“Unarikami”, (“Yoisura Bushi”, Sailors’ Song) This is a traditional folk song from the Amami Islands in present day Kagoshima prefecture. Yoisura-bushi was also handed down to Okinawan/ Ryūkyūan tradition. It’s a song of protection for brothers or men who have gone out to sea, and is based on the belief in a very powerful goddess, or Onarigami [“Unarikami” in Amami dialect], who resides in sisters. A white bird or swan perched upon a ship’s stern is regarded as a symbol of Onarigami, and considered a good sign. The title of the song comes from the musical accompaniment of “Surayoisura”. The words were a little difficult to translate, as they're already Japanese translations from the Amami dialect in which Ikue Asazaki sings, but it’s the lament of a sailor on the high seas who wishes for a sister, or “Unarikami” to worship for the blessings of good fortunes against the pull of the gods. 舟ぬ高艦に ヨイスラ (Sailing on a high ship, Yoisura) 舟ぬ高艦に ヨイスラ (Sailing on a high ship, Yoisura) 白鳥ぬ 坐ちゅり スラヨイスラヨイ (No swan sitting, Sura Yoisura Yoi) 白鳥やあらぬ ヨイスラ (The swan is not there, Yoisura) 白鳥やあらぬ ヨイスラ (The swan is not there, Yoisura) 姉妹神がなし スラヨイスラヨイ (Without a sister goddess [Unarikami]. Sura Yoisura Yoi) 汝きゃ拝む節や ヨイスラ (I would worship you, Yoisura) 汝きゃ拝む節や ヨイスラ (I would worship you, Yoisura) …スラヨイスラ (Sura Yoisura) 夢やちゅんば見りゃぬ スラヨイスラヨイ (I see no good fortune in dreams, Sura Yoisura Yoi) 神ぬ引きゃ合わせに ヨイスラ (To match the pull of the gods, Yoisura) 神ぬ引きゃ合わせに ヨイスラ (To match the pull of the gods, Yoisura) …スラヨイスラ (Sura Yoisura) 汝きゃばくま拝むでぃ スラヨイスラヨイ (The goddess I would worship. I don't know what the japanese lyrics means, but I think I feel the crying and breathing of the soul of this greate singer. What a soul-touching song ! On the other hand I can't understand the japanese young people. They deny their beautyful and odd own culture and traditions, and consume the alien, western (American-like, European-like) pop-rock-culture.

This song isn't Japanese, it's ryukyuan and is sung in the dialect. Ryukyuan are not technically Japanese (Yamato ethnic group) and where force assmilated into Japanese mainland culture. Ryukyu was it's own Kingdome and the Ryukyuan (who are still around) are their own ethnic group and own culture that is different from mainland Japan (even though they share similiarties). They also shared culture and langauge of the Chinese Ming and Qing dynasties, so therefore technically speaking the picture doesn't matter, as the racial group in question share both similarties from both china and Japan, even though they where seperate from both mainlands.

@@audioxix exactly , but I have to correct one thing , it’s not a dialect but our own language . Japan likes to say it is dialect but it’s not . And I can assure you that I speak the truth since I am myself from Okinawa , the largest island of Ryukyuu

@xshiromorix
@xshiromorix 4 жыл бұрын
In Japanese, "unari" (唸り) means "howl" or "moan" like the sound of an animal or the wind, but "unarigami" is something else. Unarigami are female guardian spirits in Okinawan culture, and the word comes from the Ryukyuan language.

Shazzam changahaii "Unarigami" means "Little sister's spiritual power". Ancient people around Okinawa believed a man's sister (especially, little sister) has special power that supernaturally guards her brother. This power was called "Unarigami". "Unari" means "little sister", and "kami" or "gami" means "god" or "divine power".

good for you, but there is no more sense of gratification from sharing that thought, the world has already gone to shit, glad to hear you appreciate good music, but if you simply said " great song" we would have understood that fact, your age is a mindstate, you are only as old as you think you are, the amount of years you have been alive shouldn't qualify as an argument to how much you have lived and how much you have learned.
