Character Design is my favorite genre that got me into art, i'm sure it got a lot of us into art haha. I'll introduce you to the Character Design basics, giving advice what makes a strong iconic character. My goal is to give you the basic tools for you to start designing your Characters.

Ross Draws I wish I had created the Disney character of thomas and Duchess from The Aristocats. I loved how the old drawing skills and voice acting of the characters ☺️❤️ If I had to choose a human, Princess Tiana would be my pick 😎👍 She’s brave, head strong, and works hard to get to where she is. Seeing this process makes me realize that I really do want to be a character designer. I went to school for animation and I haven't done anything with my degree because I haven't been motivated to do so. But when I think of character designs, I always have fun with it and I just enjoy the process. I'm not very strong in character design, but I won't let it stop me~ even if I won't end up working for a company. I do want to work on these for myself and no one else

@@Z5Z5Z5 Hmm, well, not exactly. Drawing is nota fundamental when it comes to 3D modeling. It still requires some of the same fundamental knowledge regarding anatomy, blah blah, but 3D is a totally different construct than drawing. Drawing, which is stuck on a 2d plane, doesn’t require you to look at all angles on the same plane as does 3D, and 3D does not require you to know how to stylize an eye or drawing with precision when it comes to character design.

As someone who wants to go into the video game design industry, I can wholeheartedly agree that I like to over-stylize my characters. I add way too many things that seem unnecessary. Loved this video, I never really knew about the silhouette style of starting a character. The more you know. If I could have designed anyone it would have to be Ahri from league of legends. I like mythical creatures and her first concept character design gave her this soft look to her face but with the way her personality is you'd be dead instantly. :v It also has a somewhat Japanese shrine maiden design to her clothing which I absolutely love. Thanks for the guidance and tips, Professor Ross. x)

Hey man! I just want to let you know, the energy and optimism you display while teaching valuable stuff really makes the difference. I tend to put too much pressure on myself as I do art. I've been in such a rut of artist block and feeling bad about it. Over time I just kinda let it go on and the urge to come back to drawing got farther away with each passing moment. Coming back and watching videos like this makes me feel energized, excited and highly motivated to draw again! Such a cool body of work. Your style is always so great with a clear white canvas because the graphic style of brush strokes and shape language with the pop colours stands out so well on it. 3 concepts in different directions, 3 iterations on the best of the first three, 3 iterations on the best of the second three, one fleshed out concept pose, an array of action and effect exploration poses, and the final illustration render. A good pipeline guide for any artists to follow!
