This was pretty cool type of video, I know a lot of fans would love to see more of this type of content! For those who want something similar but don't have a wall to "sandwich" the table between, I actually made a similar sofa table but I had to find a way to attach it to the back so it wouldn't tip over. I ended up using conduit clamps that I bent out slightly and they hold the table to the couch without damaging the fabric. Then I just added leveling feet to the legs to hold it up. I also installed a recessed outlet flush to the table top so people can plug their phones in like you did here.

The look of joy when the jigsaw hole was a good fit sums it up perfectly - great job Meighan, and Bob your teaching style is great - let people learn by doing!

This one was really great! A couple of small comments, though. 1: When you were teaching Meighan how to change the angle of the saw's plate, I wish you'd told her to take the battery out of the saw before starting that as it could be hazardous if she accidentally turned the saw on while she was moving the plate around. (I was particularly worried when she did it while you were gone) 2: It might have been an idea to show her how to support the cut-off end of a piece of wood while cutting it to stop it from tearing out the bottom edge. 3: When screwing through the legs into the top, while it was sitting on her lovely floor, might be good to explain to double-check the length of the screws to ensure she's not fixing the whole thing to her floor! :) (I know all about this one - don't ask how). 4: The use of the reciprocating saw while fixing the hole made for the power plug - it would have been good to explain (to the audience) what was going on. It was during the ad-bit, but that could have been moved. It wasn't immediately understandable what she was doing as you'd discussed the use of the jig-saw at the beginning, but not the recip. A fantastic little project, though! Love that it was a really good entry-level project for anyone who might be interested in getting into handiwork, but not be confident to start on something larger!

Hello, I’m a woman and have taught myself to work on my Wrangler and now my home recently purchased. I found I love it. I am also a Commercial Truck Driver Long Haul OTR. I know what it feels like not knowing and having mostly no resources to reach out for help. Not even for muscle power. Had and have to rely on myself and KZfaq. Soo grateful for it. You two are very nice ppl, but , shame on him for not insisting to teach you about safety. I watched your entire video. Your idea is brilliant, btw. But honey you also made a statement that your comfortable and still being safe. Then turned around and didn’t apply any safeguards. Neither did he. You are in a position as an example to others being on KZfaq. There’s a certain amount of responsibility automatically applied due to this circumstance. And mostly for HIM. He’s the trainer/safety guy. He accepted this responsibility when he agreed and followed through to help and supervise then broadcast the work. Please please do not do these things anymore (soo dangerous!): 1) No eye protection 2) Hair not properly pulled back. Too loose and floppy. 3) loose clothes. 4) not wearing gloves (leather workman’s or cut proof) 5) not wearing a 3M mask or better. ( sanding and cutting wood has micro dust that will cause cancer) 6) Did he tell you to put your foot on your project while using a circular saw or jig saw?!?? And you did it?!?! 7) leaving you alone and you continued to work with very little experience. This was as big for me as all the others. 8) using plastic patio chairs as wooden horse stands. Those things are soo brittle and flimsy they break w/out notice. YOU WERE WEARING SHORTS AND FLIMSY TENNIS SHOES NO GLOVES EYEWEAR. That saw would eat you up if they collapsed. Freak accidents are lurking constantly for any tiny opening for opportunity to change your life forever. Complacency is huge too. NEVER be comfortable using those power tools. Please hear me I’m sorry but I couldn’t stay back and say nothing. Please don’t be offended. I wish you to always be safe. 👷🏻‍♀️

Sectionals are terrific, but they are BEHEMOTHS and putting a coffee table in front of them just makes them effectively more massive. LOVE the sofa table solution.

Love the whole concept Bob, it's exactly my philosophy. People always wonder were I got certain skills from, the answer is just by simply doing it. What I would add to it, is when things are new and daunting, just take your time, gain some information first about the tools you're gonna use. Asses the situation (on a realistic way!) and make like a plan with steps And most of all, DON'T be afraid to fail. Failing = learning! Another important note for the girls (and boys!) with long hair, please put it in a knot, it can get caught in the tools.

One of the things I deeply believe is that everyone is far more capable than they even realize. 10 years ago I was not particularly handy, but now I would definitely say that I am, in multiple areas. Every time something came up that I would normally pay someone else to do, I watched a few youtube videos and then tried it myself. 95% of those jobs I was able to do, and now I have all the tools and expertise I need to do just about anything I can imagine.

I do love this. It's easy enough to show the novice way, but to actually show I novice from time to time is invaluable.

I am always amazed at the things you do , Bob-- that said, most people don't have anywhere NEAR the kind of workshop you have, cool tools, C&C machines, etc. So for people like Megan and myself (I have the same kind of Adirondack chair sawhorses in my back yard) seeing a project like this done with simple tools feels WAY more approachable! I also have a sectional and a large living room and this has given me some ideas of how to rearrange (after we get the new tile in) Thanks for making a video for some of us woodworking noobs!

I made one of these last year to hold the sectional an equal distance from the wall (due to floorboard heater behind one corner). Was a great quick project!

Highly recommend those to anyone with little kids. My brother built one just like this for my nephew's picture books, when he was about 3. Kids are much more likely to reach for a book, it it's displayed in plain sight and with the front facing forward. My nephew is almost 7 now and loves books of all sorts and on his way, to become a voracious reader. Also love, that this is a simple, approachable project. I'm more likely to watch a video, if the project is done with basic tools/methods, because I'm more likely, to learn useful stuff that way.
