That doesn't have much to do with the institute you choose. Depends completely on the individual. Institutes teach you the skills to improve in different aspects. Having a successful start up requires a self driven person who is willing to learn everything needed irrespective of the institute. There are big successful companies established by people without any strong education background. Both IITs and IISc are great learning places with their respective strengths. If one wants to do a job oriented technical learning, IIT is the place. As mentioned in the video, If one wants to go beyond that wrt to research and solve harder problems then IISc is the place. None of these are going to tell you how to build a start up. That depends on the individual, how skilled s/he is to utilize the learning and learn which no one taught. Coming specifically to UG programs. The mentioned BTech program in IISc is maths and computing not CSE. It is going to more math and knowledge focussed not directed towards using different tools or tech. It'll be harder an you hv to be hungry to explore tools/tech yourself if you are willing to do that since they are not considered important at IISc. Students are supposed to achieve that expertise by their own and focus on hard stuff in classrooms.

Sir, I am jee aspirant ( targeting 2024) , interested in research in AI and ML but my financial condition is not well, so i am not sure that whether i will be able to pursue my masters and phd . So should I join btech of iisc or any iit ? I know this btech program is excellent as a bachelor in the respective field , i like mathematics very much. You can consider me as a "confused person" category mentioned in your video. By the way thank you very much , even being so busy you are helping us by giving such precious information.

You will be able to get a job from any good enough institute including state level colleges. If you have a choice then go for IISc. One can find good enough financial support from fellowships if s/he is hard working and want to pursue research further. They may not be equivalent to a job but still you get some money while working towards your interest. Industry opportunities are always open. Depending on the skillset a little more or less but not going to be drastically bad anyway.

BSc/MSc are done in sciences. Students interested in pursuing research career in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, materials, earth and environmental science.. choose it. Btech is a professional degree, designed to get you a job in industry. If one is very sure to have a research career, choose BSc. For example a BSc in Mathematics and then a direct PhD in computer science. Aftet that one has option to choose industry or academics.

Check the current qualifying criteria. Should depend on the rank. One can always apply for PhD in multiple departments CSA, CDS, Robert Bosch and also non-CSE departments such as nano science and engineering (if interested). GATE score is just a qualifying criterion to apply. Candidate submits the application alongwith work ex details. The profiles are shortlisted for written and interview. Final Selection depends on that, not just on GATE rank.

@@TheLoneSoul619 thanks a lot of assurance. As a 2024 aspirant, I chose iisc over IIT because of professors, potentially better peer group(not sure), learning AI, neuroscience, robotics, energy, materials and also for the location. But lot of IITians advice me not to because of hectic workload, worse college life and "less exposure". I hope that's not true.
@TheLoneSoul619
@TheLoneSoul619 3 ай бұрын
To some extent it's true. Workload will be high in IISc as I have repeated in too many videos and comments. Here people have to study and work hard to score. Studying a night before exam works in engineering colleges. It's a research oriented place. One has to be strong to handle difficult level of studies. College life depends on person rather than institute. Every institute has similar type of events. In an engineering college people have plenty of time to waste. At IISc, not. I have enjoyed in my all 3 colleges including iisc. Exposure means different to different people. In an IIT students don't get the type of research exposure they get at IISc, if that's what you mean by exposure. Rest people can see what type of life I have lived in IISc as a PhD candidate.

@@TheLoneSoul619 so if I joined IISc for the mathematics and computing course, will I be able to learn neural interfaces, AI, robotics or anything I find interesting at that moment? I actually don't care about the college life, I just want to learn what I'm interested in quickly and starting working on a startup or join one. My aim is not pure research. @TheLoneSoul619
@TheLoneSoul619 3 ай бұрын
At IISc you have profs who are at top level in their fields and producing research that has maintianed iisc as world's best research university. As per me if a person gets an opportunity to be here and s/he denies it then something is certainly wrong. If I have interest in working on something then a institute can't stop me from doing that. I'll attend classes, complete my commitments, explore what I can learn from this institute, from profs, from labs, from so many science disciplines ranging from brain research to aerospace engg. And will still find time to work on my interests. If I am unable to then I am not capable enough. B.tech load is nothing compared to PhD. I managed to produce research, work as a professional theatre actor, perform in open mics, focus on my fitness, have this channel to spread whatever knowledge and experience I gained and respond to your comments. Certainly it all depends on individuals and their goals but I prefer to be capable enough solving hard problems and managing to do everything I like.

@TheLoneSoul619
@TheLoneSoul619 3 ай бұрын
Package is a subjective thing because it's not a placement focussed college. Placements just happen. Average package is ofcourse the same. Typically most companies offer 20~25 these days in all colleges. But one may have to do self work if s/he wants to crack development focussed coding rounds since focus here is research. Just the second Btech batch has entered so no one knows about the final placements of Btech. Overall IISc makes you computer scientist rather than just a developer.

@TheLoneSoul619 Thank you, Bhaiya. I am a JEE aspirant and just gave JEE Mains 2024 and got 99.55 percentile. Earlier, I was thinking of getting this branch in IIT Delhi but now i cam across IISc Bangalore. My concern is that if i go for IISc Bangalore in this branch what are the future scopes? Like in IIT we get placement in a company does it apply here also or something else?
@TheLoneSoul619
@TheLoneSoul619 3 ай бұрын
As mentioned, one can get placement from any good college. At IISc the life will be much harder. They don't teach for placements. They teach what is needed. If one can survive that then the person is capable enough to find any kind of job or develop skills for any job or move to research and higher studies. People don't care about placements at IISc because that they can get easily. They reject jobs to learn more and achieve something bigger rather than just a job. For a job one can choose comparatively easy colleges. I, myself rejected offers where they were ready to pay as per my expectations. Money isn't considered a big thing at IISc. That mindset is found in typical engineering colleges. Every capable person can earn money. IISc is focussed on science and research and people prefer solving challenging problems rather than doing monotonous jobs for money.

You can explore research internships at IISc. Also, try contacting the faculties that you would like to work with directly through email to know if they have some intern position in their lab. If you are good and can work even after the internship time is over they won't mind. Candidates who are willing to adjust and work are always preferable. It is difficult to find great opportunities at other institutes. There can be exceptions If a candidate is willing to work with specific faculty at NIT but overall research environment is not prominent there.

No IIT or institute provides funding for travel to every student. Many PhD students I know did not travel abroad throughout their course. Overseas travel is not a focus unless it is necessary for work purposes, such as attending a research conference or collaboration. Otherwise, it does not make sense to spend resources and funds on sending someone abroad for no reason. The educational standards at IISc are already high, attracting foreign students to study there. If I have worked hard to secure a seat in an institute that reserves admissions for Indian students, I would prefer to enjoy that privilege rather than waste my time and energy visiting other places. IISc is the world's number 1 research institute, and we should feel proud of it and work hard to increase its standard. Other institutes make efforts to attract IISc students for higher studies, not the other way around.

None have advantage over the other. Both are going to include the basics of respective courses. At IISc it'll be more research focussed. In a typical engineering college it'll be more tech and usability focussed. All depends on the candidate's interest. As I have mentioned in the video and multiple comments, IISc is a research institute. Learning in depth is the focus. Here, no one cares about what an IT company requires. It's all about learning the real and complicated concepts which may not even be relevant for a tech job. Engineering colleges like IITs are meant for tech jobs where students become experts in simple technology and want to work in industry. IISc students focus on learning in depth fundamentals that are not needed for a typical tech job.
