I am a Mathematics and Computing graduate from IIT Kanpur, 2015. Trust me, I have seen the webpages of the curriculum of all good UG programs in iits etc. The new IISC Btech in M&C is clearly the most flexible in terms of coursework, with wide range of research opportunities. And it will have top placements too! Great choice Shishir.

Off campus internships and placement offers highest packages that too in High frequency trading companies. Campus placement drive packages are almost same at iits or iisc. BS & phd are into research . Btech & MTech may or may not be into reserch.

Sir thank you for bringing this up... I really want to pursue BS in IISC if possible or in IISERs but I belong to a small town and no one here knows about anything related to research..people(including my teachers) are just asking me to take up engineering and land a high paying job (my parents can very well pay for my higher studies so money is not an issue) as a result people are just mocking me and saying stuff like what a waste of brains !!! How can I go against everyone? Also sir, there's an option for mtech research but I know nothing about engineering and don't have too much interest in coding... that's why I thought of going for BS(of couse I love Physics and Maths..) where I can explore a lot of topics in a different way than this competitive curriculum... I would be grateful if you kindly reply sir....

I am a GATE CS aspirant, our first priority for choosing an institute(for MTech,MS) would always be IISc because of its research focused curriculum which IITs have but not that level, I congratulate this guy to choose the Indians most premium institute and not go into societal pressure, choosing IIT. Congratulations brother. Also I would say others respect his choice , not everyone is there for placement , he wants to go for research thats why IISc.

To me ISI and CMI are the #1 for pure mathematics. They have the best mathematics faculty. IITs and IISc are good for applied mathematics. Don't consider IISER at all.

IMSc , IISc , CMI and TIFR are the best for Theoretical CS(Its another maths course lol) . ISI CS department is focused more on statistical computing which means ML.

Jee / IIT is like fuel for coaching institutes and the hyped unrealistic packages adds to it. And every middle class runs behind this gimmick and underestimate the potential of IISC . But in reality universities abroad and companies know the worth of IISC. The common people may not know
