sole responsibility for my addiction is on me, thankfully god is good and Christ is a lot stronger than addiction and hopefully by his grace many Other addicts will be saved from it aswell, though I’m sure other situations could be related to the way parents raised their children definitely and as the bible says it would be better to have a millstone tied around your kneck and thrown in the sea than to lead gods children astray

Romans 7 introduces the idea of dying to the life found in Romans 6. Romans 7 says " For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died." Paul was alive in Christ, living the Christian life, but tried to put himself back under the legal requirements of the law. Once a Christian does that, they die to the Christian life, and sin's power and death revives. How can this be? It is because the Christian was not saved by keeping the law (thou shall not do this, thou shall not do that), but was saved by grace through faith. The Christian then does not graduate from grace to law, that is going backwards, not forwards. When Paul tried to put himself back under a program of law, the grace the Christian relies on for life becomes of no effect, you are at that point severed from grace, as Paul warns in Galatians. Paul concludes Romans 7 by saying, it is no longer I who sin, but sin that lives in me. Paul has totally divorced himself from sin, realizing it is part of his sinful nature and flesh, and Paul then says "who shall deliver me from this body of this death?", referring to the corrupt body in which sin dwells that he has not yet escaped from. Paul then thanks God for Jesus Christ. To understand Romans 6 and 7 to be saying that the Christian who sins in their body is lost is a total misunderstanding of salvation and putting Christians back under a law program, the law of sin and death. We are under the law of the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ, which is not by law but by grace through faith in the work of Christ. Christ has so freed me from sin, that is no longer I who sin, it is my flesh. I am crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live. I am circumcised from my flesh. How can I then sin and be guilty of sin? Paul goes on in Romans 8 to explain, how nothing can now separate us from the love of God. Nothing in this life, nothing in the next life, nothing on earth, nothing in heaven, nothing in all creation (including sin) can separate us from the love of God in Christ. The question is, are you in Christ today? Have you trusted in his death and resurrection as the basis for your salvation, not your own works, your own repentance, your own ability to resist temptation or keep the law of God?

Romans 7, brief summary: Romans 7:1: "Know ye not, brethren (for I speak to them that know the law), how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?" Paul begins by addressing those who understand the Mosaic law. He points out that the law has authority over a person for their entire life. Romans 7:2: "For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband." Paul uses the analogy of marriage to illustrate how a person is bound by the law as long as they are alive, but death (which symbolizes Christ's work on the cross) can free them from the law's dominion. Romans 7:3: "So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man." This verse continues the marriage analogy, emphasizing that if a woman marries another man while her husband is alive, it's considered adultery. But if her husband is dead, she is free from that law, and her remarriage is not adultery. Romans 7:4: "Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God." Paul relates the analogy to believers, explaining that they have become "dead to the law" through Christ's sacrifice. They are now free to be united with Christ, producing spiritual fruit that honors God. Romans 7:5: "For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death." Paul acknowledges that, in their previous sinful state, people's sinful desires were stirred by the law, leading to actions that resulted in spiritual death. Romans 7:6: "But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter." Paul underscores that believers have been delivered from the law's condemnation through Christ's work. Now they serve in a new way-by the Spirit of God, not merely following the external demands of the law. Romans 7:7: "What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet." Paul clarifies that the law itself is not sinful. In fact, it serves to reveal and define sin. He gives an example, citing the commandment against coveting. Romans 7:8: "But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law, sin was dead." Paul explains that sin exploits the law to stir up sinful desires within us. In the absence of the law, sin might not have been as apparent or recognized. Romans 7:9: "For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died." Paul reflects on a time when he was unaware of his sinful nature before he fully understood the commandments. When the law was revealed to him, he became aware of his sinfulness and, in a spiritual sense, "died" to his former self. Romans 7:10: "And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death." Paul acknowledges that the law, which was meant to lead to life by showing the right path, often resulted in a realization of sin and spiritual death, highlighting humanity's inability to perfectly keep the law. Romans 7:11: "For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me." Paul reiterates that sin deceived him, making him aware of his sinful nature and its consequences. It's as if sin used the commandment to bring about spiritual death. Romans 7:12: "Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." Despite its ability to reveal sin, Paul affirms that the law is holy, just, and good. It reflects God's righteous standards and is not the source of sin but rather a revealer of it. Romans 7:13: "Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful." Paul clarifies that the law itself is not the cause of death, but sin used it to reveal its sinful nature more clearly, making it exceedingly sinful in human eyes. Romans 7:14: "For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin." Paul acknowledges the spirituality and goodness of the law but contrasts it with the human condition-being "carnal" and enslaved to sin. He is highlighting the struggle between the law's righteous demands and human weakness. Romans 7:15: "For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I." Paul begins to describe the internal struggle that many believers face. He confesses the tension between wanting to do what is right (in line with the law) and yet doing what he hates (sinning). Romans 7:16: "If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good." In acknowledging the inner conflict, Paul affirms the law's goodness, recognizing that it aligns with his desire to do what is right. Romans 7:17: "Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me." Paul starts to separate his true self, which desires to follow God's law, from the sin that resides within him. He makes a distinction between his new nature in Christ and the remnants of his sinful nature. Romans 7:18: "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not." Paul emphasizes that there is no inherent goodness within his sinful nature (the flesh), even though he desires to do what is right. He acknowledges the challenge of aligning his actions with his good intentions. Romans 7:19: "For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do." Paul further elaborates on the inner conflict, explaining the disconnect between his desires to do good and the reality of committing actions that he wants to avoid. Romans 7:20: "Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me." Paul repeats that the sinful actions do not reflect his true self but are the result of the sin dwelling within him. This is a recognition of the ongoing struggle between the old nature and the new nature in Christ. Romans 7:21: "I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me." Paul identifies a pattern-a law, if you will-wherein, despite his intentions to do good, he experiences the presence of evil within himself, highlighting the ongoing battle. Romans 7:22: "For I delight in the law of God after the inward man." Paul expresses his love and appreciation for God's law, which aligns with his inner spiritual self (the inward man). This affirms his desire to follow God's commands. Romans 7:23: "But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." Paul continues to describe the conflict within himself, noting the struggle between the law of his mind (his desire to obey God's law) and the law of sin in his physical members (his body), which takes him captive. Romans 7:24: "O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" Paul expresses his inner turmoil and the desperation he feels in the face of his own sinful nature. He recognizes the need for deliverance from this ongoing struggle. Romans 7:25: "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin." Paul concludes this chapter by acknowledging that deliverance comes through Jesus Christ. While he still struggles with the flesh and the law of sin, he can serve the law of God with his mind, indicating his continuing commitment to obey God's commands despite the ongoing struggle with sin. In Romans 7, Paul's internal struggle between the desire to do good and the reality of sin, emphasizing the need for deliverance through Christ. It's a chapter that resonates with many believers who recognize the ongoing battle between their sinful nature and their new life in Christ.

It saddens me when I hear of people who profess to be Christian and then fight for sin by saying we will always sin. This is an example of justifying the flesh to keep on sinning. Jesus promised that with every temptation he would provide a way of escape so that we would be able to endure and overcome it. Jesus was not lying! I see this especially in areas of immoral sin where people say they keep falling into it. That is simply people lying to themselves, they are not falling into it, they are purposely choosing it when tempted. The reason overcoming is so hard for these people is because they are double minded. They want their sin and salvation too. They will be horrified to learn at judgement what will happen to them unless they truly repent. The apostles tell us we need to die to ourselves and become slaves of God as this is God’s will for us. It is very clear we are not our own anymore as we were brought with a price. Besides Jesus makes a much better Lord of my life than I ever could and his desires for us are always is out of love. I believe we may be in the last days before Jesus returns so there is very little time left. My brothers and sisters, please do not make the mistake that somehow you are saved while still turning back to your sins. There are very evil doctrines circulating around that appear to be godly and Christian but are the doctrines of demons. A key statement said by “Christian” people who are not really Christian is “I am always going to sin in this life”. I know that saying these things makes me unpopular, not that I care in the least about popularity, but it is more loving to tell the truth than stand by and say nothing at all. I pray that those who read this will stop and consider their own standing before God and let their own conscience convict or excuse them. There is little time left.

@@davidallin6909 Interesting you did not address what I said in the post but immediately went to the idea sinlessness. We will always have our body until we go to be with Jesus which is corrupt. Temptations to sin will always be with us, but if you are a new creation in Christ, Sin no longer has power over you and you can and must resist. God promised that he will provide a way of escape and will not let you be tempted beyond that which you are able. I testify that this is absolutely true in every situation. Sanctification is the process that as you mature in Christ and overcome sin that you are aware of, God shows us in a deeper level the depths of our sinful flesh and we continue to overcome so we actually become more and more like Jesus. I am not at all saying that you must be sinless to enter heaven. Jesus died for our sins and only thru his grace and our faith in Him can we be saved. I am addressing the notion that making an excuse for sin instead of dying to your self is acceptable to God. The big lie is thinking I am always going to sin and I am still ok so I don’t actually need to die to self and become a slave of Christ. My question to you is, have you died to your self and surrendered yourself to God?

I'm glad you brought this up, I was just listening to one of my favorite bible teachers, Bruce Smith, also talk about sharing our testimony. He brought up an interesting challenge that can happen. You see we as Christians often do share our testimony like you have, about how GOD saved us from a life of sin. But there are those who say "Buddha saved me from evil" or "Islam has made me pure, I no longer lust after women" people do claim that their religion has saved them. But I am glad you said look at them to see if they are truly saved. James 2 14 shows good works is the product of good faith, therefore we can judge if someone is truly saved by their works. So even though muslims, and buddhists, and whatever claim to be better people because of their religion, we simply have to judge them based on their works, adherence to truth, etc. Because even the pharisees could claim "we dont fornicate, we dont get drunk, we follow the law to the tee and we are righteous" but they were not, they didnt take care of their parents, they criticized Jesus for healing on the sabbath. Muslims can claim to be pure, but if they deny Jesus, if they persecute, do evil, etc. Then you know their faith is bogus. Of course many will judge Christianity by the same standard saying "Christians do evil, they're hypocrites, therefore Christianity is false" is the wrong way to judge it, because ultimately whether or not a person feels like their religion is saving them or has changed them for the better is not how we should judge truth. The truth is the ultimate deciding factor in why a religion is right. Christianity is historically correct, its lessons are true, its prophecies are true they really were fulfilled. I am in no way denying testimony, we need to hear it and share it, but many will testify against us. Ultimately we have the truth, Jesus Christ on our side, and that makes us unstoppable and truly saved, not superficially saved.

There is not always a change evident in believers. Some remain carnal, and do not do any works, but they are still saved. 1 Corinthians 3:15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as by fire.” If a person says they’re saved and believes in Jesus, we should be careful to avoid being fruit inspectors to prove to ourselves that they aren’t saved. There are 2 kinds of sinning. Premeditated sin and spontaneous sin. Premeditated is sin you repent from, but already know you are going to do it again. Premeditated sin is dangerous to our soul. Spontaneous is the kind of sin that blindsides you. And you have every intention, as you confess, of waging war against it, and you aim by the power of the Holy Spirit to defeat it. Our sin starts to fall away as we get stronger in Christ... We walk in the spirit. Prayer and reading the Word are essential.
