Yea, I totally agree. There was one book series, I enjoyed reading and at times it was always a total thrill to read it. The book series is about Alex Rider, some teen agent.

As a kid (also fat, black, in a white area, decent amounts of isolation), books were the only way I could give myself entertainment at school. I viewed it as getting away w/ watching a movie while looking sophisticated. Now, I get to use that smug superiority to laugh at the non-reading peons. If I had to say my greatest achievment, it wouldn't be going to college, or overcoming deaths in my family. It would be fully catching up to volume 10 of The Wandering Inn (great fantasy book series btw, highly reccomend) and the millions of read words, hours of sleep and moments of eating lost to make it happen. Fr though, I think so many people hate reading, is that even beyond being conditioned by childhood, they're conditioned by social media to think that nothing can be as interesting as the stimulus shakers like insta reels. If people want entertainment, books put in work, and last a long time if you find the good ones. I have some theories on why people stick to socials, but I'll keep this comment sort and just say, good vid. Here's a sub.

Wow, well said brother (Todo voice). But on a real note, it's great to hear, that reading was a great outlet for you to endure the reality of growing up in a white society. Nothing against white people of course, but... it's not easy at times, to put it simply. Thanks for the sub, I'll do my best to keep delivering good content!! 🫡

Audiobooks are also a great way to get into reading. Becuase you can basically have them on when you do other stuff. Doing the dishes? Listen to a chapter of an audiobook while you do it. and as you said you have to want to engage with a piece of litterature or you will never get much out of it. I always loved reading but I recognize the apathy toward reading things someone else thinks you should read. I grew up reading fatnasy and my dad hates sci-fi and fantasy because he grew up in an age when it wasnt seen as serious litterature. I still think I have some of the books my dad wanted me to read in my bookshelf, who knows maybe one day I will read them but when I do it'll be because it was my choice.

I mean Audiobooks are nice, my only problem tho is, that I can't follow them as closely. When I am reading the words myself it sticks better and I feel like I get through quicker. And I get your apathy, my dad literally hit me for reading a book I wanted to read... take your time if you feel like reading it, then go ahead.

I had a similar journey on the road to reading. There was a book I wanted to read on King Tut, Pharaoh, I loved reading it but never finished it since I tried to read it in class. After that it was always dry and boring non-fiction or base line fiction books for AP/Honors classes until I read The Da Vinci Code. After that Reading is my favorite past time and ereaders are amazing to use to read by a lake, in a park or at your local coffee shop. You're right that I think its because people are conditioned and I think they have not found the book that grabs their attention.

So yeah, school is to blame. Schools basically demand you read books they hand out, specifically for learning or course topic before you can decide to read books you would be interested in. Kids would associate reading with the boring time they felt when made to read something they’re not interested in.

Exactly, school kills passion, imagination and creativity. All the people who created the math, physics, chem, biology discoveries were people who followed their passion. If all the great scientists in the world were put in modern day schools, less than half of them would have come out with the passions that led them to become great scientists

Ever since I was a child all the way through highschool and my mid 20s I loved reading. Now that I'm 30 it doesn't bring me the same enjoyment that it did back then. Ever since I could afford unlimited Internet for my phone and laptop i just find myself staring at a screen 24/7 when I'm not spending time with my girl. I write songs for her and books without issue but when it comes to reading them it's just so hard for me now.

Think precisely, if you really need unlimited Internet... Since u r 30 and probably have a stable income it's easy to afford that and it might seem convenient, but it may further support some underlying phone/Internet addiction, you might have. Not saying u have it, it's just a possibility. But yea, find some time to read more, if u need to, sounds like u r in a pretty good place brother!

School and my parents made me not like reading. My mom knew reading was good for me and forced me to read the first Percy Jackson book. I never really enjoyed reading since my environment made it feel like studying. I have trouble visualizing the actions in the story, and keeping plotlines and nuances in my head while I read. I've tried reading some comics for visuals and some novels that actually interests me. But it still feels like pulling teeth any time I sit down to read.

I'm telling you, it's crazy how similar we are... But it doesn't have to be forever like this. You are taking the right steps, by finding something for you, that is easy to read. I would go a step further tho and find something, that has a valuable effect for you. That doesn't mean, that you have to read a super informative book, the value can stem from either something entertaining from something that enhances your knowledge or from something that boosts your wisdom. The book I was talking ab at the end literally cured my heart break, that's why this positive experience motivated me to read more books. I started 5 books since then and finished one of them. It really comes down to reconditioning your brain again so you like reading. I might do another video on that, so like the comment if you are interested in that, or answer, however you like :)

@@Phil3m0nn I've found my comfort zone with Manga since the illustrations and visuals help me understand what's happening, and reading at my local library. But I've tried reading novels purely for the enjoyment of the plot or philosophical themes, Dune has been on my list but that feels intimidating to read. I still wanted to read something tough but engaging for me to start reading again, so I committed to reading "House of Leaves" to get back into reading. It's been fun at my own pace, but my attention span and keeping all the story beats/characters in my head makes it hard to keep track of. I'll definitely keep at it and find ways to push myself with reading

Here's why I don't read: bad eyesight, hate glasses they're too painful, people won't leave me alone, house is noisy, dog wants attention, autism makes reading difficult especially when writers write difficult words and expect the readers to be able to read/pronounce it no problem with complete understanding (nope!). Anything I can listen to is my speed.
@Phil3m0nn
@Phil3m0nn 4 ай бұрын
Many obstacles there for you I see, but maybe u can try to listen to audiobooks? Plus I heard that glasses are actually very beneficial for eye sight, but I get your viewpoint, my sister is legally blind without her glasses and she doesn't like wearing them as well... And the difficult words are actually something I personally find nice, because I like having a vast vocabulary, it's nice being able to use different words in order to deliver ur message, makes it less repetitive I guess. Ultimately, what I would suggest you do is to look, if the obstacles you are facing can be avoided or removed, and if that's not possible, find a way to cope with them better. Change your perspective on the hard words u don't like for instance. I don't know much about the autism spectrum, but that's something you probably should discuss with your therapist... I think you should have one, if you have autism, lemme know what u think and if my viewpoints make sense to you, I am actually very interested. Best of luck bro😁
