Helluva match. Well done by both. Maybe the best I've seen from Haddad Maia this season. Those 5 straight games in set 1 were very unexpected, but then she lost 8 straight, which seemed extreme after that set.

Even though Iga dropped the first set with her inadequate adjustment, I had forecast that she was lucidly going to accomplish such a gorgeous and splendid comeback against Haddas Maia. Brazilian tennis competitor has fought very hard at some points and compelling her capacity in the diferrent zones of the court but it was never sufficient to conquer Iga Swiatek. Particularly, Iga has demonstrated a more gallant, valiant and unfaltering performance than Haddad Maia in second and third sets. Polish tennis competitor was really a tornado and typhoon during the second set with bagel outcome.

These sliced returns Haddad Maia kept playing in this match because she gets caught out of position, to me, is an indication that she probably gasses fairly easily relative to players like Swiatek. If she can improve her cardio, she'll be an even bigger force.

Bia é uma das poucas counterpunchers que consegue não tomar 6-0/6-0 em 50 minutos da Iga isso porque, apesar dela só passar bola 90% das vezes, é uma bola passada de maneira forte e rasa, incomoda a Iga, mesmo assim, não o suficiente para vencê-la, ainda mais na terra, quase impossível, Bia teria que ser muito mais agressiva especificamente contra a N1. Porém, há muito de bom a se tirar de Madri, primeira vez no ano que Bia jogou um tênis condizente com seu ranking, por exemplo. Hoje foi um resultado completamente normal e esperado, você não vai vencer a Iga sendo uma counterpunch na terra, sem chance, Jabeur teria a mesma chance, só pra citar uma possível oponente da polaca na próxima rodada.

Latin players have the absolute worst grunts. I've seen Haddad Maia practice, and she didn't grunt at all then.

Beatriz gave her all to get the first set, and she paid a prize for it! She run out of gas and Iga just destroyed her!

Beatriz is disappointed and rightfully so. Idk if she could have won, but that 3rd set should have been closer. From watching her this week her serve is the big weakness. She doesn't double a lot, but she's also not winning free points. Excited to see her at RG though. Great clay court player!

During this match I saw anger on Iga's face, but not the sport type anger but like she is having something which makes her angry outside of the tennis court. The result does not show it but in the third set she seemed to fight more with herself than with Beatriz. Constant return in the direction where Beatriz was, rarely change of pace and use of pure power, no tactics, no saving energy. Strange. If she plays like that against better player she will lose and I hope her coach finds where the problem lies. I am always rooting for her but I am a bit worried about the way she is constructing her game.

All hail the queen. She doesn’t do all this hug the baseline I’ll hit a million grounstrokes with you. Iga’s style of play is I will end you within a matter of a couple groundstrokes. She’s not my favorite but you gotta give credit where it is due.

This roaring and grunting has nothing to do with true sportsmanship and fair play especially in games that require high level of focus. Instant ban!

Algo que ha caracterizado a Haddad Maia es su capacidad fisica, y su preocupacion por estar en un alto nivel. Pero ella ha ido mostrando que su fisico le esta fallando en los ultimos meses. No se si es su metabolismo, o que ha descuidado sus ejercicios, pero en el tercer set mostro que ya no podia.

Drôle de résumé: passer de 4-1 pour Swiatek à 5-4, balle de set pour Haddad Maia...
