I love the Sicily idea. Another theater that I would love to see is the Spanish Civil War. The Republicans and Soviets had some nice high performance biplanes like the I-15, NI-52, and the Br.19. They could also get birds like the ANT-40. The nationalists could get planes like the BF-109 C-1, early Ju-87s, the CR.32, and the SM.79. I would love a very early 109. They could do a lot with the Spanish Civil War.

I am a Finn so I am quite biased but I think Finnish-Russian front might be interesting for others as well. Finland had kind a weird mix of planes including version of Brewster Buffalos, Morare-Sauniers, BF-109s, Blennheims and so on. Also Russian side had plenty of their own planes plus Air-cobras and other western planes.

The battle of France will be a gret idea with the D-520 and the Potez 631. But I think a battle of Kalkin Gol or the battle of China with early zeros and Ki-43 and even Ki-61.

I personally think they should just mesh cliffs of Dover into the great battles series with some tweaks and improvements. I also agree that the blitz into France and Sicily would be pretty awesome to have, neither of these battles get very much attention

Magz, as a longtime player of IL-2 and tester, I would like to add some things. First off, the expansion planes were indeed leaked at the Virpil conference, but IAmNotARobot (developer) later mentioned it on the Russian side of the IL-2 forums. You might not be excited for the Yak-9 because of how many we already have, but this is a plane the community has been asking for over the course of the last few years. Secondly, when it comes to development cycles, 1CGS has taken much longer with Bodenplatte. This is due to changing some things in the engine which they previously said would not be possible, such as: extending aircraft view distances. They also had to build many of the physics for turbosuperchargers, jets, and high speed physics. And even after the main development cycle of a game is complete, there is usually some down time where the collector aircraft are being made. We don't know when this will happen because of the additional updates for TC and FC1. Lastly, we don't know what the next expansion will be. If you take the Pacific out of the question, I recall Han saying he wanted to do Korea. Other than that, they are very secretive with what their plans are, and what they are currently working on. Although, I personally would love the Battle of France. I think it has some neat aircraft, and also it would add the possibility of adding some sections of the channel that can be reused in a later FC map.

I cannot express how much I would love a Korean War era Battle. Build on what they did with jet engines mixed with some interesting super props. But Sicily would make for some interesting aircraft.

Ive never seen a dedicated Korean War Sim since "Forgotten War" from the early 2000's Id love if IL2 did that. Not just thr Sabres and the MiGs like DCS. P51Ds, Corsairs, Sea Tempests, Fireflys, Yaks-9 and La-11s Tu-2, A-26 and the Late Meteors (etc.). They could even introduce the entire peninsula. Maybe I'm asking too much but a boy can dream.

I think there are good chances of the Pacific coming next. However if that isn't the case an Italian scenario would be my personal preference, another good feature of this theater to help future development for the Pacific is that it has carrier operations, with the British carriers operating Martlets, Seafires, etc

The Battle of France could potentially bring a large map that includes the low countries. So besides adding French aircraft, it might be possible to see some of the Fokker designs the Dutch Air Force used in the early war. While interesting, not sure if that would be likely.

Pacific Front! Loved it in 1946

If we're operating under the assumption that the PTO is after whatever comes next, then they might go CBI. There would be some limited naval stuff for them to practice on, but the CBI also spans literally the entirety of WWII. They could use it as a jumping off point for any era of the PTO in terms of aircraft and ground assets. Many of the allied aircraft that are already in the game would fit right into the CBI as well. The existing P-40, P-39, P-47, P-38, Spitfire, etc. would allow them to front-load the module with ready-to-go allied types so they can focus on the Japanese aircraft. Since carriers weren't involved in the CBI much, they can take their time developing carrier ops in the background while getting to grips with land-based variants of Japanese naval types as well.

I like the idea of early war campagains. I would love to see the very beggining of the war, flying P.11c, early 109s, the infamous PZL.37, early I-16 models, P.23s etc. That would be very unique setting for a game too, outside Il-2 1946 custom missions i dont think we ever got to fly in a setting like this.

Both periods you mentioned would be cool. One minor correction on the Sicily scenario though: I think the Italian heavy fighter could actually be the Do217 (we bought a few and used them as night fighters because we sucked at building twin engine fighters), and the bomber would likely be the SM.79.

As much as I would really love to bring in the Pacific theater as soon as possible, I could see an emphasis on D-Day, possibly going up to and through the Battle of the Bulge.

Pacific Theatre is the crowning achievement of this series from IL2. I don't really feel like we need anything more than that to have a well rounded platform. Apart from BoB and Africa but of course thats coming in Cliffs of Dover so.

The Siege Of Malta, with Gladiators, plenty of Italian aircraft, and a limited island area with plenty of sea around could make for an interesting expansion. Sicily would give more options for aviation however.

I don't think any B or C variant Mustangs were around at the time of Sicily, after some quick reading they only arrived to squadrons after the invasion of Italy so they kinda miss the mark there...People forget the B and C Mustangs were only in service for a short period of time before being completely replaced by D's. There were a lot of other classic USAAF aircraft though, early P-38's and late P-40's which I think would be quite nice to see. American A-20's (with glass and solid noses) and B-25's. Lets not forget that the USAAF were flying Bomber mission out of North Africa at the time with B-24's as well so that could be an interesting AI controlled aircraft. British with their Beaufighters tearing up the Axis Mediterranean shipping opposite the rather capable Italian high level torpedo bombers. Brits would possibly be flying early mark Mustangs powered by Allison's along side P-40's and I can't be sure but by the invasion of Sicily I think most Hurri's were out of service in the Med. MK. IX Spits were already in service at that point in the war with both British and American squadrons flying them so the G model 109's and FW's alongside the Italian hot props would have to keep their heads screwed on tight to keep on top of them. Its an interesting time in aviation history with a strange combination of Old and New all fighting together but overall except for the Italian aircraft most of the air frames would already be in game with different in different marks. Not that that is a bad thing but the variety isn't as great as you might expect. Going slightly earlier and looking at the DAF vs. Regia Aeronautica in Africa, I know CloD has a claim to the theatre but in reality most of the already small player base is playing IL-2BoX already so why not have it in game. It would potentially be a lot more interesting with the use of typically older air frames allowing for greater variation while still including the Italians and some of their more capable aircraft as it wasn't until 44+ that most of their "super props" came into service. It would also allow for maritime aircraft to make an appearance, Sunderlands for instance, and also a potential early tentative look at carrier operations with the British and American fleets operating in the area. I do like your idea of the Invasion of France and the lowlands idea though, lots of very unique air frames to go around, some of those French designs were absolutely fascinating along with some of those crazy Fokker designs out of the Netherlands...It also pays to remember that no Spits were ever *in* France at the time and weren't until after D-Day so unless you do some kinda Rise of Flight Channel map type deal with parts of the southern coast involved it wouldn't make sense. Anyway, just throwing ideas out there, I am sure the Devs already have a plan thought out and are doing their things, maybe they'll focus on their ww1 module for a while...who knows.

Was hoping for the Spitfire MkXVI, considering that Western Europe is the upcoming theatre... The Hurricane however will be a joy to fly I'm sure, although can't see it being much of a fair fight against late war German birds hahaha

I'm in no rush, but there's no need to venture into 1946 for my own wish...though it wouldn't be much use until some high altitude bombers are included: the Me163B (or A) Komet. I recently re-read Mano Ziegler's book 'Rocket Fighter,' detailing the first operational rocket squadron, so it's been on my mind lately. The Komet did appear in IL-2 1946 but would be amazing in the current sim.

The Spanish Civil War might be cool. Get some of the same early France vibes but have something of an international force, at least on the side of the Republicans. Another area that I don't think has ever really been explored in games, less a flight sim, would be the fighting over China. I don't really know all that much about it myself, or if there were enough planes to form a full pack, though. The Korean war would be interesting too. Not only would you have some early jets to play around with you might be able to fit in some of the early combat helicopters; though that role might be rather too limited.

Battle of Normandy is what I want. P-51-B, P-47D-25, Hawker Typhoon, B-26 Marauder, Me-410, FW-190-F8

Sicily, Battle of Malta or Operation Torch the invasion of North Africa would be a great new campaign and series that would all fit nicely together with a good mix of new aircraft to fly as well as taking advantage of the aircraft that are already in the game. I also agree an early French Campaign would be great as well. They really couldn't go wrong with any expansion as long as the maps look great and the added aircraft are correct. I definitely do not want to see them waste there time and energy with planes that were just prototypes and didn't really take part in aerial combat, if you want that play IL2 1946.

Probably in the minority here but I'd like to see Leningrad. Nice long campaign for the career mode, interesting topography, and can use early, mid, and late war aircraft which gives the devs the chance to knock out the last major gaps in the Eastern Front plane set: I-153, Tu-2, Il-4, Li-2, maybe early LaGG or Yak variants for the Soviets, and Hs-123, Fi-156, Bf-110F, Ju-87B, and Do-217 for the Germans. Not the mention the Finns of course!

Spanish Civil war, Sino-Japanese war, the winter war, battle of the Mediterranean (malta, Cyprus, crete, N Afrika, southern Italy), battle of the North sea (Norwich/Essex, Heligoland, Denmark, Norway), KOREAN WAR... because omg I want a twin mustang, and finally, the pacific... the thing about the pacific is that the area that it covers is so huge they would have to break it down into like 20 maps to have all the relevant battles.

I'd really like to see different models of the Ju-88. The night fighter version for example. Also more variants of the He-111, such as the H20. The rear static gun should also be implaced on the earlier models also. And last but of course not least, Do-217 Dornier should be added also. All of these aircraft were in activity throughout ww2. Improvements I'd like to see, Manual Fuel Tank selection Putting out flames Drop Tanks Option of Jettisoning Fuel Bomb selection, ex. Belly 1 x 1000 & 1 x 250, being able to release one or the other by choice rather than always the biggest bomb being released first. Hope this will start a Schwarm of interest and perhaps be a subject matter :-)

BOF 1940 is a very nice theatre of war. It came too short in the old Il-2. The Italy map in old Il-2 was very nice caused by the landscape. High mountains, green fields and the mediter. sea. I flew a lot of missions online on this map in several online wars. Maybe we will see a Monte Cassino map too? What I like to see is a channel map like CanonUK made it in old Il-2 as a mod. Early Focke Wulf, jabo raids, Spit IX, Operation Cerberus etc. This map is interesting between 1942-1944. One of my most favorit maps. I made the north sea map as a mod for old IL-2. It came into several mod packs and it was THE MAP for the B-17 fans, P47 fans and Mustang cowboys vs. Bf109, FW190 etc.. I spent a lot of time to make the airfield historical correct. I got mails from the UK, from the netherlands and from Germany. This map whould also work fine with se so called "Westfeldzug" 1940 when the germans went into the netherlands. I personally love the russian theatre but at the moment I need something different. The czech mapin old Il-2 was brilliant too. Very detailed and done with much love. S! If they want another Eastern Front battle there are 2 options. Battle of Leningrad; early war aircraft that where not in BoM and chance to work on navel forces more, Marat battleship. Battle of Bagration; for late war Russian aircraft and would round out the Eastern Front Battles. As for the rest of Europe, I agree with a Sicilian or Italian map. Battle of Malta with Sicily included in the map would be great focus campaign for the devs to cut their teeth on carrier gameplay. As for the pacific I’ll save that for another post as I’ve done a thesis in my head on that. I agree though Battle of Midway or in my head Battle of the Carriers 1942 would be a good place to start.

I'd love to see the Pacific or the Korean theatre! It's been such a long time since we've seen those in a real sim... Sure, DCS offers the Sabre and the 15bis but IMO they truly lack some content from this era. I want to fly a Panther over an adequate map and units :( Anyway, I'm already really happy with the current aircraft line-up and whatever comes next to IL-2 will surely catch my attention, as Sicily just did!

A France map would be really interesting. You could also include some of the aircraft that only really saw service early in the war, such as the Fairley Battle.

A modern Pacific Fighters would be amazing!

I'd like to see a future pack where I can fly all the major American planes. The Mustang, the Corsair, the Lightning, the Thunderbolt, and the Hellcat. The major German planes I think are great for this pack are the Focke-Wulf 190, the Bf 109, the Me 262, the Ta 152, and the Bf 109 Zwilling. The British would have the Spitfire 24, the Tempest, the Vampire, and the Meteor. The Russian planes would be the late Yaks, Las, and MiGs. The Japanese would have their A7M, Ki-84, and Ki-43-II. Maybe also there could be some heavy fighters from all sides and some bombers and attack aircraft. I'd like to see some U.S. torpedo bombers and attack aircraft. What would make me want to play this game? Seeing American planes in it that perform well. I'd fly them first, and then I'd stick around to fly the other stuff I like.

Before I even watch your prediction, I'm going to say we will get a general 42/43 Channel theme, I believe we will get a Mosquito , Hawker Typhoon and an earlier Mustang for the Germans we could see a Me 410 and Ju 88 C and the 190s that we don't already have. They may chuck one or 2 Russian planes in as bonus or 2 make up for shifting a little. Personally I would have preffered either Pacific or Korean War

I agree with the probability of your two projected IL-2 GB next direction episodes (battles of France and Sicily). However, I would like to throw in another dark horse contender: Russia 1944: Operation Bagration & and beyond, e.g. with new Soviet planes like the Yak-3, La-7, P-63, IL-10...

As a nonplayer I would think maybe the Spanish Civil War might be interesting.

Malta would be good, lots of italian stuff could be in that plus room to add sea planes, Coastal Command sub hunting in PBYs, Liberators and shooting things up in Beaufighters, Fleet Air Arm - Convoy protection, attacking taranto, going after the Bismark and Tirpitz.

I think one of the problems facing the developers at this point is the time frame / plane set. The have German aircraft for 41, 42, 43 and 45. If they did another battle set in 1043, then they have to get another complete German set of new aircraft for that year, OR as you said, use other Axis forces, Italy is the easiest. So my guess is it's 1943, Italy or 1944 anywhere (Normandy or Northern Italy). I do love the idea of 1940, but I think that is unlikely since the aircraft and the tanks are not as well known. Korea would also be great and the work on the jet engines in the 262 has given them some experience with this are of modeling (the flight model, not the mesh). So, I guess 1944 Northern Europe, or 195? Korea, but I will hope for 1940.

My vote would be the Pacific. 1C would make a lot of money for all the different aircraft possibilities that people would want like the Zero and F4U. Maybe A Guadacanal Map featuring carrier battles or Okinawa. Sicily would be great too. You already have Axis planes available to support it.

For battle of france you have all airplanes and map area in clod (even d.520 in making) so its hard to belive they would make it in GB

They should just jump into the Pacific, a whole host of scenarios and aircraft that haven’t been touched by bigboy flight sims in over a decade. Last one was, what, campaigns for IL2 1946? It’s so tragic the Zero doesn’t feature larger in sims, given how dominant and fascinating it was for its first few years in anger. They already have the P40 and I-16 to tussle with...

Battle of Sicily is far too late for it to be a flagship inclusion, but all I want are CR.42 Falco's back in IL-2, maybe as a collector plane like the Po-2? I'm probably only one of dozens that wishes for it though Although, if they're super stuck into late-war stuff, there's even a chance they could go for the early Korean War, would give them a single plane on a carrier in the F4U to flesh out carrier stuff without "having to be fair to the IJN" as getting info on a lot of the IJN stuff is pretty hard these days, introducing some things like La-7's and Il-10's while keeping things like Yak-9's, Yak-3's and even Po-2's to flesh the place out while keeping up with later aircraft such as the B-26 and some crossover with later model P-51's on the UN side, although, Korea is pretty plainly the forgotten war, so it'll forever be a pipe dream huh?

I’m going to be totally out there with my guess, because of wishful thinking. IL-2 Korea UN Aircraft: F-86 Sabre F-51D Mustang F-4U Corsair (carrier ops) F-80 Shooting Star Soviet Aircraft: Mig-15bis IL-10 Yak-9P Mig-9 (the PLAAF had these, but never sent them to Korea. Thought these would be better than an La-9 though, and could match against the F-80 or F-84) Collector Aircraft: F-84 ThunderJet (UN) La-11 (Soviet) Honorable mentions are the F-82 Twin Mustang, F9F Panther, B-26 Invader, RAAF Gloster Meteor, and the Sea Fury.

The hurricane is my favorite ww2 plane. Wish I had the chance to see it fly irl. Such a pretty bird.

Hope there´ll be an increase in cockpit fidelity of older models and PBR. The 190 Dora has introduced way better cockpit quality to the game than we were used to, it´s just ridiculous how bad other cockpits look even on some other BP planes like the LF Mk IX (black parts look like matte plastic) or the 109s (both have way too many obvious low poly parts)

To be honest, whatever it is, I'm going to buy into it at some point. My guess is its Flying Circuis vol.2. But outside of that, I have NO idea what it could be. I'd LOVE for it to be the PTO, but like you said, it's unlikely. So if it's not those two, I have no idea.

It's going to be the Pacific, and I don't agree with them not bringing Cliffs of Dover. They are already making everyone repay for Rise of Flight. So if they are doing that, then I don't see why they won't bring back Battle of Britain

I want to see a really large scale map that would make sense to be played in large bombers such as the Lancaster or the B17. Ideally set either during the Battle of Britain (city bombing raids) or during the battle of midway ( naval gameplay maybe even carriers) These would allow to expand on British and American aircraft. Because I swear if they do Poland or Finland or anything that involves Russia I’m gonna be so happy to buy another version of the bf109 and il2

Wait are you sure that that typhoons and P51s were used in Sicily? I didn't think the Tiffie made it to the Med and I thought that, in Mid 1943, the only 'Mustang' variant in the theater were the 'allison engine' version so the Mustang I 'army cooperation' as well as the A36 dive bomber.

Sicilly sounds cool, like that idea. But I am one of those weird Americans who loves the Eastern front and Finland especially, so I would love to see a Finnish expansion or a late war Eastern front one to round off 44/45 there.

If it was Blitz you could add polish PZL P.11s etc. I would love to see Spanish Civil War, early i-16, I-15, ME109B, and the CR32, for me this period is the mecca of dog-fighting as bi and mono planes punch it out with monoplanes coming out on top.

Over at the official forum there has been whole multi page threads on various ideas (some good, some not) of what expansion should come next if it ain't the PTO. Unfortunately many people seem to think what they want to be the same as what is likely or viable. I have a preference as to what theater I'd most like to see at some point in the future (Solomon Islands mid '43 to early '44) but I don't think it should be next as I feel there should be something that works with BoBP rather than leaving hanging out in the wind, in much the same way that the three eastern front expansions work in progression. So what I think should come next is BoN (Battle of Normandy). Long story short, it has the advantages of: - dovetails nicely with BoBP, both historically and with the career mode. - naval asset development that carries over to the future PTO. - aircraft set which spares dev resources, most aircraft being either already here/coming in BoBP or variations of those aircraft, but with some room to add new types if so wanted (e.g Typhoon or Mosquito FB.VI) which also work with BoBP. - great expansion opportunity for TC. Tank battles in the bocage!

first thing is first B-25 player controlled when? we saw it with the JU-52 so may as well give us this also as a collectors plane. second: more interesting collectors planes please, scrap the yaks we don't need anymore Hurricane is a good start will most likely be the modified one with the Shvak cannons if to guess. but will probably fall a little shorts in performance compared to everything else, will turn good though. third: I swear there was some talks about a "Battle of Midway" expansion which i think could add a change in scenery, that and i love carrier operations. would also follow suit with the original IL-2 Game with the pacific fighters expansion. would add in some pretty iconic aircraft like the A6M2 and or 3 the Wildcat which could have the 4 and 6 .50cal versions as modifications. Also got the Hellcat, Corsair, Val, Kate, SBD. The list goes on. The Devs have been going a great job so far and I'm looking forward to where they take this game next, I think they should have a poll at some point to ask the community what they would like for the next collectors planes give a list of 5 and we have to pick and the top 2 get put into development. If we don't get another expansion, i couldn't see them stopping adding more planes to the Great battle series.

It could either go back to earlier periods in WW2. I'd like to see some Mediterranean action like around North Africa and then going into Southern Italy a-la Catch 22, we'd get more British and Italian machines and some nice variations of US and German planes as you pointed out...or I could see go into Korea.

Finnish winter war/Continuation war would be good since I dont think its ever been covered before.

Pre and post Normandy campaigns could include razorback p47Ds (USAAF 9thTAC), p51B and Cs, and Typhoons as tank busters (RAF 2nd TAF). This will prelude Rheinland and Bottenplatte. In addition the strategic campaign of bombing Germany would include AI B17s, Lancasters and B24s, with flyable Me163s, Ta152s.....(and the proper employment of Me262s as bomber interceptors) This is called "The Defense of the Reich" as the final phase of the war in Europe.

I'd love to see earlier theaters - France, even Poland but this would require to include pretty forgotten planes for allied side which makes it nearly impossible to implement.

I always feel the air war over Singapore doesnt get enough attention, i realise it was horribly one sided. It would let them add some early war british/american aircraft along with some interesting japanese ones. Also an island with a significant ground battle involved so might play nice with tank crew.

If any of the next collector planes are Yaks I am going to be so upset. Even more so if they do a Yak 9 AND a Yak 9T when it could just be a modification. Give us the Mosquito, Spitfire Mk.XIV, Typhoon, or Me410. So many other relevant aircraft for Bodenplatte.

I just want a Finnish Brewster Buffalo vs. I-153. The Battle for the north atlantic could also be interesting with FW-200 and carrier launched hurricanes.

Sicily/Italy would be good for all the reasons you've listed. I'd like to see the Dornier 217 as well, that's been on my mind for a while. I do like your French campaign idea too. I've already said Bagration would be a good addition to Tank Warfare. Burma could be good if they want to practice some Japanese theatre without the water but that depends on how many of their own toes they'd tread on with regards to aircraft - I'm thinking Japanese ones here. Ki-43s/44s could be good here if they wanted to leave Zeros for the Pacific? I'd really like them to do Burma as a nod to all those people who fought there who are largely forgotten. also when you look at it you have Americans, British, Japanese, Chinese, Indians - which would include Pakistan then. Tank Warfare could be interesting with Stuarts and Lee/Grants, plus some Japanese tanks. Bunker busting could be interesting to allow your infantry to advance, that might be a mission thing though? I'd like Guadalcanal etc in the Pacific too. Treat the Pacific like they do Europe and go where fewer people tread. I don't mind them covering the popular areas as well but I'd really like them to show people the less well trodden theatres.

I would love for them to do something with Cold War jets in Korea, they've shown they know what to do when it comes to jet aircraft with the ME-262. Plus DCS needs competition.

Battle of France would be BOMB! I love early war stuff.

Something about the pacific maybe Battle Of Midway

Hey, before making the great move to Pacific Theater which would be amazing, I love the idea of Battle of France or Winter War Finland or even the Baltics which I believe would still provide enough interesting planes for both sides. I read somewhere about Normandy for some more late models but not sure where AXIS would come into play... As much as I want to see razorback versions of P-51 and P-47 among others (B-26?) ASAP, the only reason I would avoid MTO/Italy/Malta related expansions just yet is to leave room for Team Fusion to come out of North Africa assuming they are still viable? Admittedly, they seem to be taking a long time for 5.0 however so not sure if that should play a factor, but staying positive. It would be great if we had product coming out of both groups! What do we think?

What about the aleutian campaign? You have some the US aircraft already, will help developing the Japanese aircraft but without major carrier ops. Some great footage already filmed at the time on the air war
