Not to take anything away from Switzerland but the level of hockey for the world championships has hugely degraded. It's horrible hockey at times for this type of tournament.

Missing Meier and Josi compared to Pastrnak, Necas, Chytil, Vrana, Hertl, Krejci, Voracek, Palat, Kase, Gudas, Rutta, Hronek, and so on isn't the same. Additionally, Kulich, Jiricek, and Svozil will be cracking the NHL soon most likely as well. If we are talking best on best, Czechs are a different animal. And thats me not including all the players that play 3rd and 4th line roles like Lauko, Kampf, Zadina, Nosek, Faksa, etc. I don't know if you've noticed yesterday, but an AHLer like Radim Zohorna was already causing you a lot of issues to your team. В целом состав сильнее и потому на классе вы ащили , Фиала, Нидеррайтер и Хишер это не абы хто ,як кажуть кадры решают все,хотя в том и удивительно что Швейцарская команда меньше отдыхала и затратила много сил на Канаду ,но клас есть клас ,по составу примерно равны с ними Шведы а выше только Канада

Incredible lack of discipline by the Czechs.

Yes we lost two finals in 2013 and 2018 both against Sweden and more players are playing in NHL than 10 years ago. Its still not the same amount as big teams like Canada, Russia or Sweden but they are more mature now and way stronger. Since we did our first final in 2013 something change in people’s mind. I think that’s the big difference. Because before our objectif was only to qualify to the 1/4 in we were happy with that. Also Team Canada and Czech Republic definitely don’t have their best team at this championship. We just missed Roman Josi and Timo Meier if I’m not wrong but all our other NHL players are in this team now.

Very strong investment in the hockey development programs since the end of the 90s I'd say. Also, more players leave the country to play in North american junior leagues and then NHL. We've never had so many good Swiss players playing there. This year, we're lucky. 7 players out of the 12 playing in NHL are part of the team.

I am looking forward to days, when Russia will play WC again, then you will see that Swiz are not weak anymore like before 10 years :D They can beat evrybody, even your Russian team easilly. True is, their players take it seriously and go play for national team, not like others top teams, where players decline invite to WC because there is no prestige. So if Czechs or Russia or any other top team take it too seriously, I think Swiz will have big problem.
