@@kev1593 I would not go with 5.45 due to ammo sourcing being infinitely better for .223/5.56. Can't carry as much ammo for a 12gauge as a 22LR, and the 22LR bolt can carry more ammo. twin barrel 12gauge is simple and reliable though, mechanically, much like the 22LR bolt action. But, to each his own. Everyone has their reasons, their preferences, and there are many correct answers to such questions.

Back in baltimore i had never seen a gun on a person unless it was a robbery. Moved to Texas and i see people carrying ARs, 1911s, glocks, AKs and its usually a conversation starter. Maybe not in places like Austin or Dallas, but even there youll see people open carrying pistols still.

As a Texan in Fort Worth I can say your statements are on point. Austin and other cities except Fort Worth lean a little to the left but as soon as you get out of the cities you definitely start seeing many Texans with firearms. I own 50 myself. 😂😂😂

Yes, I'm sure...and I'll bet gun crime in your new area of Texas is far less than it ever was in Baltimore, too. That speaks volumes to the benefits of having armed, responsible citizens. Even if people don't open carry...when criminals KNOW that almost everyone in the area has a gun on them, or near them (glovebox, etc.) it's an excellent deterrent for preventing violent crime. Thanks for sharing your observation!

The Glock 19 answer is legit. I am in the same boat for many of the same reasons. The ability to conceal, easily carry and have it on you no matter what all give the handgun option an advantage. Wearing a hip holster is a lot easier than slinging a rifle around while doing hard labor. Just my .02. I am also interested in Alec's choice as it seems like you would look for a KAV, DD, LWRC, BCM or something along those lines if you are going to only have one. But, I think he is on to something when it comes to a particular tier where you no longer sacrifice reliability. Just features and possibly weight. Great discussion guys.

A CMMG Banshee 300 Mk10. Could conceal in a backpack. 10mm has a wide variety of loadings that run in power anywhere from .40 small and weak to a bit stronger than .357 mag. The 8 inch barrel extends the usable range quite a bit. Easily usable for home defense/personal defense or hunting. Takes glock mags. And 10mm is much easier to get than it used to be. At least online it is.

I basically started out my collection with the same concept matt had about conversion kits and calibers so I have the 22, the 5.56, and the 7.62 kits for my AR-15. So... Headstart... But I also really like the versatility I have with my 12 gauge and different shell loads. The 12 gauge diversity, of course, more for utility. And the AR variants for a scavenging survivalist availability. BUUUUTT NOOOOWW....... the issue raised by Clint of the EDC firearm (for which I have a 9mm that fills that goes with me EVERYWHERE) that missed consideration. So now I'm curious to see if I go back to the drawing board on my choices, or we find out just how compact I can make this AR. Thanks alot guys for asking the big questions and putting out the good content!

I would have to pick either my FNS-9 since it is amazing and was my first gun and has never had an issue with any of my lead handloads. Or a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull with a 5.5 inch barrel. It can also use 45 Colt and Scofield for human defense, it can reasonably be concealed, and it can be scoped if necessary. Unfortunately, I have never shot one so I cannot choose it for certain just yet.

My P229 Legion goes EVERYWHERE with me and although its not my favorite of my pistols, its one I'm very proficient with and one im comfortable carrying every day. In SHTF though.......its a tough choice. I love my Daniel Defense M4V7P, chambered in 300blk but being an AR i can change uppers as needed.....that being said my Arsenal SAM7 keeps lobbying for my top spot.. but I'm still thinking Daniel Defense. Its bomb proof, accurate, short and light.

One pistol and one long gun is hard enough. One period is something else. Edit: I feel like a carry pistol is almost mandatory so I like Clint's choice, but if actually fighting was neccessary a pistol leaves something to be desired. You can hunt with certain pistol calibers but your range is still limited. Good thought exercise.

My personal choice is the CMMG Banshee 200 in .45 ACP. It's 8 inch barrel (as opposed to the 5 inch barrel of the 300) combined with the caliber means you have decent stopping power and accuracy at close-to-mid-range while still being a nice compact package with lots of customizability due to it's nature as an AR-15-style platform.

It can't do it all. Because you can't conceal carry it. I'd be with you if it were "only one rifle", although I'd pick a harder hitting cartridge than 5.56, without worrying about ammo cost. But, if it's truly one gun, it has to be a pistol, concealed carry and self defense is the single most important consideration. I'd have to say a compact to full size pistol, probably in 10mm, and while obviously not ideal, I could hunt up to whitetails with it.

The AR is the overall best rifle out there for a number of reasons. It's the most end user modifiable (modularity), serviceable and repairable (with commonly available tools) rifle out there with good reliability, ergos, parts availability and selection (new, used or scavenged), it's light and made with weather resistant materials, accurate and a plentiful supply of ammo available on the market or from private holdings or defeated opponents.

Looking at it, I can only think of the IWI X95 "MTAR" if it's a rifle and for the pistol, CZ P-07. I pick the X95 is because not only is it versatile with modifications as mods that fits the AR platform would fit on the X95, it would take mags the AR uses too be it Magpul or normal STANAG mags which is superbly important if SHTF situation comes by and mags are rare. Besides, the X95 is a bullpup which means that it has a full "16 barrel in a length of a fully extended MP5 with the collapsible stock against a "12.5 AR and still holds more terminal velocity against the AR due to a longer barrel. Also, with it being that short due to it being bullpup and me being Asian, I can carry it around like it's nothing and shoot out of places like it's nothing be it in a car, in a van, around corners, breaching into buildings waaay easier that a protruding AR. Plus, hey... IWI man. Their shit don't break. If we can choose only one gun, I would have picked the CZ P-07 in a heartbeat. I know it would make more sense to pick a P-10C but I just trust hammerfire pistols more having been with them during my service (I carried a HK P30) and had a CZ-75B and Glock 17 respectively when I was still in the US. I like the CZ better is because I just know they worked flawlessly and CZ's support is pretty good for a gun market where Glock is dominating and lights attachment that's compatible with the Glocks would work too for the P-series. The only issue the CZ would face would be mags but most CZ series mags share compatibility which makes it pretty nice to have.

Only One Gun: "Today's" Life = Agree 100% with Clint...Glock 19. 15 years ago, it'd have been a Beretta 92, but Glock wins nowadays due to the versatility and availability. "SHTF" Life = 50/50 With Matt & Alec. I'd have the 16" AR with a 10X fixed-power rifle optic for the added velocity and range of hunting needs, AND 45-mount iron sights for closer-in. **TBH, if I'm in a situation where having a 12.5 vs. a 16 would truly be a life or death benefit CQB-wise, I'm probably dead anyway.
@kasper_429
@kasper_429 2 жыл бұрын
IMO, 12.5" is the best barrel length for an AR. Unless you live in the Midwest or somewhere else where everything's flat and you'd be taking shots at very long ranges (≥ 500-1000 yards) often, you don't really need a 16" AR. 12.5" does everything you'd need it to within around ~400 yards with the right ammo and right optic for the situation. As with everything that involves guns, you should get training to know how to most effectively employ them in different situations. Practice is king.

@@kasper_429 Thanks, but I'm quite well trained with my firearms, and I do currently own 7", 10" and 12.5" AR "Pistols" in addition to several 16" rifles. They all have their uses, but realistically, that 3.5" of extra maneuverability with my 12.5" vs. my 16" won't make a life-or-death difference in a CQB situation for me or 99.9% of other people. As for yardage, sure, a 12.5" CAN reach out to 400 yards, but with 4.6 MOA (1.4MIL) more drop than a 16", and inherently less overall accuracy as well. Most critically important is that you lose over 130ft./lb. of energy at a mere 100 yards with a 12.5" vs. a 16". That loss of energy will make a huge difference for hunted game or defense situations. Hypothetically, if I were only able to have ONE gun in a SHTF situation, I'll stick with my 16" for those reasons. You do you, Man.

A smith and wesson mp9 shield for carry and an mp9 2.0 full size as my home or backpack gun. I got an mck it goes in so it's basically a baby carbine/sbr. Next I'll be getting a shotgun and I'm done with guns for a while. I just want a boog gun, carry gun, self defense gun, a small game rifle, and a main hunting shotgun. I'm a simple guy so I don't really buy too many things I don't plan on using.

Small enough to conceal if needed, powerful enough to take care of any realistic threat, big enough to shoot out to 200 yards. She is low maintenance and reliable as all shit. But for a conceal carry, all the time on me type of shit, I'd have to agree with the Glock 19 and a MCK chassis to go with it.
