Iggy and the Stooges are one of the founders of the Punk movement, which directly influenced the New Wave and many cultural changes as well. Iggy's influence can't be overstated.

This video was put together with clips from the 90s movie Trainspotting. The original song is from 1977, when he did 2 albums with David Bowie in Germany. I’ll watch any reaction to Iggy and The Stooges, he’s my favorite.

The godfather of punk rock. His greatest contribution to rock has been his incredible influence on damn near every rocker that you've ever heard of. Saw him a few years ago, I think he was 72 or so. Just as hard as ever. You may have never heard of him but everyone you listen to have heard of him in a big way.

Absolute fave by Iggy. Saw him back-up The Pretenders at the old McNichols Arena in Denver in 1987 and unfortunately got way too stoned on some weed that someone in the audience let me smoke so I spent his part of the show bent over because sitting up was just too head-spinning, lol. Chrissy came out with the band and before they started playing, she said "I have to kiss the stage where Iggy Pop spit" and proceeded to do so! Now that's rock and roll! 🖤🤘

Got to see Iggy and The Stooges open for The Pretenders at The Spectrum in Philly, "back in the day", and the energy coming off the stage was palpable. The whole arena was hyped up at the end of Iggy's set, and ready for Chrissy and Friends. Iggy has influenced almost everyone since the late 1960's, he is very dynamic and hypnotic.

Got a lust for life! One of the many acts that made their bones at CBGB. So many 70's and 80's bands owe their careers to Hilly Kristal. That's another movie for y'all to check out, CBGB.
@terrycunningham81184 ай бұрын
I don't think that Iggy And The Stooges had anything to do with CBGB. They formed in '67, made their bones in Detroit, and were pretty much done by '74, whereas CBGBs opened in '73 and really didn't become the punk mecca until a year or two later.
@phillipweber20744 ай бұрын
CBGB, the movie, is highly inaccurate. The Stooges (and Iggy) made their bones at Detroit spots like the Grande Ballroom and the Michigan Palace. When he/they played NYC, it was Ungano's or Max's Kansas City.

A cool friend turned me on to Iggy way back in 1979 with the album "New Values". Still my favorite work by Iggy to this day. The songs "I'm Bored" & "Girls" grabbed my ears enough to make me go back and reassess the punk movement which up until this point I wasn't sonically ready for. I soon found the Sex Pistols actually had some pretty good tunes and the Clash became one of my all time most loved bands

The background movie is Trainspotting.Nothing at all to do with spotting trains. Fantastic film set in Glasgow,with Euan Mcgregor and directed by the wonderful Danny Boyle. Danny Boyle has made some excellent films. This film really brought home the heroin epidemic that destroyed so many lives. Trainspotting was realeased in the early 90's im sure(just from memory). Trainspotting 2 was released about 7 or 8 years ago and is a really good continuation from the 1st. Peace,Love and Unity.

Video was from The movie Trainspotting
@immoralreplicant13324 ай бұрын
I agree with whats been stated elsewhere. The video is just distracting. The movie that used the song on it's soundtrack is almost 30 years old, the song itself almost 20 years older still. Audio only is best for Iggy or The Stooges, unless it's a live performance. The live performances available on video will be from the 90s onwards. Artists of Iggy's era didn't really have video as a medium at the peak of their careers. They wrote & performed to be listened to, not watched. Unless you bought a ticket. I bought a ticket a few times & was never disappointed. Iggy was one of the greatest live performers of the 20th century when he nailed it right. He nailed it often.

The Asheton brothers and Dennis Alexander, with Iggy (and their friends in: MC 5) created the primary blueprints for: Heavy Metal and Punk Rock (in the 1960s). Iggy is as important to all of the music you know as: J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, (et al.) are to the creation and innovation of: Western Music. 🤘🤘🔥 Nothing else.

It was unexpected, hmmm... Iggy Pop, yes I remember him, played garage rock, proto-punk and glam rock in the group The Stooges, and I also liked his presence in the crowd on stage, he was the first who started doing this, in In general, I remember him more in The Stooges.
@gavinschwier82424 ай бұрын
As the comments have said this is OG 1977. It ain’t mid lol. Also, I think you guys would more enjoy Iggy and the Stooges, his Detroit band from the late 60s which was proto punk (as in invented/inspired punk) with some great loud rock. Try “Search and Destroy, I Wanna be Your Dog, Down on the Street”. As for Iggy solo “The Passenger” from the same album as Lust for Life (this tune) is better. This video is from Trainspotting, the Scottish movie from 1996, and updated the song with the film, kinda taking away what it is, and making it more a side piece of the movie. The soundtrack to the movie has a lot of great stuff on it, but in this context, I do see how you thought it wasn’t all that. Please do give Iggy/the Stooges a try though. David Bowie produced him too! Have a Happy Easter!
@davidthompson48694 ай бұрын
great song and the video, for the most part, was a bunch of clips from the movie. it takes away from the music, which was created a decade before the movie. Iggy does have a much deserved spot in punk rock history. This song was co-written and produced by David Bowie. the opening drums come from "You Can't Hurry Love" by the Supremes(talk about sampling! been goin on for MANY years!). This is also a great workout song. And just a reminder for the viewers, LET'S HIT SUBSCRIBE AND GET LA and CHE UP TO 50k! Keep it Coming Gentlemen.

Ned from Spain here to say I'm a little disappointed in your reaction. This mash up from Trainspotting is not the way to start with Iggy Pop. The song is from 1977 on the LP that brought him back from drug addiction and collapse. He and Bowie both cleaned up in Berlin and worked like maniacs to put out 2 LP's for Iggy and 3 for Bowie. His earlier band The Stooges had 3 albums starting from 1969 to 1973 are raw heavy simple ideas that hit like piledrivers and are majorly influential.
