Giving an old piece of furniture a new life is a really satisfying thing to do, repairing joinery created by a craftsman decades ago is a real compliment and sign of respect to the lost crafts and to that craftsman congratulations

Nice work, I like that you left the wear on the piece, thats its history which should never be lost, one suggestion is to put glass on the top to protect the map

I can understand the temptation to use the dolly as a skateboard! You stayed on it longer than I could have. You’re going to love having that laser. The map was an excellent way to showcase its capabilities. I love the finish on the desk. It enhances the wood grain without changing the color of the wood.

You're a master of your craft. I would've loved to see that map bigger, so it filled around 90% which would've been aesthetically more pleasing. At the same time, I think you should've used some sort of cover for that top piece. only because the map creates two issues: 1. it can get damaged from use and that is the "piece de resistance" that you want to preserve above all, and 2. You can't write over that desk because your pencil/pen will fall on every nook/cranny/crevice of that map, making it unusable as a desktop.

Beautiful restoration! Attention, from the felt you see this may have been a writing desk with a reversible insert. On a lot of these old desks you could flip the writing surface. One side bare wood, the other side was topped with thick cardboard and felt for better writing. Cheers! 😄

It turned out really nice! I think the drawer handles are upside down… but, I guess it’s a matter of personal preference. Always enjoy watching your videos!

Hello and thanks. I hadn't thought about it, it could have been a nice idea, the drawing of the world map on the skin. It would have been a little more complicated but it could have been done. It will be a starting point for future work

What a beautiful restoration of the desk body and a wonderous renovation of desktop insert. Soooo creative, skillful and complete as is your usual style. Wondering about grooves in maps rendering. Will there be a topper of plexiglass, glass or epoxy? Thank you for sharing, maestro.❤🎉😊

Hi imochiexe Thanks so much for the support. The top of the desk will be left with the small engravings visible. I gave it 6 coats of hard wax oil and the top is well protected. I also thought about doing a small casting of epoxy resin, but then I would have distorted the desk too much.
