No one wants to clean the bathroom, but we all enjoy and appreciate it when the bathroom is clean. It may be surprising, but there are many ways you can cut the time you spend cleaning and have a cleaner bathroom. You don't have to rush out and buy fancy products or commercial cleaners.
All you need are these 6 simple cleaning tips to keep your bathroom cleaner without the use of harsh chemicals. In no time at all and at very little added cost, your bathroom will be fresh and sparkling.
1.Clean the tank
How often do you open the tank of your toilet and peak inside?
if you take a look at the depth it’s a breeding ground for hard water stains, mold, mildew and bacteria. So whenever you start your toilet cleaning endeavors, start with the water tank to help keep your toilet bowl cleaner between uses. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the tank. Allow to sit while you clean. Then flush 2-3 times to rinse out the tank.
2.Make This Natural Toilet Cleaner
In a glass bowl, mix together ½ cup Baking Soda, 10-15 drops of lemon essential oil and 1 cup of vinegar. Vinegar react with the baking soda for a great foaming action in your bowl. Pour the mixture into your toilet bowl and give the bowl a good scrub with your toilet brush. You’ll love the smell of lemon while doing the dirty job which makes cleaning toilets much more bearable.
3.Use vinegar to remove hard water stains
Hard water leaves a visible build up around the handles of your bathroom taps that is almost impossible to remove. Something as simple as using pure vinegar would remove the unsightly buildup from your bathroom faucets. Simply soak paper towels in vinegar and wrap them around the problem areas for 10 minutes before rinsing with water.
4.Vacuum the exhaust fan
Unless you look up, you probably don't remember to clean your bathroom exhaust fan very often. Dust can build up and prevent it from working well. All you need to do is give it a quick vacuum. If it's been a while between cleanings, you may need to give the cover a quick scrub under running water to get it looking like new again.
5.Whiten your grout
You don't need bleach or other harsh chemicals to return your grout to a sparkling white. All you need to clean grout is baking soda, vinegar and a small scrub brush or toothbrush. The cleaners are safe enough, you can even recruit your children to help.
6.Clean the tub with no scrubbing
Getting down on your hands and knees to scrub the tub is a huge task. Soap scum, hard water deposits, rust stains are not easy to deal with you no longer have to scrub. simply uses a combination of cleaning vinegar and Dawn dish soap to clean your tub without scrubbing. Heat the vinegar in the microwave for 1 minute. Pour both ingredients into a plastic spray bottle and spray evenly over the tub. In 30 minutes to 1 hour, come back and use a cleaning rag to wipe away all the grime and you’ll be amazed with the results.

When I run white vinegar through the coffee pot to clean it, I then take that vinegar and pour it into the toilet tank. (Flush first) That way you get two uses out of it instead of one.

For tub/shower: equal parts vinegar and blue Dawn dishsoap (you can add water to make it less thick), heat nice and warm in microwave, spray on tub/shower with spray bottle. Let sit for 30-60 minutes. Rinse, scrub lightly with a clean cloth, rinse again. I've done it on plastic, ceramic tub, ceramic tile....works great with minimal effort.

I'm glad I don't have to deal with cleaning toilets, bathrooms, mowing the lawn and so on, for the next 11 years. "Would you like to dust and polish all the furniture, or scrub the shower?" kind of choice. They've all turned out well able to budget and keep a tidy house. Knowing how to do something well, and looking at your handiwork with pride, isn't a bad thing to teach your kids. They've all been able to cook a family meal since age ten too. Most of the talk here is about the vinegar, but baking powder and bicarbonate of soda on their own are great cleaners. Either one works well if you've got something badly burned onto a saucepan or frying pan. Put a tiny amount of water in the pan and then sprinkle on the powder and let it sit. The dirtier it gets in colour, the more it's reacted to the burned material. After a short while, you can just wipe the burned stuff off easily - no scrubbing. If the pan is just blackened, but with nothing cooked on, vinegar is better. It dissolves the blackening and leaves the pan like new.

You wrote, "Thanks for reminding me there's an alternative to chemicals" Guess what, CH3COOH. (Vinegar) and NaHCO3 (baking soda) are two chemicals! Which when added together releases lots of CO2 (greenhouse gas) into the air + Water + Na CH3COO (This is the chemical that is used to give potato crisps their Salt and Vinegar flavour). So what you are recommending to people is to scrub their homes with water and Salt and Vinegar flavoring after polluting the atmosphere with more Greenhouse gases.

Vinegar is an acid, but pretty mild and safe. It's effective on hard water deposits because it basically melts them. If you scout around your grocery store in the cleaning aisle, you'll find cleaning vinegar much cheaper than dietary (eatin' vinegar is 5% concentration; cleaning is 6%). Be a little careful slinging the stuff around because, mild it is, but acid it is. BTW, a drop of vinegar, applied to automobile window washer sprayer, will take off hard water salts. Rinse thoroughly after a few minutes, and keep the vinegar off any other surface (I use a toothpick to wet the sprayer).

Can someone please explain to me why everyone mixes baking soda and vinegar together and then cleans with it? I mean, after they are mixed, you neutralize them and you are pretty much left with salt water. I can see polishing or scrubbing with baking soda, and trying to break stuff down with the acidity of vinegar...but why mix them? Fizzing and foaming does not inherently mean you are cleaning. The only time this seems to make sense to me is if you just need some rapidly expanding gasses to move something that is already broken down. Hmm...I'm open to fact-based education on this.

I too add vinegar to the laundry. It also reduces the need for softener, since neutralizing the minerals also makes the clothes feel softer w/o adding Downey, which tends to get gummy and gloppy if you don't use it fast enough (I don't). PLUS, Vinegar is CHEAP compared to softener, (though admittedly NOT as soft).

Priceless how these everyday methods of our mothers' and grandmothers' generations come back as "secret recipes" (and I'm not talking about this video, it's cool - but a lot of other sitees where these methods are presented as sensational new ideas) - I'm not even that old, and I remember regularly using stuff like vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda to clean and descale bathroom surfaces and make metal surfaces shine in the 70"s and 80's And not because they were hip, but because there were few really useful cleaning detergents aand limescale solvents in the shops. But that's life: everyday methods and tricks sink to the bottom, and some eventually come back up ;)

Pretentious Pilates - I've seen many other videos like this one that advise mixing baking soda and vinegar as a solution singly or with other ingredients and consider them a waste of the baking soda. Baking soda works fine as a cleaner when moistened with water into a low abrasion paste. Vinegar works fine as a low acid grease cutter. The only time I combine them is not in a solution but an initial dose of baking soda followed by undiluted vinegar in my drains. There the foaming action works and can easily be followed by flushing any residue with water so the acidic vinegar does no long term damage to expensive plumbing. I keep a 1 to 1 ratio of vinegar and water in a spray bottle in my kitchen and use it multiple times a day on my stovetop and counters. An immediate wipe down of hard surfaces cuts any grease. If I get behind, I use diluted Simple Green. You can also use the remains of a lemon and, if needed, add kosher salt as an abrasive. Lemon residue needs to be wiped off with water whereas vinegar residue does not need to be wiped from most kitchen surfaces. Reports I've read say the slightly acidic vinegar residue is inimical to bacteria and helps prevent their growth.
