did anyone notice when the compere is describing or should i say praising in the introduction of Ilaiyaraja , ARR was clapping that is the spirit and his humility and humanity. I think after the late Mohammad Rafi saab , ARR is the only guy who no one hates instead everyone loves him not just for his art but mainly for his humility and humanity- who agrees with me?

Sometimes you need to feel for geniuses. Ilayaraja may or may not like Rahman's style of music and he has the right to like/dislike anything. Unfortunately, he cannot openly say that in public unlike us fans. He was invited to felicitate Rahman and, yes he spoke quite a bit about others but, he did praise Rahman's achievements. He may not have heard Rahman's compositions and so may not have been able to speak in detail about it. That's not wrong.

yes, a true legend that can coerce a mani ratnam or a ram go gopal varma to launch his career, when all others have to do studio rounds. no other human soul can dream of such a career launch. truly great and amazing. all through his career of some 100 odd films Rahman worked with the best of indian directors. when he gets an english film, its with none other than a danny boyle. truly amazing. what a coincidence?????????????

Ilayaraja is God of Music. We don't have right to judge his personal character, because we have never interacted with him personally. If you judge his character without having interacted with him personally or without working with him, then the problem is within you. Ilayaraja has put his total efforts to give best tunes and music to us. Billions of people enjoyed his music and enjoying now also. He created his own style, magic in music. No one did favour to him. He did favour to many artists, movies and persons in movie industry. His songs are entertaining billions of people. He worked with thousands of people and coordinated thousands of technicians and artists in his life. It is not an easy job. Respect his experience, talent and age. Ilayaraja is pride of our nation. We owe lot to Ilayaraja. Let us say Thank You to Ilayaraja. Let us listen to his music and enjoy his music.

Because, at the end of the day, its that one person beind the computer/keyboard who thinks of such music and creates it... In the Dubai show that ARR did many many years ago, Jave Jaffri raised this questions and ARR introduced his troupe to the crowd and the world... I believe he is the only MD to acknowledge all his musicians and give them proper credit... I dont think IR did it....

FYI, Forget about AR, even IR said it in an interview (Yes, I have seen it) which asked journalist's not to call it a Symphony. It is an Oratio performed by a Symphonic Orchestra. That's all.

Nothing wrong in being unhappy. Because there are many songs which AR Rahman composed is 1000 times better than Slumdog billionaire songs. Let us take his composing of Bombay, Roja, Thiruda Thiruda, etc. Those are far better than Slumdog millionaire and those are exceptional. Even today people are enjoying those songs. After 10 years from Oscar when i am commenting this, no one is hearing Slumdog millionaire songs :) It is not in people hearts. Just because one song won oscar doesnt mean it is enjoyed by people. By giving Oscar to Slumdog billionaire, it is proved that Oscar is not worth. Ilayaraja does not need to be unhappy. Oscar lost its respect. Not only Ilayaraja, there are so many French, Iranian, Korean movies which are so exceptional did not won oscar. You know Nayagan which is in list of top 100 movies in 20th Centure does not win Oscar. People understood about Oscar politics when it was given to Slumdog millionaire. If proper respect was not given to deserved artists, then that prize itself lost its respect. Thats y nowadays people are not looking much on Oscar awards and already Oscar is losing people's attention and in future it will go away.

Well.. I just gone thrugh this whole video... there is nothing wrong with what Ilayaraja says... when it is true that he didn't appreciate much... we should also think that he didn't say anything wrong... there are dozens of other musicians who were Talented but didnt have the international fame that AR has...and that's what he says... Rahman himself would be aware of this... Please rememmber that he was with Raja for such a long time and knew better than you and I...don't abuse Maestros plz

To all the folks trying to prove what they think is right (Like me :) ), it doesnt really matter whether the sound is digitized, or is made with computers and not with oure traditional instruments like IR did.... ARR serves not just one tyoe of audience... he needs to cater to variety of ears and public. He is no more limited to Tamil Nadu, He is not just national, he is global... First, an artist needs to make is mark.. how does he do that?

@beedag This is exactly what I was referring to.. Now you have a say on the Jury.. They are blokes... come on.. is that why they have been elected there... Agreed, ARR has better tracks, but then the song was fitting there.. Whether this is a point of contention or not, it is pretty clear that IRs fans will not stop saying that IRs songs are more worthy of Oscars than ARs.
