Sam Storms said; “While we know that many fine believers and leaders have served at IHOPKC and are part of the related, global prayer movement, we recognize that the evidence points to some dangerous cult-like tendencies that emerged over the years that need to be addressed and adjusted.
IHOP-KC’s Cult like tendencies, better called “youth targeted ‘high control, high demand,’ religious group that created a culture for abuse of ‘imperfect victims’ and allegedly nourishes grape culture.
Mike was brilliant at creating imperfect victims. He was facing cult allegations on day one, so producing what he called, 'voluntary lovers,' and creating a system of reward and conditioning so that we all fell in line but couldn't explain how we got there. Some of the songs written there reinforced it.
Mike was brilliant at apologetics, not for Jesus, but for the prayer movement and his talking points. There's this change in his sermons where suddenly around 2000 he's systematically dismantling every counter argument that would logically be made, and then saying the same thing 7 times 7 different interesting ways, so that by the end your brain took it as confirmation bias that it was true and there were consequences for not applying it.
Which can be fine in a Sunday morning 'Love thy neighbor sermon', but intense for the money making ship he was building at sea with free labor.
