Today we're going to be looking at one of the most charismatic people in the world, and that person is Craig Ferguson.
Craig Ferguson, at the beginning of each interview, would rip up the pre-interview questions, and basically ad-lib. So today we're going to look at what we can learn from him, and how you can bring this type of spontaneity to your own life.
⏰TIMESTAMPS⏰
1:53 - #1: Lower your filter.
2:05 - #2: Don't answer literally all the time.
2:28 - #2.5: Enjoy yourself and laugh.
2:47 - #3: Make your jokes complimentary.
3:13 - #4: Purposeful misinterpretation.
4:01 - #5: Don't rush your jokes.
5:33 - #6: Playfully self deprecate.
6:16 - #6.5: Be enthusiastic with your compliments.
6:35 - #7: The Rolodex method.

1: Lower your Filter 2: Dont be literal - be playful with the conversation and give answers that are more just fun for you to say, rather than necessarily answering the questions directly. If the asker really wants to know, they'll ask again, but often its more fun to give a non-answer that directs the conversation in a fun/ridiculous direction. Be literal when you need to be/ the asker is seriously insisting, but otherwise just play around. 2.5: Be playful and relaxed - enjoy yourself and laugh 3: Make your jokes kind/flattering/complimentary 4: Purposely misinterpet what the other person is saying and roll with it for a while. Play the fool. 5: Don't rush your jokes. 6: Rolodex method / make jokes that relate to what was previously discussed. 7: Playfully Self-deprecate. Make a joke of the compliment (playfully disarm compliments directed at you without making people think you hate yourself) 8: Be Enthusiastic with your compliments. Try to be excited for the conversation even if you're tired/don't like the person. Putting a bit of enthusiasm in has a higher probability of making the conversation more fun for both of you, even if you arent the best of friends. 9: dont be too stressed about making "different" jokes each time, just enjoy the conversation by playing with language and what was previously said. Not every step was in the opening question list, but I think I summarize most of what was said.

Edit: also, my comment was 240 words, most essays are 1500 words, where each paragraph is 200 words. Most summaries are 1 paragraph, so its not long in that regard either. If english isnt your first language I understand the difficulty, but its really not that long, and it covers everything that was said.

Complimenting fashion choices over physical features is incredibly smart. The subtext changes from "I noticed something attractive about you that is exceedingly obvious and not under your control" to "you have made good choices and have a good sense of fashion", which is obviously a much more significant compliment.

In a sense yes because it removes the focus from the superficial as well as the risk of coming across as cliche/creepy and what have you, but people are much more emotionally attached to their physical appearance than their style, so if it is genuine, timely, appropriate and lands, a physical compliment has more impact in my opinion.

Agreed. The energy you put off helps people feel more comfortable. I've also noticed, this allows for more "hit or miss" experiences-with a larger margin of error. If someone trust that your intentions are well meaning and for the sake of setting up a positive atmosphere--people can excuse failed jokes or bad deliveries This has pros and cons. This can be why some "likeable" people get less slack for some "bad" stuff they say. The context of believing everything someone says is a joke and lighthearted can sometimes mask real negative traits. It also causes a disconnect where something literal/serious you say can be taken lighthearted. Sometimes it's nice to effortlessly make people laugh, but sometimes it's lonely having no one that wants to make you feel comfortable and valued. Or that you will have trouble being taken serious b/c ppl think you'll just be able to bounce back to being "bubbly and outgoing"-thinking that's your personality trope

I'm 20 read, How to Win Friends and Influence People ° Fine Art of Small Talk ° Social Engineering didn't feel or notice changes on me not anything at all, but after 1 year forcing myself to be out there get involved 1st hand experience especially entering college adapting to new environment is pretty crazy, me from silent country side to busy city. It's been almost 2 yrs since I read the books but some things makes more sense now and I can open my mouth and make movements the memories of the books sparks in my head and gives me hint. It comes from toughtful decisions and less immature, insensitive, impulsive reply,response, reaction. Simply reading books put me slightly into higher advantage, I'm really happy for being a dckhead at young age, did some wrongs, hated by people who nurtured me to the point I'm like a cockroach they're keeping cause they have no choice only being supported on education but I don't feel the warmth being a family member to the point I was in a situation I just had to learn human relations. Maybe the people who've known since childhood can never be okay with me but new people on the outside I can build better relationship The warmth, healthy human communication, relationship I can't get from the family, I will build anew identity and and be better at it on making outside, social connections.

I’m not panning other greats, but those three were exceptional in their own ways. Kudos for adding a summary and time stamps to the description. Many KZfaq creators will publish a video of, say, “ten basic safety tips for motorcyclists” and not share even a summary list, much less quick time stamps to refer back to them.

As someone who's always been considered and labeled charismatic, this channel helped me fine tune all the tricks up my sleeve that i'd initially considered instinctive, into a full quiver of laughter and fun. Craig Ferguson has long been a inspiration, however you're appreciation of Ferguson throughout multiple videos provides massive validation..... All this is a really long way of saying 'cheers I like your channel', actively recommend it to anyone struggling with social interaction, and i'm legitimately considering investing in myself with your full online course.

Your introduction/exposition on Craig is what makes him hands down the best late night show of all time imo. I can’t speak on someone like Carson since it’s out of my time and I don’t have to much knowledge on they guy. The only other late night show host I saw come close to Craig’s was Conan.

Yes, it will. So just don't. Enjoy the videos, the analyses and the thoughts. And that's it. Don't force yourself to apply the stuff. After a while go out, meet people and be yourself, even if that means to sit in the corner quietly. And you will discover in a while or after few nights you are using the techniques you learned and you are not pushing yourself to do so. Or at least that's how it goes for me.

I worked with a guy who would CONSTANTLY do the purposeful misinterpretation, and it WAS ALWAYS FUNNY - he would often do it in this one particular way where as soon as you said something to him he would repeat it back at you but all jumbled up or misunderstood and with a confused expression, and then you'd repeat yourself reflexively and he would do it again until you realise he's pulling your damn leg for the 1000th time. One of the funniest and most charismatic people I've been around.
@pootytang69
@pootytang69 3 жыл бұрын
@yellowleaf Yup - it is both lovable and incredibly infuriating sometimes - but when they get that look of glee in their eyes over having got one over on you again, you can't help but laugh at it. The guy I knew would have mood swings and I think humour was a way of him deflecting and repressing how he was really feeling a lot of the time - and I got the sense he wouldn't know who he was to other people if he wasn't someone who was making them laugh. Both seem to have a lot of the energy of the trickster archetype. lol funny story with the shovel!
