No, he did not make Tina a star. He hated that she was a bright star though he had a lot to give!

Ike Turner was not the first, last or only musician to ever physically assault a woman whether she be his wife, girlfriend, lover or even just a groupie, but he seems to be one of the only ones that almost nobody ever forgave or looked at aside from his transgression. James Brown, Miles Davis, Jackie Wilson, David Ruffin, Al Green, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and many others all got a pass and whenever their names are mentioned everybody talks about their greatness. Maybe because they didn't have biased books, musicals, documentaries, or a movie portraying them in the worst light. I've read Tina's book and Ike's book, the truth must be somewhere in between. Despite his faults, I still enjoy Ike's contributions to music.

I think Tina's success put her front and center in the spot light, and everyone just had to know. I think when people considered her as washed up and a has been, there probably would not have been any interest.

@@true1evaniqueShe was considered a washed up has been. David Bowie pulled some strings to get her a new record deal and she took off. Without the backstory, she would've been a flash in the pan, but we invested in the character.

@@jakephillips4453 All frontmen, and all that came along later. Ringo Starr couldn't even play. James Brown is the only person comparable, but different genres and Ike wasn't a front man. Similarly talented they could play any instrument they touched, both controlling with that same work ethic & expectations. Ike still more influential but working in the background.

@skepchica Not just front men, lol. They actually wrote hit records. While Ike was relegated to doing covers. Ike more influential than James Brown? Hmm. Despite James Brown influencing the entire genre of Hip Hop but whatever.

I think he pretty much shared what she said. He admitted in another interview to being very controlling. She never loved him I don't think. But was manipulated into having a relationship with him. She was 17 when she met him and he about 26. I think they were growing apart musically too. Look at the way she does Proud Mary today. She is more musically controlled on how she wants it to sound. He use to work her hard. But he did win a Grammy later in life.

@@KylieKDixon5 They fought each other. Tina said on Oprah that the movie was inaccurate. She and Ike were friends and she stayed because she was loyal to him. They paid Ike 45,000 dollars in 1988 giving him the impression that they would portray him in his Ike and Tina revues days. He couldn't even sue because he had signed his rights away. He couldn't believe they painted him out to be a monster especially with things such as the eat the cake, rape scene that didn't happen in real life.

@@jakephillips4453 I am a huge fan and I wouldn't have. That movie and all of its inaccuracies and made up drama really painted him out to be a monster instead of the musical genius that he is. Most of the stuff in the movie was exaggerated or made up. It was loosely based on Tina's biography. The movie propelled her career exponentially and did the opposite for Ike and even caused his relapse and drug overdosed death.

This was a very nice clip! He still loved Tina. He said his dream is to be on stage with her again. It is so disturbing that she never ever talked to him again. Ike remained close to Tina's sister Alline and her mother who defended him. Alline said Ike was jovial in his later years and remorseful about his past. He made plenty of mistakes but he did time for the only crime he was convicted of which was drugs. Ike admittedly was not a good husband to Tina but she wasn't completely honest about their relationship. Many people have said Tina was outspoken and violent at times. They had fights but it wasn't one-sided as it's always portrayed. Tina was vindictive and she died still thinking about Ike. Maybe they'll both finally get some closure in the afterlife.

She was ok with that as he was a good provider and that’s how life was at that time specially with their background.
