The plaintiff claims she took care of the defendant’s child overnight, and that the child deliberately set her couch on fire - and it allegedly wasn’t the first time it’s happened. She is suing for damages. The defendant states the plaintiff was supposed to be babysitting his daughter, as that’s what she was getting paid for. He believes she wasn’t properly supervising his daughter.

I agree, but sadly even social services is not obligated to divulge past dangerous behaviours to an adoptive family, or even to another child services branch in another area of a country, and this has led to abuse and even murder. They should be forced to divulge dangerous crucial information, and be setup to communicate with other branches properly.

In all fairness, from what I heard, it sounds like the father having custody of her is a new thing. She previously lived solely with her mother, who was maybe doing drugs, and the daughter was setting things on fire before her father was a part of her life. This behavior probably has just as much to do with the mom and the things she did, as it does with the father's actions.

But only kids who are in the country with bonfires can do that. It really comes down to the parents. When you teach your kids about the damage and destruction fires can cause it should prevent any kid from playing with fire inside at the very least. If it’s a child that doesn’t listen to their parents i would just be sure to never have lighters or matches anywhere the kid can access. They both show a pattern of clinging to any excuse to avoid responsibility. Even if the plaintiff WAS lying, that doesn't excuse your daughter's actions. "Has your daughter done this before? "Yeah but it was like three years ago." "Did she light the fire?" "Yeah but the plaintiff should have been watching her." "While she was asleep?" I know this situation very well. My son has set my bath towels on fire, my blanket, toilet paper and several things. I've kept the lighters and matches put up. He would always find something. NOW, he's 24, and thank the lord, he turned that into good. He is now a Wildland firefighter, he loves his job, and I'm so glad he's doing a good deed instead of burning things to the ground!! I took responsibility for my son, this dude is making excuses for this kid!!!

Omg my brother was the same way as a kid now he is a fire fighter. My mom made him be a junior volunteer fire fighter and he was educated on safety. This Dad has to calm down.

I'm super glad this worked for your son! But it's more commonly a worrisome thing when people who have played with fire become firefighters. Most arsonists are also firefighters; there are an overwhelming amount of articles and studies on the subject - interesting to read! www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.3563183

UMMMM…. Do “black” single dads get more credit? I’m SO fkn sick and tired of “people” bringing up the color of someone’s skin. Who fkn cares???? WE ARE ALL THE SAME.

What's weird to me is you can see and hear the world around you and still believe we are the same. It's chosen silliness at its finest.

Yes they get more credit because society has painted an UGLY picture that black families don’t have active BLACK FATHER’S. That black men are dead beats, in jail or raising someone else’s kid with another woman. So yes, when there is an opportunity to praise them WE (black women) will acknowledge it! 😊

This is a terrible habit for her to have! She could have killed everyone! This is precursor to something deviant. I'm not saying she's crazy, I'm saying this is super dangerous!

I agree. Almost every child does it once. And the fear and punishment are usually enough to curb that. But its the ones that do it repeatedly that you need to worry about. (I know a child like this. I believe when he is on his on he will be a serial killer. ) The child needs help. The father just needs to understand it is a problem. Because you can tell just how much he loves that child.

@@Astred1213 I don't agree, neither of my children ever lit a fire, nor did my nieces, nor did my brother or I when we were young. Out of all my friends growing up, I know of one case and it never happened again. She was just someone I knew from visiting my Grandmother. None of my school friends or those that lived near me did it.

Thanks for not saying she's a whole lot of other ugly things like some of these other people have said, like saying she needs jail. Jail is not the answer. We have no idea what she's going or have been through when she was with her mother. I hope she hasn't been touched or raped by anyone and that's the reason for her starting fire's.
