Don't forget to let me know what you think of the new format of 2 new episodes and 1 revisit! Also let me know what other older Bluey episodes you'd love to see featured in future videos!

Any chance you know that Rusty's dad is voiced by one of the main members of The Wiggles?

I know that others will explain the nuances of cricket better than me, but just some things about the ending - what you see is Rusty walking off the cricket pitch and he's meeting his future self walking on to bat. Rusty isn't just a professional player he's playing for Australia and coming out to bat in an international test match, which is the pinnacle of cricketing. A test match lasts for 5 days and each day they play all day. He's coming out on his own so he's not opening the batting but batting at perhaps number 3, meaning he's the best batsman on the team. All Rusty's perseverance pays off in that final scene but in giving his sister that catch he's showing that he also understands the spirit of cricket. Which is about being honourable. One of my absolute favourite episodes. Thanks for the reaction

Great explanation - mine too. I would also say it's about father son relationships especially absent father ones and the motivation of that and how sports can channel people issues and help them

I love the way Bluey says "You'll never get Rusty out." The grownups don't know about Rusty's skills but the kids sure do.

It's also worth pointing out that even more than just being a sport, playing Cricket is something that's in nearly every Australian's childhood. It's very common to play "backyard or beach cricket" with family and friends. So this also hits us in the nostalgia feels.

As a cricketer, I’ll point out a few ‘Easter eggs’ that make ‘cricket’ so great. (and why I ugly cry watching it) 1. Bandit is narrating the story from the future when Rusty is playing for Australia. It’s very common to tell stories about your connections to sportspeople. 2. Rusty’s batting technique is brilliant. Normally TV shows get this very wrong as cricket movements are unnatural so it’s hard for actors etc to get it right unless they play. 3. The scene where rusty practice his square cut by hitting the ball rebounding from the house is a nod to the training method of Don Bradman (statistically the best sportsperson ever) 4. Most kids will start off playing with a soft ball. It is a significant moment when you first face a real ball as they are really hard (remember trying to hit the batter on the body is allowed in cricket). This is the significance of facing ‘Tiny’ 5. The stadium at the end is the Gabba cricket ground in Brisbane (Rusty’s home ground) 6. Sport in Australia is a way generations connect with each other and that is perfectly shown here.

Point 3 (It’s actually a straight drive), Bradman used to practice with a cricket stump and a golf ball.

It’s a flashforward. Rusty bounces fists with his younger self As others have said, there are a lot of nods to cricket stories from many legends. Even Lucky’s Dad saying “And that’s lunch” is a nod to the cricket commentators. That episode has me in tears every time.

The patch for the spinner is exactly where Warne's Ball of the Century landed! Maybe conjectural but I think the creators knew what they were doing

Tiggy is the Aussie way of saying tag. I was surprised to hear it because I hadn’t heard it since I was a kid due to most kids seeing US media these days.

That end scene was Rusty going out to bat in a Test Match for Australia at the Gabba. Only thing better would have been showing him hitting 100 vs Poms and his and Blueys families celebrating together.

The magic of Cricket, even though the titular sport not popular in the US, is that the message of sports is universal. So great.

"That wouldn't be good...Hes been taught better that that". In the British realms, we have a saying for that concept.. " Thats not Cricket". Cricket runs deep in our psyche.

It's nice to see more people reacting to Bluey these days, your reactions and commentary to episodes are always interesting and fun to watch! This show has a special way of tugging at the heartstrings it seems, and I loved hearing what you had to say analyzing Daddy-Dropoff at the end. Cricket is one of my favorite episodes of the back half of season 3, and while it makes sense it might've been overhyped for you, I'm glad you enjoyed it nonetheless.

I know nothing about Cricket but this episode always destroys me! Rusty is my favorite male side character. He’s so sweet & well mannered. Reminds me of one of my daycare kids who was exactly like him. Btw, the sibling that got him out was his little sister, Dusty. His brother is named Digger

Did you spot the longdog Easter egg in the Cricket episode? Also, we get a great capture of Rusty's family here. Look how his relationship with Digger is, how he looks after Rusty and how Rusty then looks after his younger sister. Also, the background light changes when he's playing with Jack showing that its not just one day but multiple days they've been playing in the backyard.

I can add insight from a viewpoint that has nothing to do with cricket, as I had to look up rules and read comments myself, being both American and not all that interested in sport beyond the occasional American football game. My dad was active duty when I was a kid, was gone for months during the gulf war when I was about 10ish, and a reservist through my teen years. My mom worked 12 hour shifts at the hospital, so my older brother (4 years older) did a lot of my "raising", including things like teaching good sportsmanship. My parents were pretty involved for 90s parents, but the final scene where he bats a catch to Dusty had me ugly crying.

As an Aussie, Tiggy is basically just tag. We run after each other, tackle each other down, and run again. Cricket and footy are our biggest sports and the sports we're most well known for.
