This OVA scared me when I watched it for the first time, and I almost went crazy from the ambiguity around the story. Honestly, watching Attack on Titan before discovering what beyond the ocean is pure fun, when everything is mysterious.

Ilsa's notebook is my favourite episode of aot for this exact purpose! None of it makes sense the first time but once you know what you know...

People forget that the true aim of the scouts is to explore and find out about the world, including the Titans. This is very key if we want to understand the story and developments later on.

I mean, I knew the titan was inside of the actual wall since it was shadowed, and you couldn't see the sky behind it. It didn't even cross my mind that it could just be another colossal titan on the other side because the wall is way thicker than what it showed crumbling away.

What’s funny is Erwin makes a comment right before about there being titans in the walls, referring to humans who can become titans. And then we see that scene where there are LITERALLY titans in the walls 😂

Fun Facts: The opening "Feuerroter Pfeil und Bogen" was used because, chronologically, this chapter is located within the Battle in Trost Arc. Because the special chapter, Ilse's Notebook, is quite short, the OAD had to be lengthened, increasing a greater number of scenes that do not appear in the manga, among the main ones are: In the manga, Ilse's body was not found inside a tree. The titan that murdered Ilse was never seen again, while in the OAD he was killed by Levi. In the original version of the manga the only characters that appear are: Ilse, Hange and Levi. In the OAD a greater number of characters make their appearance, such as: Mike, Auruo and Petra. It is also discovered (or affirmed) that the titans do have intelligence and common sense, to the point of being able to speak politely (in this case to Ilse, confusing her with Ymir). In the OAD, Auruo's scarf (similar to Levi's) does not appear. It is implied that in the other episodes he uses it because Levi saved his life (as well as his expressions and attitude). In the OVA, the events of the exploration mission in which Ilse Langnar's body is found are set in the year 850. However, in the Attack on Titan Guide, these events are placed one year earlier, in the year 849.

Maybe it's just me being a little too empathetic and sensitive..but when I watched this OVA..I put myself in Isle's shoes..the terror she must have felt as she ran all alone, no weapon, no horse..nobody...Just writing in hopes she might reach the walls and if she dies, her notes would be useful...down to the last breath, she did it. Her bravery, terror, resilience all made me tear up a little

the wall is WAY thicker than the layer of wall you can see around the titans face. if it was peeking through it would look like it was peeking through a tunnel not just a hole

I would recomand for you guys to start season 2 here in the days you usually drop on youtube and ad a day to drop the ovas alongside season2 because we can't wait and it's gonna take alot if you go with this pace

You guys are not the first to interpret the titan being outside the wall, don't worry, it's really easy to. But when you think about it, it makes much more sense, the wall is thick enough so people can stand and build things above it, so it must be multilayered, and Annie broke just one side of it, so .... (I don't remember if I did though, a really long, long time ago, like 11 years lmao)
