I'm pretty sure this was used in A Clockwork Orange as part of Alex's rehabilitation.

Alvin actually did do some very experimental solo work after his stint in the Chipmunks that broke apart after Sludgefest. Simon was the one he trusted the most, so he gave the masters to his first album to him after Alvin became bedridden. This is the only song Simon decided was in a fit enough state to release under Alvin's name (although one track, "People Are Strange," ended up on Simon and Theodore's tribute album with rerecorded vocals). It was meant to be an interlude mocking commercialism and had a music video to match. Cut for the KZfaq upload (but theoretically preserved for the never-materialized MTV one-time showing) are the scenes of a rotting corpse with syrup being poured on it. Simon said in a recent interview that Alvin's solo stuff was clearly him trying to get out all of the darker ideas that the band refused to do around the Sludgefest era, and this track really corrobates that.

Get the ludes, were going to fucking IHOP.

That... was way more scary than it needed to be. Imagine being in the 60s and then this ad comes on.

OK I am seriously cracking up laughing at this. This was 20 years before I was born but it's way too epic. Of course it was made in 1969, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever made this was on some serious LSD.

this is one of the most psychologically uncomfortable videos on youtube for me. it’s a combination of the chipmunk voice that probably doesn’t even sound human at normal speed, the moog, the weird discolored alien food, the low quality, etc

This sounds like something Ween would do, but Gene and Dean were born a year after this and there is no way in 1992 that they'd have come across this before making Push Th' Little Daisies. When my mind finally snaps, this will be the music playing in my head over and over.

The real scary thing is that 2007 was 15 years ago. Time flies.

Oddly, I'm not the least bit surprised at how trippy and surreal this commercial is. After all, it WAS made in 1969, during the height of the psychedelic era.

This is like my version of heaven. Everything has a Moog soundtrack, the color scheme is all orange and teal, and my dinner is served in a chicken dish. Except for the fact that the rest of the family gets Italian food (and whatever's in the chicken dish) and the mom gets a side salad. That part will have to change.

Since 1969 was the year of the moon landing, they were probably going for a space age, moon man theme, to get kids attention. At any rate, it is creepy, but somehow fun, in a time capsule kind of way.

Well that was horrifying. I'm trying to find a list of the syrups from the 1960s they used to have at IHOP. For those that don't remember they used to have an incredible selection of syrups not just a couple.

You know, after this commercial aired, IHOP was forced to remove it's "Special Syrup" from the menu.

I remember this commercial as a kid from back in the late 60’s, and it really didn’t sound that creepy back then. Of course I was watching it on a Philco-Ford black and white television set with one speaker that probably distorted the actual creepiness of it.

I loved this commercial back in the old days when I was in elementary school. I wish that IHOP could retro the music score in their commercials of today!

What's strange about this commercial is that they've combined every cute, wholesome thing they could think of- balloons, happy, smiling children, chipmunk voices- and yet the end result is pure nightmare fuel. I feel scared watching this and I can't articulate why...

That's some good acid that you could only get back then! I love that dad got spaghetti and meatballs and mom got a sad looking salad sans dressing! All items I definitely crave when I go to IHOP!

There used to be an IHOP in my hometown. It went out of business, and then the building was sold and House of Chung moved in.

They were all on LSD and this was the by-product. And whatever they were served looked really weird. The daughters facial expression is priceless lol.

Somewhere in Southern California a young Charlie Harper was inspired by this to learn to play the piano and become a jingle writer. He'd strike gold in the 80s writing the theme song for the original TMNT cartoon and the 'Longer With Big Red' jingle among many others over a span of 26 years. He bought a beach house in Malibu and lived a life of riches, casual relationships with women, drinking fine Bourbon, and smoking cigars. He reluctantly let his younger brother and nephew live in his house rent free and mooch off of him. He was then presumed dead in 2011 but was actually held captive in a basement of a woman named Rose who had obsessed over him for about a decade prior to capturing him. He escaped from Rose's basement in 2015. Shortly after escaping and while seeking revenge on those close to him who didn't do their job to search for him, he was killed when a piano randomly fell on top of him from out of the sky.

Ahhh, the perfect end to that popular 60s family activity of running around with helium balloons.

Astonishingly, IHOPs in 1969 must have had balloon checks so that families laden with dozens of balloons could arrive comfortable in the knowledge that they could later frolic home with them after a full meal of lasagna and salad.

All the old A-frame IHOP buildings were basically the same, but judging from the angle of the morning sun, slope of the parking lot and the mountain ridge in the background, I know for a fact the exterior shot in this commercial is of the IHOP that once stood at the corner of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks, California. Living in nearby Newbury Park I went to this IHOP many times in my youth. I believe it was demolished in the late 80s. Mu first impression of the soundtrack+balloons... they're selling helium! Haha!

I think we all need to remember that in 1969 EVERYONE was on drugs, including those making, and watching, this bizarre commercial.

This isn't even creepy weird. Like what the heck, why would anyone look at this and say "Hmm yeah that's a good pancake house commercial, put it on the air."?

A funny thing is that I recall this bizarre commercial as a small child, and I associated it with Alvin and the Chipmunks.
