Everyone loves the iFootage Shark Slider Nano but I was never been able to get the performance I wanted out of mine until now. I underestimated the value of having a carefully balanced camera load. Long focal lengths and extended slide range can easily introduce micro-jitters to your footage. In this video I go over the two things I found that made the difference between frustrating footage and fantastic footage.

Good Job, this video was comprehensive, straight forward and exactly the combo I was considering. Thank you for all of your effort and quality!

I'm glad you found it helpful. It's always a struggle for me to stay on topic and keep things relevant. There's so much more information that I want to include sometimes. It's really nice when someone notices. Since making this video, I've really noticed how much the motor adjustment affects the smoothness. Thanks for the encouragement - and for watching!

ZOMG i love this video. Thank you. Forgive me for saying this, but i don't understand rodeos? Your film work, voice pacing, sound work... all of it. Brilliant. I changed my entire life around your 'how to write scripts' video. Fantastic. Keep up the amazing work.

Thanks so much for the encouragement! As far as rodeo goes, have you ever been to one? What part of the world are you in? I wish I had words to explain it, I wish my videos could do it justice. There's something about every aspect of it that appeals to me - on many levels. But, that's what makes the world go 'round. To each their own, right? What motivates you? In life? In your work? Thanks again for your kind words and thanks so much for watching.

@@MattSpaugh Tragically, i am motivated by 'The Great Indoors'. I am out in the Vancouver BC (Canada) area (i get that Alberta is really close and... i should fetch some culture, i'm sure). I am highly motivated by role-playing stuff, both in-game and psychology stuff. It is probably ironic that i am such a fan of your channel? Anyway, keep up the fantastic work / i will watch all of it.

Hey,@@grimmtales503 - it takes all kinds to make a world. I'm glad you like my content. Rodeo season is almost over so I'm hoping to get some new stuff produced in the next couple of months.

It's a good one, as long as your camera load is balanced! It fits nicely in my travel case and works great for location shooting. Thanks for watching.

As usual, highly entertaining and informative. I just shipped my Sachtler Ace M tripod and head back to a major retailer where I'll use the resulting store credit to score an iFootage T7 tripod and their K5S head. So, I'm delighted that you like that little head. I used to own a Sachtler Studio 7, so my taste leans toward the usable. :) The Sachtler Ace system's head was so-so, but their tripod was inexcusable crap. It was heavy, clumsy, cold, noisy (!) and it pinched my fingers. Twice! The new system will weigh half of the old and hopefully do a good job with my new movie camera/girlfriend: my first-ever iPhone. (now there's a learning curve for you) For years, I ran a Panaflex. My iPhone 15 Pro Max makes better movie images. Log footage is simply astounding and my Nikon Z6ii is now gathering dust. Is this great time to be alive or not? Please keep being attracted by shiny objects. Your channel's diversity is a feature, not a bug.

It's surprising to me that the Sachtler was not a better performer. I still mostly use my Manfrotto 055/502 and the E-Image GH06 combo that I have. That E-Image is a pretty obvious copy of the Sachtler. It works well but I've never been a fan of tandem legs. I much prefer the single tube style. I've always wanted to try a Miller, something like the Solo 75 but I just can't rationalize the money. For rodeo shooting I recently picked up an Innorel carbon fiber tripod with a 75mm bowl. It's a no-nonsense piece of gear that was cheap and is already covered in mud and muck - I love it! It's good to hear from you Peter - take care!

I'd call that Sachtler "adequate". Heavy and undeserving of the marque. I'd go for the GH06 in a heartbeat except that it's nearly four times as much money and probably twice as heavy. Overkill for my iPhone anyway.@@MattSpaugh

Thank you for suprt fine video. I just j resive the Nano slider and must now find good solid tripod for it, maby from Ifootage? When the slider used horisontal where it not are so strong its it maby better to use a ballhead that ligther? I will try. Thanks for fine video

I'm using an inexpensive Innorel tripod that has a 75mm ball head that gives good support and is easy to get level. I'm working on a review of it now, stay tuned! Thanks for watching.

Great video! How is the sagging when the slider gets to the extreme ends? Or does that have to do with the quality of the tripod underneath?

The tripod definitely makes a difference. I used to use my Manfrotto 502AH head on the 055 tripod and got mediocre results. I now use a tripod with a 75mm bowl (Innorel LT324C) and it's solid. If you look at the shot at 03:33, you can see how stable it is - granted, there's no camera load on it but it's pretty rock-solid. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

Great video Matt! I am actually thinking of buying the Komodo K5S head. I remember the K5 was not as stable and smooth as the Manfrotto 500. I wonder, if this time, they have managed to improve it and outperform the Manfrotto version. Any input will be highly appreciated!

It's a bit of a different beast if I'm not mistaken. That Manfrotto 500 is closer in size to my favorite, the 502AH, right? The K5S is smaller, shorter. That said, overall it's really good - much better than I expected for $150. The quality of the fluid head was actually the thing that inspired me to make the video. It's definitely a step up from the original K5. Hope that helps - thanks for watching!

Gerrald Undone did a video on this thing years ago and there was a long calibration setup each time you turn it on. Is that still a thing or once setup you are always good to go?
@MattSpaugh
@MattSpaugh 7 ай бұрын
No, that drawn out process was fixed with firmware. It takes it probably 10 seconds to initialize and calibrate when you first turn it on. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
