The esteemed psychologist Abraham Maslow believed we have an inner core guiding us towards our deepest values in life.
But this inner core is delicate and can be overpowered by societal pressure and the inputs of others. Mainly because, since children, we’ve been imitating others.
Maslow believed in the same way as an acorn was guided to become an oak tree, so too we are guided by this inner core towards self-actualisation.
So if these value intuitions are what lead to a meaningful life, but they’re incredibly delicate, how can we uncover and protect them?

So true, most adopts friends, & families opinions, they're scared to think outside the box, they're limited to such mass by this, they go through life never being open minded, so quick to judge not taking a step back and thinking why said person might be saying or doing such thing.

Great video. I'm 26, so still young, but getting out of that early 20's stage of life where you're first figuring things out for yourself. I remember at 22 becoming aware that I really lacked a value system, and knew I need to work to find what I truly believed in and how I should be as a person. Part of this process was writing them down, so they were established and therefore must be followed. Does that mean I always follow them strictly? Not always, sometimes you forget and make poor decisions. That's life. But especially in times of uncertainty, its a good tool to fall back on, looking at what you truly value or believe is right, and act accordingly. I think its helped me mature a bit and live a life that feels more self-driven. Great video and great advice.
