Keep in mind that the Democratic-Republicans weren't often called that at the time. They were usually just called Republicans. We call them Democratic-Republicans or Jeffersonian Republicans today mostly to help avoid confusion with the modern Republican party.

The term was often used for the “Democratic-Republican Societies” that were radical political organizations inspired by the Jacobin Club which supported the Jeffersonians, though they were called a lot of things by different people, as well as later on for Andrew Jackson’s faction of the party as opposed to Henry Clay’s “National Republicans” and John Randolph of Roanoke’s “Old Republicans” prior to its breaking apart.

I voted for a specific party in 2008 and 2012. And politically speaking it was my biggest regret. I wish we had the 2 party system explained to me like this in HS. They gaslit us into thinking " free this free" that was morally virtuous. And then I started working and paying taxes and lifted the veil. Suffice to say I left that party and will never look back. Hopefully one day we can all attend a baseball game again without wanting to molotov each other's homes.

I completely agree because in today's society the policies in the in country and continent's constantly being changed in order to fit one sertian group in order to make them happy and it's being done. On both political parties they're constantly twisting things around for their own political gain so if we all take a time to think about it both political parties are filled with lies claiming that they're going to fight for the rights of the citizens of this country and continent .

We need a multi-party system with more than two parties. Everyone's political views are far more nuanced now than they were in the past. There are many more issues, and if you look you can see definite 'groups' within each party we have today. We even have names for each group, but only one party. Other countries have three, four, or even more, political parties. Our two-party system has created political gridlock in the House and the Senate, a deep national divide, and devolved into finger-pointing and political name-calling.

I see your point, but having too many parties just keeps anything from being done. What we need isn't to get rid of the 2 parties, but for more moderates to go out and vote for members of their party who are likewise moderate. This will allow for the two parties to actually be able to compromise and make progress.

@@butbunsin9044 That is very true that having too many parties had a drastically negative outcome in some nations, I don't believe that would happen in the United States. With the separation of powers such as it is, I don't see how it would be possible for there to be a total dictator. The biggest problem with trying to implement a multi-party system from a two-party system would be getting voters to break away from their current party line. This could be more likely moving forward with progressively younger generations growing disillusioned with the current main parties. Doesn't mean it is likely to happen anytime soon, and what, exactly, the political landscape would look like I don't quite know; I know, however, that with the current divides within the Democrat party with far leftists (like the Justice Democrats and the "Squad") and the split between older and younger Republicans, it _is_ possible for at a three-party system, if not a four-party system. This is, of course, ignoring the so far stalled Liberaltarian and Green parties. The former of which is so fractured within its own ranks as to be useless, given the wide spread of beliefs and stances taken inside of the party, and the latter of the two garnering essentially 0 media attention. Of course, this is all just my own speculation and I admittedly need to research this topic further in order to be able to fully outline how I believe something like this could work, but on the face of it I would say that internal disagreements would, if ignored and unattended to, could lead to a split in one or both of the parties.

I am Black, Republican, and Conservative unabashed Christian like Reverand Martin Luther King. My father and I were in DC the weekend of the March on Washington, and saw the marchers but could not march because we had put blisters on our feet exploring Washington and Arlington National Cemetary to pay our respects as many did at the grave of Northern Democrat John Kennedy. Here, dad made the then popular point that America had gone into two world wars and took little more property than grounds to bury our dead and post the second war, bases to forward deploy if we had to come back. I was 8 years old and Arlington National seemed so big I was worried about the sun going down and running into the Klan who might be coming into town for the next day, dad explained a little about the hallowed ground, people who did not have to be in a fight they did not want and doing the tough but right thing, and he mentioned nearly 25% of those killed by the Klan were white who 'had problems' with the Klan and their gang-like influence and power. We weren't supposed to be there the next day because it could be dangerous but we were where we could see the crowd for a while and I was surprised all the people who were there and white, later estimates were that at least 20% of participants were white. Didn't have to be their fight, didn't have to risk all they did, but God put that option in all of us, I believe that was what Dad wanted me to see and figure out as less Christian attitudes increasingly took over the movement.

The only switch was that Republicans became pro-small government while the Democrats became pro-big government and three Democrats became Republican. So that way nobody else can form a party to go against the two. Might as well call them the Managerial Party because that is what they basically are.

The following is the script for a video I published Sep 23, 2014, titled: "Suffering Suffrage (What they don't want you to see)" House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and President Barack Obama, are vacationing on a private island somewhere in Bora Bora, when a bottle washes up on the shore. When they uncork the bottle, a genie appears and offers three wishes. One to each of them. The genie not being well versed on the "Rules of Etiquette" insists that Kevin have the first wish. After a moment of indecision, Kevin demands that all the members of both the House and Senate be made republican. The genie snaps his fingers, and Kevin suddenly finds himself standing on the floor of the House surrounded by nothing but fellow republicans. Nancy, in an act of self-preservation, insists that she is entitled to the inverse of Kevin’s wish. The genie snaps his fingers, and as with Kevin, Nancy finds herself on the House floor; every seat occupied by a like-minded Democrat. Barack immediately realizes the profound effects both Kevin and Nancy’s wishes would have on both the republican and democratic parties, should either wish be permitted; and vowed to have no part of it! Barack prayed that his, the third and final wish, be to rescind and deny both Nancy and Kevin’s wishes respectively. For the third and final time the genie snaps his fingers and reinstates the status quo. The genie is stupefied by Barack’s choice of wishes and asks him: Could it be that you are willing to endure gridlock, partisan name-calling and finger pointing rather than exploit an unfair advantage? Overwhelmed by what had almost happened, Barack hastily answered. ADVANTAGE? HECK NO! Without the other neither of us would have anyone to blame for the deplorable condition of the nation. The American people might wake up, stop arguing with one-another and see us both for the fear mongering parasites’ that we have become. I see no advantage in that! ---- Just think about it...

Also, some time in history there was a switch in political parties. Republicans used to be much more liberal than conservative, and Democrats used to be much more conservative than liberal. There are democratic elements to our elections, but it is not a pure democracy. Thank goodness. Our founding father’s biggest fear was a pure democracy for fear of majority or mob rule over the minority. The electoral college system is a system of checks and balances against a simple majority rule for federal offices. Lower level elections tend to have more elements of a pure democracy. Our nation most definitely is a constitutional republic, not a democracy.

I don't think it's accurate to say the New Deal is what caused the party switch in the South. The Democrats were untouchable in state and federal elections in the "Solid South" throughout all of FDR's terms. And the New Deal coalition was the height of Democratic power throughout the country since the Jacksonian era. A lot of poor white southerners, conservative as they were, were also hit hard by the great depression and were generally as supportive of FDR's reforms (which provided a lot of aid to struggling farmers) as urban workers were. And even the Republicans, like Alf Landon, were mostly pro-New Deal as well at that time. Because they knew as well as FDR (who didn't start out so left-leaning either) that an anti-union, austere, pro-business platform was unwinnable with most of the American people. They still couldn't compete with FDR, but it goes to show that the need for some significant degree of reform and intervention was practically a consensus at that time across party lines, and even their respective conservative/liberal factions. It was much more the 1960s during Johnson and the civil rights act/great society reforms that pushed the southern conservative wing away from the democrats and toward the republicans. First they just formed their own "State rights democrat" party in support of segregation, but then Nixon's southern strategy capitalized on this rupture in the democrats to get a foot hold in the south for the republican party. And then the increasingly influential evangelical religious right forged an alliance with the republicans and really won over the "bible belt" south (and rural white americans generally) during Reagan, while pushing away any remainder of the Republican liberal wing to the Democrats.
